Deophobic Necrosis – Persecution (2016)

  • Death metal
  • Brutal metal
  • Grindcore
  • Goregrind
  • Crust punk

Comment: it is nice to be back again at Torn Flesh. Predominantly does it mean to experience something brutal and aggressive. The human being as a species is violent and for me as a fucking human being it is very suitable to float in a soup of death metal, grindcore, and crust punk (with verbal hints at killing, atrocities and other adverse things). Supposedly aggressiveness is closely related to the development of intelligence so for Western European people there is no chance to get survived while being exposed to the so-called soft values. With regard to it for almost every day we are exposed to bloody news about the collapse of Russia soon but such sort of news are profoundly fake. Do you believe in the collapse of a country who owns a huge territory with a fathomable amount of resources, whose population is high-spirited due to their religion and who don't give a heck to weird and weakening and frequently contrary impulses coming out of the Western side, and who own the optimal amount of aggressiveness to survive and develop further. That's called the evolution. The point of mine is that the Western world used to undermine itself from inside and through uncontrollable migration (which is caused by those who are elected by us due to wars being induced to get entrance to new resource fields. As you see it is a fucked-up closed circle). Actually Deophobic Necrosis hints at the conflict between Christians and Muslims thoughout the 16-track outing. Yeah, Deophobic Necrosis provides a vital and uncompromising whiff of energy which is needed to get out of a pink dream. You can also listen to it as an alleviating remedy to the closed circle hinted above.

Shea Bilè – Tzimtzum (2016)

  • Neoclassical
  • Spoken word
  • Hip-hop
  • Rap
  • Darkwave
  • Crossover
  • Neofolk
  • Apocalyptic folk

Comment: undoubtedly this 7-track issue is one of the most peculiar ones I have encountered within recent months. Given that the issue comes out of the imprint Torn Flesh Records hip-hop as a partial way to create music was a quite huge surprise. In truth, Shea Bilè represents his cryptic, diabolical yet somehow lofty lyrics by rapping and chanting intermittently. At times his side is accompanied by operatic female singing. The rest part of the formula is more conventional if it could be possible to say in this way – neoclassical ornaments and darkwave-esque carvings are up there to veil the whole with the more murky curtain. By listening to it one should admit that a human being is the biggest enemy to herself/himself. One searches for redemption to get rid of nothing. Yeah, it is our obligation to create values and comply our duties but there is a danger to get overstretched for the sake of Nothing.

Angry Norwegian – Avant-Gardener (2017)

  • Sampledelic
  • Avant-metal
  • Grindcore
  • Hardcore
  • Electronic
  • Cybergrind

Comment: Ross, and Lane from Hell, Michigan, USA do create an explosive mix of metal and hardcore punk and heavy sampling. More profoundly, the plot of this 7-minute issue is quite simple – most of the tracks are started off either by witty spoken word snippets or electronic introductions and thereafter followed by heavy noodling on the guitars. For sure, the duo provides no rest-up with such hellish sort of skronks. It's all about outright power, angriness, cynicism and sarcasm. And presented by a healthy dose of misanthropy. It can be assumed those feelings are controlled by the artistry. I am convinced the duo's purpose is not to provide a singular sonic pattern but influence the audience with an overwhelming barrage of squalling changes and twitchy disturbance within the contrast-enriched buildup. It's a sort of stimulant. The 8-track issue is the duo's one of the earliest releases being released under the umbrella of Torn Flesh Records. From Hell, honestly?

Blasphemation – An Oath of Total Allegiance to the Black God (2017)

  • Black metal
  • Extreme metal
  • Brutal metal
  • Black noise
  • Radiophonic art
  • Sludge metal
  • Goregrind
  • Crossover

Comment: today is the first advent of the year of 2017 so because of that this set of 4 tracks can be considered an act of blasphemy. Although my deed is not an act of blasphemy because I do not consider Jesus as a deity. But I like Jesus as a righteous and rebellious person who attacked some obsolete principles for the sake of more people. Jesus can be considered an outstanding person among the likes of Plato, and Aristotle who are being the highest masterminds in the history of mankind. God by itself should not be described as white or black because given that adjectives cannot be accredited to God in a strict sense because it comes out from the realm of mankind to evaluate something. In an indirect sense, God can be considered as white and good because of creative processes. Musically it is an intriguing stuff due to starting off with a brutal and growling attack within the pigeonhole of mixed black metal/goregrind and after that stark rage it is going to happen. Sorcerer's Sight is a disrupted black noise example with lines and slots coming out from a parallel universe. It is mad and it is desperate where the notes are not resolved and it is like a painful drift through the layer of tortured souls. Stomped Into a Sludge is a hard rock with multiple layers as if all of them being played at the same time. Today the phenomenon is called sludge metal. The apotheosis of the release comes eventually in the final part, at the self-titled composition being a mixture of black noise, radiophonic art and something unidentified additionally. Sounds from a short wave radio are tightly mixed up with snippets and loops from speeches. So it can be said eventually it is a bipolar outing not only with regard to the opposition between brutal metal and black noise but inside the genres as well. Impressive outing from the slot of Torn Flesh Records.

The Last March of the Ents – Rotting Forevermore (2017)

  • Screamo
  • Brutal metal
  • Hardcore
  • Stoner rock
  • Crossover
  • Doom

Comment: The Last March of the Ents, a trio from Phoenix, Arizona, US provides a couple of tracks which can be considered very suitable for an intense mosh worship. Screamo, stoner, doom, and hardcore will get channelized into a powerful whole. In fact, Hollowed Out has been managed to add more atmospheric guitars to the mix thereby chiming like a stoned blackgaze combo. The issue is a pat of the discography of Torn Flesh Records.

girlsNames – Energy For Genocide (2014)

  • Cybergrind
  • Grindcore
  • DIY
  • Lo-fi
  • Death metal
  • Trash metal
  • Brutal metal

Comment: The Toronto, Ontario,Canada-based girlsNames` 11-track issue is a proper issue of grindcore-related music because of having the end at a 11-minute. Indeed, it is an example of grindcore and involving also death metal and trash metal elements though flirting with rusty electronic sounds and rigid programmed drums shamelessly. And those spoken word samples are to provide more creepy atmosphere to the mix and female voices to add unconventionally angriness to the melting pot. At times those samples are to predominate over slightly deformed song structures and broken volume stability as if the artist does give a heck. However, if either this point is the case or not it is not important though because such a sort of attitude is somehow appealing with regard to this style and approach. Let`s call it lo-fi/DIY grindcore. Bedroom grind? Party Up A Red Cup is an example of deranged madness and that makes really sense. At Bandcamp there represented about 40 albums by the artist. The issue is a part of the discography of Torn Flesh Records.

Testicular Seizure – Sinister Gore (2009)

  • Goregrind
  • Death metal
  • Dark electro
  • Brutal metal

Comment: This 6-track issue makes me feel psyched because the US-based trio entitled as Testicular Seizure bombards us with death metal and goregrind liquids, by executing it in a very intense, obtuse and loud way. By stylistic characteristics, it is slightly slowed down and at times this massive sonic waterfall being conjured up with low bass thudding, frantic drumming and visceral, rotten vocals are jettisoned to replace it with angular dark electro and electronic music (for instance, Middle Intro, and the final part of Fuck Up the Pedophile). Frequently the issue chimes like a couple of tracks would have replayed at the same time. It makes difference undoubtedly even in the goregrind and death metal scene and within the discography of Torn Flesh Records. Of course, given that you are intended not to horrify your kids do not play it for them. It is an uncompromising protest against a part of bad things related to the humankind.

Dire Calamity – EP (2009)

  • EBM
  • Cybermetal
  • Darkwave
  • Industrial electro
  • Synth industrial

Comment: there are represented 6 compositions with the total length of 9 minutes only. The issue is a part of the catalogue of Torn Flesh, which could mean something sombre and ill-omened. Indeed, all the formal appearances of it hint at it and dredge pessimism and misanthropy in one’s decayed soul. Musically it drifts between electronic metal, industrial electro/synth industrial and electronic body music. Those rhythms being appeared within it are not aggressive directly but ominous due to darkened atmospheric electronic keyboards and synthesised orchestrations. Behind Dire Calamity hides himself Joshua Ramirez from a death metal/grindcore band called Testicular Seizure.

The Day Of Extinction – Mutually Assured Destruction (2010)

  • Black metal
  • Symphonic black metal
  • Trash metal
  • Funeral metal

Comment: First of all, by seeing the title of this 3-track issue the first thought of mine was it was either a case of blackened metal or goregrind because having hints at misanthropy and destruction. Indeed, the opening track Black Sunrise in the mp3 player of mine is based on the fast churning of instruments supported by massive symphonic synthesisers and hissing feedback. The base used to be appealingly iterative just providing one loop from start to finish. It could be said it transcends its stylistic borders in an elegant way. The following track is In Loving Memory... where the tempo is decelerated and accelerated in different layers at the same time. Furthermore, later on, the composition will be adorned with bold yet slowed-down piano chords and an exquisite orchestrated whiff. The final piece is the self-titled one similarly to the first track being fast running yet demonstrating some tones lowered downward and on the other side there are up massively bumpy riffs and ridges thereby coming into trash metal altogether. In a word, it is a fabulous issue by any metal and conceptual standards.

Artifact of Skulls - Artifact of Skulls - I (2016)

  • Speed metal
  • Death metal
  • Hardcore
  • Crust punk

Comment: Oh yeah, it's great delight to listen to such a sort of metal music wherein exuberant, dark hued energy through the interplay of bumpy guitars and bass and jolting drums will result in pummelling against your bourgeois mentality to get it out of your rotten, decayed head. Stylistically it is an amusing blend of death metal, crust punk, and speed metal. The more you listen to this bunch of five tracks the more you could perceive it like it was thought to be a tribute to deceased Lemmy Kilmister. The more you listen to it the more it seems to be spatially appealing in addition to some groovy elements. With regard to Lemmy the issue chimes like a Hawkwind without synthesisers. On the other side, it is very sympathetic to see the minimal aesthetic of the combo (the track titles are denoted with the Rome numbers only; the cover print is depicted as black-white). The issue is a part of the discography of Torn Flesh Records. Great and purging work for sure.

Unicorn Hole – Some Songs (2014)

  • Cybergrind
  • Electro-metal
  • Midicore
  • Harsh metal
  • Electronic
  • Ambient

Comment: this album could be called as a conceptual one as for progressive rock because of surfacing compositions with the same names though differing with regard to have the different parts within the 8-track course. On the other side, the first seven tracks all do have the same length – just one minute to run. Musically it is not progressive rock though rather being mechanically produced metal music being internally tagged as midicore. Indeed, it draws on machine-alike rhythms, anxiety loaded vocals, and electronic harmonic above the rhythms which in total could a little remind of chiptune/8-bit/tracker music. However, the ending composition You Could Have A Leg In One Hand And A Brerb In The Other is the case to turn all upside down – it is a fairly blissful glimpse by conjuring up the pictures from ambient music which could have some similarities with a late period Talk Talk, and some compositions of Durutti Column, for instance. The issue is a solid joint effort under such prolific and established labels as Torn Flesh Records and Kitty On Fire.

Land Of Grim – Welcome (2011)

/Rhythmic noise, Experimentalism, Art music, Electronic music, Post-industrial, Avant-garde, Noise, Drone/

Comment: Torn Flesh Records is mostly known as an imprint for extreme metal/hardcore punk music though there are up some exceptions in the label`s discography. For instance, take on this 5-track issue of 34 minutes. The central track is Select The Victim which embraces 13 minutes to bring forth truly peculiar rhythmic sounds and pulsating electronics in the background as if being influenced partly by art music/Klang music. In fact, the experience is amplified by the following piece Pave The Path. Embrace The Grim chimes like an instance of deep house music produced by the noise musician. It does mean he does not give a fuck to his own principles. However, the other compositions are remarkably more brown noise fuelled, providing obscure synthesised drones with pervasive ominous glimmer and more angular rhythmic frequencies because at times there is no chance to describe it as the rhythmic ones. One could discern them barely as pulsations coming out from the nexus. In a word, Nikolai Gawin`s issue is an impressive insight into a world of uncompromised sounds and attitude.

elephantknuckle - When the Screaming Stops, the Madness Begins... (2009)

/Grindcore, Electronic, Crossover, Deathcore, Goregrind/

Comment: it is a frantic mixture of heavy-weighted, metal-oriented styles though electronic music does have a noticeable impact on it. It is intense and sultry, providing dodges and hooks in different directions through speech and situation-indicative samples, manipulations of the radio dial, and sinister moaning and electronically loaded rhythms. At times it is calmed down though not being more rational the least bit. For instance, listen to Simple Simon, the first half of it consists of the screaming of a woman, the noise of a chainsaw, uncanny buried singing thereby conjuring a fairly weird, threatening sense which is very comparable with the most straightforward, slamming moments within it. Axis I - Dissociative Fugue starts off with pagan-alike whiffs of a flute which later will be amended with drilling electronic rhythms and riffs of synth-guitars. In a word, the result is truly thought-provoking.

Angry Norwegian - Grind Is the New Black (2015)

/Grindcore, Hardcore, Sampledelic/

Comment: who is an angry Norwegian? Anders Breivik? Varg Vikernes? Someone else? In fact, this is the duo of Lane, and Ross from Michigan, USA whose 7-track issue is a hellish blend of burning guitar noodling, disorienting speech samples and tumultuous drumming over the mix. As a proper grindcore album used to be it is produced in the way to be properly tight having no gaps and all the air around it is burned off. Most of the tracks are at a length of 1 minute. Only Endohkneesha which is the hidden track on it has a length of almost 5 minutes (the Bandcamp version of the album does not contain it at all). In a word, let`s get this album and enjoy the slab of Vitamin G(rindcore) and H(ardcore).

Enbilulugugal - The End Is Extremely Fucking Nigh (2014)

/Black metal, Noise, Brutal metal, Doom noise, Hardcore punk, Leftfield, Noisecore/

Comment: I have always liked the coverprints of black metal, goregrind (and its subgenres) albums especially those ones of depicting dead livings and monsters. The recent one is impressive no exceptions – more concretely, the mutant comes out of a slot of the fallout shelter to apparently destroy slick politicians who arranged this bullshit. However, the most important issue related to the musical groups is their music. Enbilulugugal`s 9-track issue consists of brutal noise, doom, blackened metal and even some hardcore/crunk/noise punk woven sonic threads full of powerful energy, sweeping torrents of scream from the cancerous throat shred. On the other side, the artist`s aesthetics does not rely on chaotic improvised nexus but it seems to be thoroughly thought over to create more channelized and impressive attacks of sound. The album is finished off by The Bright Side, a cover version of the Poor Bastards` track with the same name. Especially recommended for listening before falling asleep. The issue is a part of the discography of a fabulous imprint, Torn Flesh Records.

Satanic Erynn Boe 666 – Final Boss Fight (2013)

/Noise, Avant-hop, Leftfield, Rap, Urban music, Experimental hop/

Comment: Satanic Erynn Boe`s purpose is not provide compositions of being long-running in duration. There are up tracks of approximately 2 minute in length. The artist`s music is a desperate kind of hip-hop music replete with loud, reverberating chanting in the forefront which in turn is accomplished with noisy layers and aggressive rhythms. Because of its crystal-clear experimental and clattery nature SEB666 chimes like a twin brother to Death Grips and Dälek. Penetrating and assaultive.

Beastplague – Beastplague (2014)

  • Brutal metal
  • Grindcore
  • Extreme metal
  • Powerviolence
  • Hardcore punk
Comment: one of the most significant and prolific extreme metal platforms worldwide Torn Flesh Records provides an extremely short-running issue of 10 tracks produced by Beastplague. The longest track exceeds a little bit at 1 minute, the shortest one finishes off at 29 seconds. Nevertheless these total 8 minutes are highly intense imbued with heavily bashing drum series and cascades, outstretched bare-faced angriness in vocal layers and boosting guitar noodling. Stylistically Beastplague`s album has its place somewhere between hardcore punk, powerviolence, and grindcore. Moreover, the titles are pointing and meaningful – Ruined, Castration, No Future, No Past, An Evolution Of Violence, Glorified Rottendom. The coverprint is also great - is it Robert Smith with the mummy?
