Goodmorning Breakfast – Hello Monday (2010)

  • Psychedelic rock
  • Jangle pop
  • Alternative dance
  • Britpop
  • Northern soul
  • Baggy
  • Indie dance

Comment: Goodmorning Breakfast is a project from West Java, Indonesia being influenced by such acts like Oasis, and Suede by their own words. However, by listening to their 3-track issue it chirps even more interesting and reminding more of an epoch in the end of the 80s and in the beginning of the 90s where indie music did have many appearing forms while searching for more reliable manifestations. More profoundly, Goodmorning Breakfast`s Hello Monday chimes like a jangle act being organically imbued with psychedelic pop, northern soul and baggy/indie dance influences (in general, by post-punk influences). It reminds of an era after the C86 compilation when many light-hearted jangle acts changed into more dance-appealed and artsy ones (for instance, Soup Dragons, The Pastels, McCarthy). However, despite these parallels the artist is not a simulacrum to rehash the glorious past, it is worthy on its own. The issue is a part of StoneAge Records.

Etza Meisyara – Collapse (2010)

/Dream pop, Indie pop, Alternative pop, Lo-fi, DIY/

Comment: Etza Meisyara is a female indie popster from Indonesia whose track called Collapse takes the listener to a journey of soothing acoustic guitar chords and chopped-up rhythms and dreamy vowels on the top.  All of that used to result in the sublime harmony. The outing is a little bit clumsy, with an apparent angle of lo-fi aesthetic however, it is an intriguing issue from a region of Southeast Asia where producing indie music is being very popular amongst the youngsters for the last years. I can remember for such a site as SEA Indie (at the moment it is suspended though) which issued solid alternative pop music. The single is a part of the discography of StoneAge Records.

: just one EP, just 6 tracks spreading out over 11 minutes. This EP is thought for you oi! punks, for you hardcore punks, but also for post-punks/alternative rock fans (frequently these notches used to remind of Elastica, especially Dancing Song with dense electro vibes and electronic-charged effects - the track is performed live). Generally, the EP provides disillusioned sort of vision played with the assistance of demented guitars, angered drum sequences and (half-)shrieking female vocal line chiming as convincing as a lush, old school-ish undertaking. The collective comes out from Jakarta, Indonesia. The collective is compared with such artists as Bikini Kill, Even Worse, and Dara Puspita! Indeed, it´s power, it`s our punk and roll! It`s essential! Check it out and get this wash!
