Tunas Bangsa Simphony - Tunas Bangsa Simphony (2013)

9.0

/Indie pop, Sunshine pop, Alternative pop, Baroque pop, Chamber pop/

Comment: this set of 3 tracks is an enjoyable listening for friday afternoon. It chimes like an early Cardigans creating harmonies out of shimmering orchestrations, guitar strums and charming female chirps. The last track Anaesthetic Kiss manages chanson pop elements to be mixed up into the piece. In a word, the whole is straight-ahead and anthemic at once. And that`s OK.

The Colleagues - The Colleagues (2013)

9.4

/Indie pop, Alternative pop, Jangle pop, Chamber pop, Sunshine pop, Baroque pop/

Comment: Sea Indie is a label from Asia whose purpose is to promote a section of great indie music from the Southeast Asia. For instance, this pair of tracks by an Indonesian musical group is an excellent example for it. Chiming, sub-orchestrated guitars, moderate keyboard currents and hypnotizing female singing are full of emotions, charm and dizzying moods coming out of any slots over there. At times it sounds more like the kind of retrodelic soundtrack music rather than some kind of chart related sound. It rings somewhere in between Minnie Riperton, early Cardigans, and Sundays. Yet, the worthiness of the collective is hidden on its own. Do not forget it.

Syarlothsita - Syarlothsita (2012)

9.2

/Indie pop, Indie folk, Alternative pop, Folk indie, Dream pop, Jangle pop/

Comment: undoubtedly Syarlothsita is a decent representative of the Yogyakarta-based indie scene. These 3 pieces are inspired by playgrounds, fantasy tales, and children`s cheerfulness, more concretely, filled with chiming guitar chords which are embellished with the whiffs of harmonica, fringes of glockenspiel play and articulated singing by Kiki Tsalasita. Yet, the last track Circus In Town is a short output played with the  assistance of lone, dripping piano chords having devoid of any other instruments except Tsalasita`s vocal. The set is issued on Sea Indie, an imprint for Southeast Asia Indie. Both of them are truly solid ones.

SEA Compilation - Summers Daydream (2011)

/Twee pop, Indie pop, Alternative pop/rock, Jangle pop, Baroque pop/

Comment
: In fact, I have myself pampered with listening to indie music compilations on such labels as Eardrums Pop, Beko DSL, and Hobo Cult so far. Here is another one, offering a 15-track miscellany created basically in the belief pertaining of the goodness of old school alternative pop stuff. Here can be detected for an abundant amount of influences popping out from the C86 movement and its closely related jangle and twee pop, 90`s galant baroque pop/brass/folk. On the other side, however, a few songs are doo wop, ye-ye and disco-drenched. By the way, all the artists come only from the countries of the Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Philippines, Singapor, Thailand).
