Käesolev 20-looline taies algab vabajätsulike puhkpillide vilede ja kolinatega -- viide nii vabale kui psühhedeeliale kui vabale teadvusevoolule -, et seejärel kitarride lisandudes lülituda ümber ilmsemale DIY- ning lo-fi-vormelile. Kuivõrd tegu on kodusalvestusega ühelt pööraselt tüübilt, siis ilmselgelt ei ole tegu kuigi kompromissialti teosega. Kitarr ludistab ja lainetab, kohati ka seestunult üürgab ja pröökab, mingisugust turvalist tsooni selle taga ega ümber ei ole. Sellele lisanduvad dadaistlikud eksperimendid -- teadvust avardavad häälutused, mida toetab voolav, sama alati ootusärevusest tiine struktuur; teadmata, mis nurga taga ootab. Ajastul, mil muusikatööstus tugineb algoritmilisele ennustatavusele, esitusloendite paigutusele ja viimistletud tootele, mis konverteerib rohkem- või vähemjuhuslikud kuulajad voogedastusvaluutaks, tundub see 20-looline magamistoaüllitis justkui sajand tagasi reliisituna. See ei ole taustamuusika. See äratab nii tervet kui haiglast uudishimu ses suhtes, et milleks küll inimvaim võimeline on. Kodusalvestuste olemus on ilmne kogu teose vältel. See ei paku oma robustsust võluvana ega äratuntavana. Selle asemel kahekordistatakse dadaistlikke eksperimente, teadvust avardavaid häälitsusi ja nihestunud struktuurilaamasid, mis tõrguvad korduvateks refräänideks taandumaks. Artisti tekitatav ootusärevus viib kuulaja tasakaalust välja -- kunstiline valik, mis tekitab väikeses kultuslikus järgijaskonnas elevust, kuid tõrjub aktiivselt - ütleme siis nii - massituru tähelepanumajandust. Loomulikult oli see asi salvestatud palju kümnendeid tagasi, mis ei ennustanud tulevikku, vaid oli jätkuvalt osa 70ndatel alguse saanud põrandaalusest kassetikultuurist. Siin vaieldamatult on tõelist talenti. Kitarritöös, pealtnäha juhuslikus trummeldamises ning ka ajuudu vormimises (nii häälutuste kui sõnalise vormistusena) on ehtsat intuitiivset jõudu ning vabameelne lähenemine kannab endas singulaarsust. 8.5 (8.5-9.0)

Krynge - Tuf Kld Spd Rcr (1988)

Comment: just having read that the French president Emmanuel Macron has a helicopter on standby to evacuate him while France is controlled by a huge part of the nation, by the so-called yellow vests. While listening to this project of Zan Hoffman, and this half-hour issue (he reimagines recordings of his home taping friends like Swinebolt 45, and Minoy). I guess something analogously horrible and terrifying may be happening in the head of the leader now. Especially if there is up a comparison to the situation what happened in Romania exactly 29 years ago or what happened in France 229 years ago. In the latter case, the king did not have a helicopter and his attempt to run away with carriage failed. Musically it is a haphazard yet threateningly ecstatic blend of drumming, chimes and windbells, accidental electronic impulses, steam trumpets, buried shrieks and overamplified speeches, accelerated sounds of engines. Black noises are varied with torrents of howling brown noise attacks, yeah, it seems to be the frank analogue stuff. The issue which was initially released on ZH27 was re-released by the German imprint Attenuation Circuit in 2013 and providing a couple of minutes more music and a bit different content than the original one. The history repeats itself in a bit different manner.

Yoshida Com – Onna No Kanojo (2014)

Comment: this handful of tracks had been created approximately 3 decades ago in Japan on low price yet effectively propelling synthesisers and a drum machine called Alesis HR16. Light-hearted melodies, slightly extended and mutant chord ends, and naive yet catchy cadences with a slight tin-tinged flavour and occasional acidic attacks are composed in a way which can very certainly be considered as Japanese. At times it chimes like an example of pre-electroclash via rough simplification of post-punk music (especially at Scene 7). Thanks to Upitup for finding and exposing the Japanese DIY maverick to a wider audience.

Minóy – Devil Music (1988)

Comment: this live performed on an university campus by two US based noise musicians (Minoy, and PBK) turned into a controversial one because some attending people thought it was an act of diabolic worship presented on the stage. Eventually the live was shut down and the musicians were escorted off the campus. The issue consists of a pair of lengthy compositions which involves different styles and elements – from droning didgeridoo-alike buzzes and crackle-filled improvised guitar noises to Minoy invoked desperate screams and PBK`s played Moog sounds and effects. In a word, by listening to it today this chimes in an enchanting way. Do not give a heck to this legacy. I also recommend read a book, Minòy written by Joseph Nechvatal and dedicated to Stanley Keith Bowsza aka Minòy (1951-2010)
