The Love Songs – Live in Dresden (2008)
/Drone, Experimental,
Avant-garde, Minimal, Live session/
Comment: The Love Songs
is the one-man-orchestra of Sven Swift, a netaudio enthusiast and
promoter from Germany. This 25-minute live was performed at the DIY 2.0
festival in Dresden replete with droning spans, crucial changes and accelerated
ja decelerated effects superimposed on the sustained lengthy chords. The issue
starts off with introduction to the gig venue filled with the crowd`s speaking
and the alarms of a police car coming out of the street. It will soon be
replaced by Swift`s performance to the defeating ending.

Zero a m m 0 - Temporary Shades Of Gray (2007)
/Post-rock, Avant-rock, Crossover,
Modern classical, Spoken word, Electro-acoustic, Chamber music, Art rock,
Experimental rock, Ambient/
Comment: Zero a m m 0 is
a combo (Mathieu Graveline, Benoit Panneton) from Montréal, Quebec, Canada
showing up a distinct sound exploration being so characteristic for the section
of Montrèal based music collectives mainly related to Constellation
Records. Indeed, the duo exploits
post-rock layers and nowadays sonic manipulation devices to design their sound.
More concretely, those guitar based currents are channelized through the algorithm
of reverse effect, chord loops, pitch bending and on the other side varicoloured
with spoken word snippets and piano keys ranging from stomping to volatile
ones. Because all of this this batch of 3 tracks can be considered as a
transitional one trudging into the electro-acoustic, ambient and modern
classical music territory. Furthermore, there is distinctly represented also
interplay between sound and silence, between sonorous de-escalation and growing
louder into elemental, noisy peaks. The result is enjoyably consistent and
worth of any bit of it.

Darwin Raymond - Beyond The Shore, The Sea (2012)
9.6
/Ambient, Dark ambient, Abstract electronica, Ambient drone, Experimental electronica, Guitar ambient, Organic electronica, Soundscapes, Minimalism/
Comment: Darwin Raymond is a guitarist/producer from Columbus, Ohio, USA who has issued 4 albums on Bandcamp and different labels (Audio Gourmet, FeedbackLoop, Resting Bell). However, his current issue of 9 compositions is inspired by the ocean and all of that pertaining to it. The soundscape used to base on tight guitar works which in turn are channelized through the filters thereby getting a result full of brooding magic, thudding bass glimpses and flashing visions. It sounds like an abstract painting created on the base of minimal sounds and fluttering oscillations. However, inspite of its minimalism it is highly evocative and mesmeric. In a word, it is an instance of still life thereby can be likened to the likes of Pan American, and Loscil. On the ball. By any means.

Saito Koji - Again (2012)
9.6
/Avant-garde, Guitar ambient, Space rock, Experimentalism, Post-rock, Ambient noise, Epic, Shoegaze, Ambient drone, Drone, Soundscapes, Minimalism/
Comment: the japanese experimentalist Saito Koji`s 8-faceted universe does formally rotate around guitars, though, at times these chords are more treated, at times slightly less. It veers away from knee-deep ambient and essential minimalism to freely strumming shoegaze shades and majestic space rock references. More profoundly, it is built upon slowly changing phases, delusive undulation and barely audible turbulences on the ground which in turn will evoke suggestive shades somewhere in a lush sonic bowery. Hopefully I am not the only one who can perceive how the ground stepwisely does subside underneath the feet now and then. Inspite of being quite laconic in his expression Saito`s touch is thoroughly emotive and cathartic. Less is more, as we used to know very well. But do not call it a sort of chill music, though. If I had my own country I probably would choose a track, Sunset, for instance, to be the anthem of the country. I guess Neil Halstead, and Kevin Shield would be proud of it if it would have been produced by themselves. I recommend to listen to his other issues on Resting Bell and other sites as well.

Ryonkt - The World That Was Surrounded By A Deep Forest And Warm Light (2008)
/Space rock, Dream pop, Ambient, Crossover, Minimalism, Space folk/
Comment: Ryo Nakata aka Ryonkt is a Japanese musician who provides a 4-track issue. It involves the aspects of minimal ambient, spacious rock/folk, and bottomless dream pop (at least the lonesome chords or doleful, lingering riffs played on a guitar and amplified with the applications of digital sound processing). And of course, it is minimally structured and played on repetitive elements which in turn will be complemented with new yet almost invisible bits - less is more. In any cases, there is enough room between the margins of chords to unleash your dreams and positive feelings.

Oskar Hallbert - Promenader & Utflykter (2011)
Resting Bell
9.2
9.2
/Dream folk, Avant-folk, Musique concrète, Drone folk, Organic electronica, Microtonal, Experimental folk/
Comment: Oskar Hallbert is a Swedish musican who allegedly lives in the middle of the forest massives somewhere in the countryside (at least it was a preterit legend about him). However, Hallbert continues the similar path he used to exploit on his previous releases on Resting Bell, Rain, and Zymogen. More profoundly, here are represented little, restraint miniature compositions consisting of some lofty drones, sparse string fingerpicking, mellotron`s vibraphone glimpses which are effortlessly penetrating through thick mist-and-natural sound blend. It may be these elusive and otherworldly vibes are made by fairy creatures.

Saito Koji - Luck (2011)
9.5
/Ambient, Ambient drone, Shoegazetronica, Microtonal, Minimalism, Experimental electronica, Guitar ambient/
Comment: 3-track album by a Japanese experimental musician, Saito Koji, which used to murmur in a minimal yet highly emotive way. Light-hearted synth droning is laced with deluging organic touch and chirpy guitar-based soothing. Fundamental repetitions, more or less elliptically shaped rhythm patterns-loops, beatific reflet exemplified permanently therein are up to standard. Moreover, the issue seems to be the kind of grower. However, if the ending track were speeded up twice as much, it would have chimed as a hallmark of shoegaze music, in principle. In fact, it applies to the other tracks and recent moment either. It sticks out like a warped version of Slowdive`s sound, yet, having existence of full value on its own. A mesmerizing phenomenon indeed.

Spheruleus - Forgotten Outland (2011)
Resting Bell
9.2
9.2
/Ambient, Drone folk, Dream folk, Minimal, Found sound, Field Recording, Sound-art/
Comment: By having the course on slowly rolling and progressing snippets, behind those subtly manipulated sounds dedicated to the wastelands in your soul is the British grand master Harry Towell (also known as Audio Gourmet, and Eyes Flutter Beneath) who has released over 15 issues (under such labels as Earth Mantra, Test Tube, Audio Gourmet, Under The Spire) in a last few years. This is a case based on three tracks where atmospheric sounds are mixed up with contemplative string chords, slightly heardable found sound-relied cracks, subsequently, all those parts are wrapped up in intimate synergy. Especially mesmerizing is listen to it while the sun goes down. Very often this otherworldly concept of drone-folk-ish enterprise resembles of the French legends Natural Snow Buildings.

brunk - Winter EP (2009)
/Ambient, Ambient rock, Post-rock, Musique concrete, Found sound, Epic, Experimental rock, Experimentalism, Microtonal/
Comment: brunk is Bert Vanden Berghe, a DIY homerecording musician and sound artist from Ghent, Flanders, Belgium. Besides involving in various less and more pop-induced groups, however, by his solo enterprises he is known as noisenik (Passive Cable Theory) and as improvisational artist (invertebrata) and as cutting edge musician (brunk) either. However, this release being issued for Resting Bell in the second half of 2009 reflects upon his desires toward more atmospherical point of view (ambient folk/ambient rock/spherical angles-edges of post-rock, concrete sound-infused epic bars). Moreover, those stretched guitar chords which can be found from here at times do evoke similar perceptions to the Labradford, or microtonal, otherworldly pulsating overgrowths into the kind of still life are getting very close to Pan American. All in all, it is a powerful 4-track miracle indeed.

Moji Moji N (Resting Bell)
N is the second release by Lucas Page, a Buenos Aires-born musician, mainly inspired by magnificent looks upon the landscapes of his homeland. 5 instrumental tracks do include sensitively loaded (slide) guitar workouts, keyboard-illustrated shades and effects, vibraphone-alike cinematic chords, rigidly stomping drums and some distinctive musique concrete additions, all in all, reflecting the snowy peaks and abysmal lakes in Patagonia. Indeed, the different paces, accents and milieus can be detected here for to have the organic sense of epic responsibility via a kind of post-rock-ish manifesto. In a nutshell, if you like the works by God Is An Astronaut or the ripples by Mice Parade, no doubt, lots of satisfying minutiae can be found from here.

Oskar Hallbert doodling (Resting Bell)
