Comment: Baltimore, Maryland, US-based resident Dave Keifer aka Cagey House has produced much music since 2005 under different netlabels of whom many still exist and some of them do not anymore. During his 11-year tenure it seems to me he has influenced many artists through his special experiments. For instance, most notably these threads could be heard on Oneothrix Point Never`s album R Plus Seven (2013, Warp) reminding very strongly of Keifer`s albums like 1902 (Bump Foot, 2009), and B For Breakfast (Bypass, 2010), for instance. The recent 7-notch issue was outed on under Japanese imprint Elegirl in 2013. He continues to strengthen his wondrous metaphysical world through sonic and stylistic permutations where warped yet delicate electronic movements are imbued with film noir dark tinged shades and ghastly seeds as if taking place in a remote, isolated place after the doom. It chimes like a miniaturised eerie motion plot which is expressed sonically. One of the ingredients of the formula are undoubtedly simmering psychedelic flickers which in turn are a consequence of improvised sounds. On the other side, many sounds are orchestrated in a way giving the whole a more dynamic and panoramic flow, of course, done on its own terms. Sometimes the aforementioned sonic motes are coated with gentle, exquisite drones which used to flow and hover atop to mesmerise the listener. It could be said Keifer takes on recognized elements of music yet changing it in his own way which eventually result in something very idiosyncratic and original. It could be assumed he takes on piano and classical music which ultimately comes out not being an ordinary example of the styles. It is something far more stylistically, it is somewhat more emotionally to provide much pleasure to the listener. Afford it for yourselves.

Soolee - Breath (2011)

/Folktronica, Organic electronica, Psytrance, Crossover, World music, Experimental electronica/

Comment
: Japanese music. Just 3 tracks. It embarks on with national motifs interlaced with organic electronic beats. The result is truly longing. In fact, the following track used to run in the similar manner as well, though, the relation between the layers is changed and variegated. More profoundly, the notch showcases more chill out-tinged vibes and oscillations. The last track is longer than the previous two tracks in total (11 minutes). It exploits repetitive structures and snippets, flourishing synth orchestrations which are backed up with psytrance rhythms bubbling below and around it. In a nutshell, the outlet is astonishing where the shape and harmony used to amplify each other.

gnyonpix - Place for a lost boy (2011)

/Primitive electronica, Lo-fi, DIY, Alternative, Chill out, Electronic pop, J-pop/

Comment
: gnyonpix is a Japanese project which showcases how the memories (from childhood?) should be proceeded in a way to shape a reliable folder of songs. Indeed, the primitive kind of concept is made up of joyous yet poignant accents and convincing counterpoints laid down within the concept of infantile pop. The lopsided yet suggestive motive of the last track (requiem for memories) seems to be even a little bit boozy. Not an ordinary publication at all.

Guillotine Hairshaver – Miloque Kloque (2011)

Elegirl

9.0

/IDM, Experimental electronica, Primitronica, Glo-fi, DIY, Lo-fi, Ambient techno/

Comment: Another spectacular cake on the Japanese Elegirl Records. You can call it as experimental IDM, or a new sort of electronic approach, however, it prickles and tingles relentlessly, constituting the lopsided, at times clumsy patterns and sublime bows based on spherical layers and throbbing undercurrents. It obviously draws inspiration from the nowadays lo-fi/DIY/glo-fi aesthetics and a sort of easy listening and electronic music created many decades ago (you can perceive some similarities with Silver Apples, and even Suicide, for instance). Indeed, it outpaces the possible calculations and patterns of common electronic music writing.

sanmi - schizophrenic glitched girl (2011)

9.1

/Toytronica, IDM, Glitchtronica, Microtonal, Organic electronica, Minimal, Experimental electronica/

Comment: this is a lovely project by a lovely recording label from Japan, called Elegirl. Sanmi is an unit started out in 1998. Kyo Sanagi provides a 6-track issue of more or less restraint glitch electronica, i.e undulantly dinging and chiming (at times embraced by sublime noisy hiss washes) or a bit nervously fluttering right and left, respectively. Inspite of its dominantly austere construction it used to evoke a loads of beatific senses and nostalgic memories as if popped out from the very early childhood. It rings out as if Steve Reich`s sonic principles (especially related to Drumming) were thought for to perform them with the help of austere electronic devices and circuit bends. Less is more for sure.
