Enbilulugugal - The TAURO Sessions '09 (2013)

/Harsh noise, Black metal, Avant-garde, Brutal metal, Black noise, Non-music, Technical metal, Noisecore, Psycho-acoustic/

Comment: the listener can be very sure this miscellany is not about pop musicat all, more concretely, being located somewhere in the periphery of metal and powerviolent music. If you have made acquaintance with the so-called Japanese noise music then this band might resemble the likes of Hanatarashi and Gerogerigegege, for instance. Similarly to the combo`s sonorous impact the 4-track issue is also impressive graphically – all bars indicating frequencies are at the height and the oscillation line is permanently quadrangularly shaped. Indeed, all is starkly amplified over here – some hardcore rock/punk roots are channelized into demented psyched-out outbursts, math rock premises are overthrown to get wrapped up in blackened metal rabidity and noise music straitjacket. In a word, it must be heard before to believe (in) it – overwhelming by any means.

EDASI – Orphaned Demons Follow Your Destiny (2014)

  • Black noise
  • Avant-garde
  • Psycho-acoustic
  • Crust punk
  • Blackgaze
  • Experimentalism
  • Improvised music
  • Non-music
Comment: when I was a little boy while lying in bed I was a little bit frightened by trying to listen to buzzing frequencies behind the silence and dreaming up ghouls coming out of the wall. This 11-track issue by Mihkel Kleis aka Ratkiller aka EDASI recalls me a little bit these early days in my life. Although his music can be considered an exemplar of black noise the album incorporates elements from disparate genres. Fairly sympathetic are those barely audible but effectively resulting sampled particles, occult speech and burked screams-ritual evocations and pulsating synth repetitions among tight layering. Kleis also used to recruit quite uncommon sounds in the context of such kind of music – for instance, melodica-driven explorations in one composition. An important part of the issue is the relation between insistent, besotted noise walls and elements coming out of it. Moreover, it is all about of how a sonic particle or snippet is contingent on the total amount of these particles, and conversely. The final track Outro and partially Intro are more concretely influenced by My Bloody Valentine`s beatific noise aesthetics. Call it architectural approach to create black noise music. In a word, it will take care of your soul.

Tjolgtjar - Witchcrafts (2011)

9.1

/Death metal, Grindcore, Hardcore, Psych-metal, Surf pop, Crossover, Experimental metal, Avant-garde/

Comment: Dipsomaniac Records is keen on to issue such kind of music which is heavy, sharp, tense, frequently obscure, and emphatically cutting edge. However, the particular release of 9 compositions can be considered to get involved in a mutilated and deranged view of hard rock and metal which used to run on both fast and mid-tempo paces, hitting and biting. On the other side, however, such a kind of style is entitled as death metal today, though, incorporating a loads of the chirps of other musical styles. Mostly there can be found hints at grindcore, psych-rock/metal, hardcore. Furthermore, even some basics of the aesthetics of electronica and surf pop are to be pronounced at times over there. In a nutshell, lots of power and vital energy comes out from within it.

Ratkiller - Gallic Cones (2012)

9.0

/Synth fusion, DIY, Progressive rock, RIO/Avant-prog, Experimental rock, Mood music, Crossover/

Comment: this 10-piece album takes on investigation of the relations between psychedelic fusion, 80`s synthesized regatta pop, space tinged-art pop, DIY-hued aesthetics (indeed, successfully avoiding the quality of sterile studio sound), and RIO/avant-prog glimpses and slots. Anyway, the final result is prudently amusive and uplifting where the technical side of it is finely counterbalanced with moody, psychic sides. Behind the project is Mihkel Kleis, who is being known as the leader of such formations as Luarvik Luarvik, and EDASI.

Zarach "Baal" Tharagh - Deadly Pale Face (2012)

/Noise, Brutal metal, Crossover, Psychedelia, DIY, Avant-garde, Experimental metal,
Avant-metal/

Comment
: there are up 7 tracks crossing tightly noise and metal, nihilistic and black and essentially brutal. It involves massive noise washes, ominous moaning, some heavy guitar riffs and abrasive oscillation. Inspite of the abovementioned nihilistic endeavours the album can be considered a psychedelic one which recognizes the borders, though, consistently bringing them to test. This is a case how would have chimed Black Sabbath if they started today. In a word, it is thoroughly formidable in which the listener can be sure it is not about pop music or pop music in its positive sense at least. The negation of it is awesome.
