Nick Rivera – Zamalek (2013)

/Indie folk, Folktronica, Art folk, Singer-songwriter, Americana, Folk indie, Experimental folk, Post-folk/

Comment: Zamalek is the follow-up to the album Happy Song Is A Happy Song (2010, La bél). One of the main differences between those issues is the Italian artist`s close flirtation toward more noisy sounds and transformations from silent moments to ferocious bursts very quickly. On the other side, Nick Rivera has not abandoned his branded mellow songwriting touch with lofty sonic experimentation (mainly electronic micro noise wisps and sublime orchestration here and there) being abundantly represented on this 7-track release as well. Furthermore, the issue involves some fairly epic moments replete with magic splendour (The Beast, for instance). The album was issued on La bèl, a record label from Italy dedicated to issue folk tinged experimental pop music.

Dwoogie - Babble Off (2012)

/Breakcore, Electro pop, Robot pop, Sampledelic, Dub, Psytrance, Alternative/

Comment: behind the nom de plume Dwoogie produces music Robin Gill who has made it for more than two decades so far. Babble Off consists of a row of breaks combined with hovering (or brooding conversely) synth sounds and production effects (less or more twisted vocal samples and scratches). More concretely, there are represented psychedelic trance beats and electro flickers, some of them used to sound quite laid back, some of them are full of vivid energy and unexpected bursts. There are also represented some hints at dub and robot pop music. In general, the album could be considered a part of sampledelic music being so popular today. The album is issued under Ergo Phizmiz`s record label Chinstrap. Eventually it can be said the result is balanced and varicoloured.

Totuls - Open Held Doors (2014)

/Modern classical, Ambient pop, Electro-acoustic, Neoclassical, Crossover, Dark ambient, Illbient, Breakcore, Electro-acoustic/

Comment: actually it is a quite puzzling enterprise to describe this album of 10 tracks coming in at 32 minutes. The general point of the issue is to create a tension between wispy, fragile upper layers and loosely rhythmical inferior sequences. More profoundly, the former of them is remarkably more differentiated due to airy piano chords which used to extend and hover after being tapped out. John Winston Richards also provides slightly sinister synth progressions interwoven with eerie electro-acoustic manipulation and buried noisy bits and murky echoes and mid-range buzzing sounds. There are also wispy yet angelic vowel fabrics giving it a more spaced-out approach and touch. If to regard the rhythm based pads it used to mainly rotate around twisted drum and bass/jungle alike bounces. In a word, it is a crossed issue of different yet not very distant genres resulting in exciting combinations of sound and initial premises. The issue is a part of  PIR▲.MD Records, a Mexico based record label.

Pollux - Luminous Flowers

The Mussy Gluves - Pelu Green Puns (2014)

/Avant-rock, Americana, Dada music, No Wave, Psychedelic rock, Avant-blues, Art rock, Noise rock, Experimental rock, Space rock, Leftfield/

Comment: in fact, it is hardly classifiable music on its own because the artist`s purpose is to deliberately contort possible initial sources and premises laid out to create this 12-track issue. However, if to listen to it you can hear some hints at Americana and roots music which in turn are crossed with provocative dadaist`s ethos. More concretely, those layers are injected with uncanny flickers and, acute electronic bursts and noisy interventions. Furthermore, the listener can perceive spaced-out and delta bluesy compositions as well, though, witnessing serious aesthetical “injuries” and errors within it. Frequently vocal layers are twisted in a way to create a perception of alternative belonging or disparate world colliding with each other. This album is strongly out of pop. Provoking yet enthralling made up by the duo Matt Heitman and Danny Barton from Missouri, USA. There can be drawn parallels upon such artists as Captain Beefheart, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Royal Trux, and The Residents. But  make no mistake the duo`s sound is highly idiosyncratic.

The Starry Tides - One Lit Window EP (2006)

/Post-rock, Indietronica, Experimental rock, Mood music, Alternative rock, Art rock/

Comment:  The Starry Tides is the project of David Merson Hess who is also known as film music composer. It is a peculiar issue because of involving tracks being not longer than 3 minutes (the whole finishes off at 10.41). On the other side, it is a sort of post-rock music which tends to meander within many minutes from its starting point. Frequently guitar sounds are embellished with glitch electronic noises, vivid spoken samples (from the film scores?). By the way, the album is issued on his own record label Reverse Engine. In a word, the result is moody and revealing its abundant supply of fantasies.

.Khi -I Had A Dream (2007)

/Electro pop, Breakcore, Leftfield, Noise, Alternative, Minimal electro, Experimental electro/

Comment: there are up six tracks extending over 22 minutes. .Khi is the project by Hugo Murutar, an Estonian producer whose dream is quite multi-faceted. It is mainly electro-based although heavily infiltrated with noisy undercurrents and disparate sonic debris, occult chants, and tweaked sonic manipulations. Thanks to multiple and unexpected changes (i.e collage-like nature) the whole seems to have saturated a feral feeling which is fairly positive and giving it a particular feeling. At times those electro propulsions are highly catchy (Let`s Jam!), at times remarkably minimal, haunting and stalking. Eventually it can be said the result is mind-provoking and cool.

ZGERSS - In the Labratory of a Nationally Known Scientist (2009)

/Electronic pop, Chill out, Lo-fi, Neo-soul, Mood music, Digital funk, Bedroom pop, Alternative, DIY, Improvised music/

Comment: Zachary "Zgress" Gresser is a musician from Arlington, USA who had been a part of Rack And Ruin Records, a DIY/bedroom pop music record label from the Netherlands.  The label`s discography embraced such artists as Gnomefoam, Megazord, starstarstar, Chad Golda, Tyson Brinacombe, Dublin Duck Dispensary, Teacups, Witchporn, Vlantis Urotanki, Moon Runners, Hungry Owl…and many other ones. ZGRESS` 9-track issue is a loose blend of chill out/moody pop, autotuned soul hovers, some digital funk chips and some gently improvised music progressions which frequently will conjure nostalgic sensations and intentions to look back toward the past. On the other side, there are some exceptions either – for instance, the ending track Return Home which is an instrumental indie progression with slight hints at funk music. The introduction of Soft Songs is a beatific glimpse through the exploitation of ambient music templates. Ad Hoc is an instrumental piano driven interlude. By the way, I like the ironical title of the album and poignant coverprint. In a word, discover the album and the rest of Rack And Ruin`s discography which was a corroborant dodge within the DIY/lo-fi inclined underground music movement at the end of 00s and in the beginning of 10s.

Morphine Bandit - Subtle Shift Theory (2013)

/Abstract, Ambient, Micronoise, Experimentalism, Minimalism, Experimental electronica, Drone, Sound art, Ambient drone, Post-industrial, Avant-garde, Crossover/

Comment: Morphine Bandit`s 6-track issue might seem quite austere and minimal at the first glance. The album starts off with signal-like drones which chimes almost like static noise. Later on, the issue will be slightly softened and change into abstract insights which is embellished with concomitant subtle rhythms at times. The tentacles of an eerie metallic machine used to extend across the soundscapes to carve its traces. However, by theoretical and psychoacoustic standpoint the album involves remarkably more elements – how the listener will perceive this issue? What kind of sounds used to actually exist on the album and what sort of sounds are generated by the listener`s ear? What kind of music is that actually represented on the album? Indeed, Subtle Shift Theory used to alter the listener`s perceptions throughout this course because of exploiting those very minimal changes. Very good.

Radiator Hospital – Some Distant Moon (2012)

/Punk rock, Fuzz pop, Alternative rock, Indie rock, Psychedelic pop/

Comment: Philadelphia-based quartet Radiator Hospital`s 4-track issue emits pure energy and artsy power getting power from nexus of the best rock and roll traditions. This issue consists of short-running rushes replete with “lazy” singing, rolling soul guitar dashes, and elegantly propulsive drums. In spite of representing music within a simple formula it comprises enough minor points at first sight which would have made up the release. I like of how the combo is deft to properly balance between power pop impulses and remarkably lighter, even psychedelic pads. You could enjoy it to be on the board of this steam ship.

Quattroannidiversi – ViVeriVive (2015)

/Art rock, Indie rock, Singer-songwriter, Indie folk, Alternative pop, Post-punk/

Comment: ViVeriVive is an Italian record label who has recommended many Italian artists with disparate aesthetic interests and impulses to the world. However, this compilation of seven tracks by seven musical projects is more guitar and drum-heavy and many artists on it used to draw influences from seminal art punk, post-punk, and No Wave scenes. On the other side, some tracks on it are more restrained and folk-inclined ones. It is thought-provoking music performed in Italian. The are such artists as Zinalbo, Faro, Gio Fattoruso, Reazione Acustica, Rudolfo Toè, Il Nostro Tempo Violento, and Lullabier.

Ripple – Land Crocodile (2014)

/Breaks, Experimental techno, Experimental electro, IDM, Leftfield/

Comment: Ripple is the nom de plume of Daniel Craig, an Australian producer whose 4-track issue does embark on with heavy stereo effects and intricate rhythm patterns as if were a counterpoint to mathematical formulas. The rhythm patterns used to melt into blobs to lose its angular shape and thereafter re-solidify again into incisive cadent sequences. Later on, the aforementioned elements will be compounded with some aquatic, atmospheric and noisy sounds. At times the listener can enjoy artificial quacks hovering atop altered beats. Because of getting more multi-layered the result will be changed into fairly playful and amusing. You can feel a funky essence within it at times. Although it is thoroughly rhythmic music it is obviously not thought to be presented for playing on dance floors. Although it can be considered an example of intelligent dance music it does not mean it is totally a part of the style called with such title because of remarkably deviating from it. It might sound slightly paradoxically but it seems in this way. Highly pleasurable.

Twisted Freak – We Play With Time (2014)

/Dub, Minimal dub, Experimental techno, Electronic pop/

Comment: Twisted Freak is a Portuguese musician Josè Silva whose 8-track issue is a wondrous listening experience. It could have been a prominent dance music album if some accents would have been presented a little bit differently. It could have been a prominent nu jazz album if it would have resorted to more languid sonic peals. In a word, the release involves many sonic spots and figures to reveal its huge possibility. However, the actual issue is bigger than its possibilities, though. More concretely, sultry dub induced echoes and spaced-out soundscapes are crossed with slinky techno rhythms which would have resulted in suggestive electronic pop alike compositions at times (Come Mellow, Love Is Fine). The album will be finished off with an indie electronic refraction called Time: Perception.  In a nutshell, the result is amazing. It is a part of the discography of Zigur Artists.

Totokoko Christmas Compilation 5 (2014)

/Folktronica, Modern classical, Alternative, Indietronica, Conceptual, Cowbell indie/

Comment: actually it is never late to listen to Totokoko label related (Xmas) compilations because music represented over there has no time related barriers. The compilation reflects upon the Japanese label`s sonorous nature – from soothing indie electronic and folk related programmed music to more IDM and modern classical centred compositions. Some songs are embellished with field recording/electro-acoustic shells. Despite their predominantly glitchy body nine artists/compositions inhabited over there will reveal their sensitive soul and warm-riddled heart. More concretely, there are up such projects as Henri Almond, Morimoto Naoki, OOOQ, Mitsuyoshi Matsuda, Shayou, Junya Nishimura, Koji Maruyama, and Ryosuke Miyata (ex.Miche). Enjoy modern Xmas songs.

XO - Diccionario De Silencio (2014)

/Alt-folk, Indie folk, New Weird Spain, Experimental folk, Funk rock, Folk indie, Singer-songwriter/

Comment: XO is an artist from Santiago De Compostela, Spain whose 10-track album used to represent exquisite grids and synapses regarding artsy folk music. It is mostly saturated with dream-filled singing made up in a longing manner. It includes a shitloads of key changes, thought-provoking variations and intriguing tones thereby resembling some grand Americana combos. However, at times some exceptions are up there to arise from the whole – some funky propulsions, shadowy post-rock induced guitar escalations, concrete music shards. In any cases, XO demonstrates to us that modern (folk) music can be tasteful and corroborant simultaneously. It is not a case of ad hoc folk. It is a bridge between silence and still life.

Weinberger – Shades Of Bewilderment (2014)

/Avant-garde, Post-psychedelic electronica, Dada music, No Wave, Experimentalism/

Comment: the Austrian musician Johannes Leo Weinberger is not a nonsense man. I can remember for the first time when my way crossed with his compositions (the album Memorial from the year 2013 on Petroglyph). The artist`s outlet seemed to be restrained and artsy yet being highly abrasive at the same time. However, this issue is remarkably more deranged and wonky replete with an innumerable amount of dodges, polyrhythms and hints at different musical compartments and epochs. The result is truly weird and out of pop while elevating higher the listener`s blood pressure. There is up one track where he deconstructs a very well-known melody/theme. However, I guess it is nonsensical to count all these elements represented within this whole. You just must have listened to it.

Tinyfolk – Black Bears (2010)

/Indie folk, Singer-songwriter, Americana, New Weird America, Dream folk, Folk indie, Alt-folk, Lo-fi/

Comment: by listening to this album it can be said Russ Woods aka Tinyfolk has grown up sometime. On the other side, it does not mean at all that his previous albums were somehow inferior in quality. His 13-track album involves many mellow modern folk songs saturated with panoramic longing, full-fledged dreams, irony and many philosophical stances regarding life in general. The arrangements are thought and soul provoking and organic ones by exploiting different motives and instruments – from cinematically strumming guitars and ukuleles to visceral vowel backgrounds, reverb-driven yet restrained noise pop numbers (Amygdala) and electronic compositions (particularly fabulous Hello, This Is Tech Support). Russ Woods` vocal is frequently immersed in melancholy thereby giving it an irresistible reflection. By any means, it is a great album by the CLLCT related singer-songwriter/indie folk musician. The album is recorded and produced by another prominent CLLCT bound musician and co-Pretty Swan Jim Laczkowski (aka Garden On A Trampoline aka James Eric).

The Fucked Up Beat – Europa (2015)

/Sampledelic, Experimentalism, Exotica pop, Breaks, Sound collage, Experimental electronica, Hauntology, Leftfield, Avant-garde, Crossover/

Comment: first of all, I guess any new issue from the prolific San Diego/New York duo The Fucked Up Beat is an event for music lovers.  Eddie Palmer and Brett Zehner`s collaboration over the internet is a fine example of how music can fruitfully be influenced by conspiracy theories, spy conversations and oldie music/exotica pop samples replete with mysticism, divine touch and  transcendentalism. Furthermore, all these cultural references are reflected through modern production and some distinctly nowadays rhythmic progressions are more predominantly up there sounding like a haunting house party somewhere in a freemason lodge. Actually the issue proves that haunted music didn`t inevitably begin with the rise of The Caretaker but the traces hark back to The Conet Project`s Shortwave Numbers Stations (1997, Irdial-Discs) being by the way the inspiration source for Wilco`s album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. By the way, the duo issued the albums at the same time (another album is called Europa II).

YlangYlang - Am I Being Overdramatic? (2014)

/Ambient pop, Chillwave, Avant-pop, Glo-fi, Alternative pop, Ambient, Art pop, Dreamwave, Post-pop, Indietronica, New Weird Canada, Glitch folk/

Comment: YlangYlang is the prolific (French) Canadian Catherine Debard whose 11-track issue is pure sonic joy for filling your sunshiny day. Her sound consists of a sort of sound which was popularized by such artists as Julia Holter, Maria Minerva, Laurel Halo, Grimes. More concretely, it consists of vowel effects which used to sway from one channel to another or one vowel sample is simply superimposed by other ones thereby either creating psychedelic or crystalline sense. Furthermore, Debard`s issue is varicoloured with some free folk compositions where concrete music drenched backgrounds create fairly unusual feeling to bold guitar chords in the foreground. The release finishes off with a soothing ambient composition where briny undulation is brought to the front. In a nutshell, the outlet is a fair notch of the blossoming Canadian music scene and was certainly one of the best albums in 2014.

Bauri - rwb004 (2004)

/Remix, Electronic pop, Post-rock, Experimental rock, Alternative dance, Synth pop/

Comment: this issue contains a couple of tracks both of them are remixes on their own. The first of them is a Bauri´s remake with the assistance of glitteringly dreamy synthesizers and bouncy sequencing being laid out somewhere in between the dance floor and private pop listening. The other one is Erik Levander`s post-rock-ish insight through low-key guitar chords, vinyl-alike crackle drenched background and some seductive vowel effects. The result is an astonishing bound of an electronic/dance music and experimental rock output. The issue is a part of Racewillbegin, a Swedish record label which had existed in the first half of 00s.

Taavi Tulev – Televiisor on tuksis (2002)

/Experimental electronica, Industrial techno, Abstract techno/

CommentTeleviisor on tuksis (TV is broken) was the debut album by then 18-year-old Taavi Tulev whose 14-track issue reveals many magnificent moments and felicitous progressions. The album starts off with industrial electronic impulses, however, involving some techno frequencies within it. Later on, more abstract and electronic and even noisy hovers would be ready to overwhelm the release and the listener`s soul (or brain as you wish). Despite its metallic and machine centred concept the outlet is somehow replete with gladness and joy of living (for instance, Kivi is filled with childishly winsome chords). On the other side, the album used to provide daydreams with the assistance of volatile synth gears and motives. The  issue would be finished off in the key of romantic, chamber drenched electronic flickers. The Estonian musician`s following issue Diktüoneemakilt was released under the pseudonym Wochtzchèe in 2006 (Ulmeplaadid) which can be considered one of the toughest issues regarding the Estonian electronic/ambient music scene. In a word, it is a classic one – it is a must-have release.

Stereolab – October 2, 2008 Irving Plaza (2008)

/Krautrock, French disco, Krautrock, Art pop, Live session, Electronic, Psychedelic pop, Easy listening, Indietronica/

Comment: Stereolab was undoubtedly one of the most important indie combos in the 90s along with My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Lycia, Mercury Rev, Labradford and Tortoise. Their sound was a mix of shoegaze, Krautrock, art pop, indietronica, French disco, and psychedelic pop. Fortunately the Sadier-Gane led combo albums would not bear clear-cut elements from their Marxist principles whose representation would have been a simply ridiculous, populist bullshit just to show off for nobody. I guess that the die-hard anarchist would despise the genocidal tendencies so characteristic to communism throughout the history. This set involves 19 tracks and the result is a vivid kraut jamming saturated with bitty nylon bass strings, psychedelic Farfisa organ and Moog synthesiser sounds and Neu! inspired motorik beats. It is a great live session by the great group indeed.

Cinchel – Reign Water (2014)

/Drone, Avant-garde, Ambient, Minimalism, Ambient drone/

Comment: Cinchel is a producer from Chicago, Illinois, USA who has issued more than a dozen of albums in 5 years. Reign Water comprises 6 compositions made up of dense droning, low bass frequencies and ambient-induced hovers. Despite its austere nature the whole reveals hidden aspects throughout the listening course. At times it is embellished with sparkling glitchtronic flickers, at times drones used to turn into throbbing electronic pulses. In a word, it is an outstanding album which needs attention and time to get opened.

Summer Of Haze - Ω†Р∆ЖΣНИΣ З∆К∆†∆ 8 ΩКН∆Х СƱПΣРМ∆РКΣ†∆

/Electronic pop, Sound collage, Vaporwave, Indie, Ambient pop, Sampledelic, Alternative/

Comment: these 8 tracks are quite easy to digest because of consisting of facile synth progressions, pastel-hued string chords (a la Ducktails or Real Estate) and slight (ambient) pop formats with some hints at field recording/sample based/sound collage music. However, on the other side, it includes a little bit more ominous elements (slowed-down bass lines and vocal layers), though in a lesser extent than the above mentioned elements. Furthermore, the tracks are quite short-running ones (approximately 2 minutes in length) conjuring the feeling of fragmented music. In a word, Summer Of Haze`s album is a decent part of the vaporwave scene.

DaNile – Ducky Sees… (2008)

/Indie rock, Singer-songwriter, Alternative pop, Lo-fi, DIY, Americana/

Comment: just noticed that four years have passed very quickly since Rack & Ruin Records (Dean Birkett) decided to finish off its activity. Rack & Ruin was a great record label due to releasing a honest DIY music albums, some of them were more tricky electronic and noise soaked, the rest of them were more alternative pop and rough rock inspired ones. DaNile`s 5-track issue is a part of the last-mentioned compartment consisting of bold guitar chords, epic organ lines and suggestive singing replete with different tones and hues. The result is very worth to be picked up.

Satanic Erynn Boe 666 – Final Boss Fight (2013)

/Noise, Avant-hop, Leftfield, Rap, Urban music, Experimental hop/

Comment: Satanic Erynn Boe`s purpose is not provide compositions of being long-running in duration. There are up tracks of approximately 2 minute in length. The artist`s music is a desperate kind of hip-hop music replete with loud, reverberating chanting in the forefront which in turn is accomplished with noisy layers and aggressive rhythms. Because of its crystal-clear experimental and clattery nature SEB666 chimes like a twin brother to Death Grips and Dälek. Penetrating and assaultive.

Maskinoperator – Synth Sprit Och CP Skador 2005-2009 (2009)

/Chiptune, Tracker music, 8-bit, Electro pop, Chipbreak, Bitpop, Alternative dance/

Comment: Maskinoperator`s 33-minute monolithic track consists of 11 different parts all of them are up there to evoke the listener`s sense of rhythms and very good time. However, because of having relied on acid fuelled yet naïve 8-bit/bitpop/chiptune propulsions the result sounds like a childish version of adult electronic music/or a kindergarten party. Because juxtaposing such seemingly contrary elements against each other the result chimes truly uncanny. It might be a way back to your childhood (even if you were not listening to such kind of music then).

Take Pills Die - 08.01.18 Terrorist (2008)

/House, Noise, Ambient, Experimental electronica, Leftfield, Alternative/

Comment: it is a loose concept of electronic music providing the shelter for many styles and variations. There are experiments with intense electronic music, near noise and ambient sounds, providing some stereo effects and on the other side Take Pills Die used to trudge across the fields of house music. Indeed, it is highly interesting to hear how the artist manipulates with different sounds and layers all of which used to channelize into something blossoming and fertile. Behind this project hides himself Andrew Cauthen, a very prolific musician.

G-DO & Xception - A Tribute to Fela Kuti: Felatastic (2011

/Conceptual, Afro beat, Hip-hop, Urban Music, Afro futurism, Psychedelic, Afro funk, Rap/

Comment: Chicago rapper Xception and Amsterdam producer G-DO do insist in the introducing track Outline that their purpose is to introduce the Nigerian legend Fela Kuti`s music to a newer audience. Indeed, in their first Felastatic album (10 tracks) they would complete their task regarding a mix between nowadays hip-hop music elements and hovering, psychedelic nature of afro beat/funk//afro futuristic rhythms and prominent harmonic sensitivity. For instance, listen to The Revolutionist, a fabulous blend of dance appealed rhythms, convulsive scratch flecks and hectic chants which are about to rear the listener`s feel and intoxicate it with timeless perception regarding good kind of music. On the other side, it does not surprise with regard to crafty production abilities being previously experienced by those producers. However, they would release a sequel to this issue in 2013. In a word, hail to the king Fela Anikulapo Kuti (1938-1997).

Protuberance – Dimension And Breaks (2013)

/Deep house, Space music, New Age, Psytrance, Big beat, Crossover, Electronica/

Comment: indeed, it can say that the title of Bulgarian Ilevan Iliev`s 7-track issue justifies its name and intention. The album provides the journey through labyrinthine rhythmic plateaus and profound and more light-hearted synth based explorations. The modernity is juxtaposed against old-fashioned sonic appearances (they are rather classic ones, though). More profoundly, genuine spaced-out progressions, spiky rhythmic promontories and proper deep house vibes are laid out to be jettisoned in favour of languid New Age-y progressions and tribal electronic/trance examples (proper ones to be presented at WOMAD either). And vice versa. The favourite track of mine is Solar Corona, a fascinating composition created for completing your space journey. It is a hortative listening for sure.

Sanmi - Junkie (2013)

/Experimental electronica, Sampledelic, Leftfield, Hauntology, Sound collage/

Comment: obviously it is not the first attempt to ridicule serious pop music attitude on its very own core. Japanese artist Sanmi exploits only some syllables or words or phrases to underline a peculiar atmosphere predominantly hanging over a whole of consisting of 4 compositions. On the other side, this word based context (having hints at licking at a candybar and hipsters who used to bear an attitude of musical junkies) is backed up by austere, looped bass rhythms which used to ignite a spooky milieu to come forth. It might be inspired either by The Caretaker, by Cassetteboy, horror/sci-fi movies or something else but the result is quite idiosyncratic and unquestionably thought-provoking listening. The issue is a part of elementperspective, an experimental/electronic music label from Nippon.

Sunburned Hand of the Man - Three Lobed/WXDU Day Show, Hopscotch Music Festival, King's, Raleigh, NC (2014)

/New Weird America, Live session, Drone rock, Krautrock, Space rock, Avant-rock, Psychedelic rock, Experimental rock, Improvised music/

Comment: it is a great, 27-minute live session by the cult Massachusetts combo Sunburned Hand of the Man whose music reflects upon the interplay between noise and silence, between “natural” instrumentation and processed electronic sounds. It is a perfect sort of relaxation music due to outstretched droning, spaced-out guitar drenched trajectories, motorik rhythm engines and delayed crescendos and resigned incantations made up by Greta Svalberg. The result is a spellbinding trip through sonic magic. In addition to it I recommend listen to the likes of Vibracathedral Orchestra, Natural Snow Buildings, Ashtray Navigations, Kemialliset Ystävät, and Children Of The Drone.

LFC & FCao – In Memorian (2012)

/Experimental rock, Improvised music, Dada music, Doom rock, Psychedelic, Noise rock, Avant-rock, Blues, Space rock/

Comment: these 24 minute minutes are saturated with blues drenched carcasses which in turn are embellished with knee-deep psychedelic organ solos and heavily down-tuned or tortured vocals (it is actually moaning on its own if to express it straightforwardly) and bold bass gears. On the other side, it can be considered a kind of jazz music played with the instrumentation of other styles. Thirdly, all this out-of-pop stuff spawned over there is obviously inspired by a provocative, dadaist weltanschauung. The project comes out of Brazil being a part of the asschoes blogspot (unfortunately it does not function anymore with the loss of many download links ). Superb shit indeed.

Ayane Fukumi - High-Octane Dancecore (2014)

/Mash-up, Breakcore, Sampledelic, Plunderphonics, Remixes/

Comment: 18-year old Ayane Fukumi`s 22-track issue embraces mostly original tracks and some remixes and covers. Fukumi used to remix such juggernauts as Ludwig Van Beethoven, and Pink Floyd. However, by its approach the artist outlet reminds of a superficial and bulimic mash-up issue replete with a vast amount of dodges, well-known artist`s samples and trashy noises and “accidental” ding-dongs. The release is a part of the discography of Underground Core Collective, a relatively new record label from California, USA which appeared in 2014 for the first time.

The Easton Ellises – NightWavs (2014)

/Dance rock, Post-punk, Alternative dance, Electro-indie, Punk funk, Synth rock, Alternative pop/

Comment: The Easton Ellises is a Montrèal, Canada based duo of Alexandre Dionne (previously known as Stereomovers), and Simon Roy who have gained popularity with such issues as EP One, Black Love (single), and Dance It, Dance All, and EP Two. (mostly related to a Portugese record label, enoughrecords). Their music is an inseparable blend of electronic pop, synth pop, post-punk, post-disco, and alternative pop, though in general Dionne-Roy`s sound could be added to the compartment of the so-called post-punk revival music because most of the movement`s related bands used to blend exalted bubble gum-alike beats with catchy guitar hooks and emphatically arrogant singing. The recent issue comprises 4 tracks all of them reveal that arguments about the death of suggestive melodies and rhythms regarding the nowadays musical groups are just vain attempts. Because of having those elements represented throughout the issue their temporary bombasting approach turns into something appealing. Indeed, I do not bear any arguments against their aesthetics. It is pure enjoyment ready to penetrate into your inner world.
