If The People Were Paper – Rotten Sugar (2008)

/Lo-fi, DIY, Anti-folk, Electro-acoustic, Psych-folk, Space folk, Freeformfreakout, Singer-songwriter, Ambient, New Weird America, Experimentalism/

Comment: I don`t know how should this handful of pieces be tagged for? Is it electro-acoustic music with plenty of folk music influences or vice versa? Or is it an ambient music album with remarkable inclination toward primitivism? Or is it a spoken word album with hints at spaced-out folk/rock music? Maybe even something else? However, the result is impressive in its madness loaded with desperate chants and freaky shrieks. At times the way is paved by the dada tradition fuelled brown noise produced bits. Indeed, it is the kind of songwriting coming out of a remote corner. For instance, Mountains is a solid folk song with some indirect grunge influences in the blend. The soundscape is rough due to primitive noises and echoes thereby giving it verve to change into an idiosyncratic punch. It can be said the album is almost being undiscovered so far (you can trace for only few listening times at Lastfm for instance). Furthermore, I was not able to figure out who is the person behind the project. There is no information about it. However, let`s find out the issue in the discography of Rack And Ruin Records.

David Woodgett – Over The Ash Tree (2015)

/Psych-rock, Alternative rock, Indie rock, Blues rock, Space rock/

Comment: UK-based musician David Woodgett`s three track issue is a true-bred rock and roll accomplishment. Based on bold blues rock energy and rhythmic threads Woodgett adeptly refracts it through a contemporary prism of guitar and drums generated music. The result is enjoyably murky where ominous bass chords are set up to fall into mesmerizing repeated cadences which is assisted by Woodgett`s enchanting singing and some spaced-out echoes. Indeed, a righteous rock and roll act must be sinister on its own by marring the contemporary FM radio station experience and enchant the listener altogether. In a nutshell, it is an eminent outing on the Small Bear Records.

Psychic Frequencies – Projecting Disorder (2014)

/Experimental electronica, Glitch ambient, Post-industrial, Electro-acoustic, Musique concrète, Avant-garde, Drone, Experimentalism, Ambient dub, Experimental techno/

Comment: it is obviously one of the best most thought-provoking techno and dub albums I have ever heard. In fact, if we think of techno or dub music I used to think of quite sterile and hermetic beats which are extracted from certain synthesised pads and embellished with synthesised overdrives. Indeed, Projecting Disorder is something of the so-called techno and dub music. Psychic Frequencies aka the collaboration act between Alistair Stray and David Clarkson used to draw on electro-acoustic ambience and raw sonic fabrics wherein the listener could perceive lots of open air around it. Of course, those are only some elements provided over the mix. For instance, Projecting Fractures is a terrain to take on rough improvisation due to flute sounds by Southeast Asia and thoroughgoing electronic experiments which in turn used to hint at the aesthetics of industrial music. Those many ambient music snippets represented throughout the course are loaded with many ghosts and other supernatural creatures. Actually it is not surprising with regard to the artists` immensely foregoing musical involvement (Alistair Stray has been involved in such acts as Raya Collective, Irritants, Radical Elsewhere, Noosign, and Inference; David Clarkson has been involved in such acts as Central Processing Unit, Illuminati, Triclops, and Whitecube). In a word, the result is mind-blowingly interesting.

Boiar – MiMinhos (2009)

/Minimal dub, Avant-garde, Crossover, Ambient dub, Techno, Experimental electronica, Noise, Electro-acoustic/

Comment: Boiar`s 6-track issue is an interesting album of diverse tendencies and intentions. At times the listener can enjoy airtight dub oscillations (Carinho com Vinho and Delicadeza a sua Alteza are the most clear-cut instances), sometimes more electro-acoustic explorations do appear. Many tracks are spiced up by overdriven acute electronic snaps. What is more, Primor no Amor is a rank crossover composition which starts off with poignant electro-acoustic developments to progress into a topsy-turvy mix of electronic noises and techno rhythms. Regalo de Estalo is another smorgasbord which embraces experiments with pitched-up and pitched-down electronic bits, hirsute white noise and glitched-out electronics and even some lustful synth pop gears and classical music glimpses. The issue involves a loads of shadowy sonic elements which might be discovered only after many listening times. Other tracks are also up to prove the artist`s bias to create fast-changing compositions with thought-provoking debris. In a nutshell, although the release contains musical elements of various kind these elements do stick together and demonstrate the artist`s ability for viable sonic synthesis.

Abstressionist – Abstression I (2009)

/Singer-songwriter, Experimental rock, DIY, Improvised music/

Comment: once upon a time there was an imprint, called Modicum Of Silence whose goal was to release music by artists from around the area of the state of Ohio. Abstressionist was one of those artists who released four more or less short-running issues. For instance, Abstression I consists of three tracks with the total time of 7.09 only. More profoundly, there are represented stalking lyrics accompanied by frayed but spaced-out guitar playing wherein mood is downright murky. Third component is air between those sections. At Abstression I (Entanglement) the artist seems to be somewhat distrait sounding as if having a concealing cover on the chords. Later on, it will disappear to bring forth more brisk chords and emotional singing. Nice effort.

Rene Kita ‎– Polkimellisuuksia (2013)

/Avant-garde, Experimentalism, Non-music, Noise, Improvised music/

Comment: it can be said Turku, Finland-based artist Rene Kita has much to say though he does not say anything in direct sense actually. Indeed, the artist`s music is exclusively made up of codas of the syllables which in turn are looped and amplified into an idiosyncratic result. At times it rings like the performance of a brown noise artist which used to be abstract and funny at the same time. Indeed, regarding that Rene Kita`s music reaches the dimension beyond contradiction and being free of a burden of theoretical bodywork. It is just a flow of sequencing loops and coincidental noises for your pleasure. Otherwise, the former is the first fractal to constitute another fractal of noise somewhere below or atop it. Indeed, they are causally related to each other though being clearly separated from each other either. It is like discovering different universes in the outer space, which, however, have had the same initial source and impulse. By kindred souls I recommend listen to such vocal artists/improvisers as Roomet Jakapi, Iris Garrelfs, Michael Schiefel, Meredith Monk.

Hico – Modus (2014)

/Folktronica, Conceptual, Experimental folk, Baroque folk, Cowbell indie, World music, Epic, Chamber folk, Art folk/

Comment: sort of a folk music within this handful of tracks presented by Hico is certainly my cup of tea. It is artsy, it is dreamy, it is crafty, it seems to be concise and bountiful at the same time. Stylistically the issue is a place for different styles to encounter on the same line and plateau. For instance, the world music motives start off to permeate from some tracks into modern electronic rhythms and panoramic orchestrations resulting in cinematic looming and build-up of full-fledged emotions. The album is partly conceptual due to deliberately crossing some instruments with one another to reach the goal (for instance, organ and ensemble, and banjo and upright bass). The result is coherent and having no scattered seeds within the course. Organ & Ensemble reminds of one of the favourites of mine, Penguin Café Orchestra with regard to light-hearted harmony blossoming and cloudless visions in sound. Furthermore, the same could be admitted about the subsequent piece Fushigi either. Of course, Hico is able of translating those enterprises into a nowadays sonic form. In a word, this excellent make-out is obviously one of the best issues I have heard in the discography of Totokoko Records (it does not mean at all that other outings of the imprint I have listened so far were somehow inferior or lame ones on its own).

Deek Hoi – The Golden Country (2007)

/Alt-folk, Indie folk, Americana, Dream folk, Psych-folk, New Weird America, Folk indie, Free folk/
Comment: I discovered this Knoxville, Tennessee, US-based combo thanks to mesmerizing 1st Borrowdeer Records compilation of involving such artists as Wooden Nickle, Samo, Forsa, Burnt Shielafante, Queens College Organs, Diacon-Panthers, Workhouse Industries, Khemo Rabbit, Leopard Meat, Fresh Cherries from Yakima, Cemetery Cemetery, Fast Money Music, Ginger Minx, Wrapping Paper, Happy Veterans Day, Chauchat, Animauled, Courtney Short, Accordion+Tetris. The miscellany embraces  a bunch of tendencies related to the New Weird America movement. Indeed, there was also represented Deek Hoi`s California which is the opening track on The Golden Country. It is pre-eminent Americana/indie folk album with hints at cosmic and dream pop. Indeed, the combo used to experiment with different forms, droning sounds and some electronic debris while upholding the album`s organic touch throughout the course. Indeed, all these songs are craftily built up resulting in striking melodies and harmonies. The lyrics are profound putting the listener think of essential things in his/her life (for instance, Dear Child; Eiea; Family Song). For instance, the latter composition makes you longing and searching for warmth and a halcyon state of mind. I suggest to shed light upon the other issues of the combo either (all the package can be found at Bandcamp). They are truly worth to be discovered again.

Max Fotheringham – Perikope (2013)

/Indie rock, Post-rock, Jazz rock, Slowcore, Ambient pop, Indietronica, Indie folk, Alternative rock, Art rock, Singer-songwriter, Folk indie/

Comment: Perikope was bundled 25 months after then Belgium-residing musician Max Fotheringham`s debut issue In All Amber (Higher Living Records). By listening to the first half of the album silent chugging might remind of A Sea And Cake`s subtle aesthetics of being somewhere between sublime indie pop and restrained post-rock and jazz rock progressions where electronic undercurrents are a little pushed backwards but still clearly presented in the blend. On the other side, we should not underestimate the influence of the so-called Duyster movement (De Portables, Styrofoam, Wixel, The Go Find, Sweek etc) in Belgium (where artists played indie music with strong influences by way of electronica, IDM and post-rock). Thirdly, the release is obviously inspired by dreamy slowcore artists (Galaxy 500, Arab Strap, Barzin, True Widow) either because MF apparently likes silence more than noise. Of course, Fotheringham`s outing might be more bedroom studio oriented because of having revealed more warming clumsiness by left and right side. However, later on, some more diverse and drowsy compositions become to appear – from piano driven ambient pop where one can perceive the artist to express soulful emotions through his voice and accentuation. At times he exploits found sounds to fill in the album with more space and intimate corners. Later on, Max Fotheringham left Belgium and arrived at Australia to form a new project entitled Amber Isles. This 10-track silent yet lightsome issue is a part of the Higher Living Records.

Vaga-Lume – Vaga-Lume EP (2015)

/Post-rock, Indie rock, Lo-fi, Alternative rock, Jazz rock, Math rock/

Comment: by listening to this duo of Catalan heritage from London, Great Britain I feel myself delighted because this set of 7 tracks being conjured up by Max Feriche and Javi Carles contains joyful post-rock progressions as if performed either in open air or recorded in the unplugged way. Furthermore, the duo used to add some gales of laughter, occasional samples of everyday and previously recorded environmental sounds to the mix. By the way, one of the pieces was recorded in the bathroom. The latter, Parece Vela (Baño) is an instant improvised excursion for simple guitar twanging, vowel induced hum and harmonica solo. All of that renders the chugging of their melting pot in a way to seem even more enjoyable and organic and seamless rather than by the case of just following only one orthodox pace. By their post-rock side the Catalans play bold post-rock progressions with some math rock and some lighter alternative rock influences. The composition Jab involves a saxophone solo played by Dudù Bongo. Amusing.

Jaroslaw Lewandowski – Overhearing (2009)

/Glitch techno, IDM, Deep techno, Experimental electronica/

Comment: although this 11-track issue could be considered an example of dance music it is actually much more than just a mere groovy vibe act. Indeed, it is based upon crunchy IDM-alike techno beats yet the Polish producer JL is handy at embellishing those rhythms with glimmering and warm synthesised vibes as if coming out of the nexus of the Earth or layers of otherworldly still life. For instance, listen to a track called Yesterday Night of being an instance of ideal pop music. These tracks just start off from nowhere to progress and manifold slowly yet consistently during the pathway. The artist`s music is about beats and intimacy wrapped up in velvety tones and enchanting predilection of thought-provoking sonic ideology. Even the most minimal and austere moments over there, for instance, 14b (Surrealizm Remix), Intro reveal their nature of being ready to ensnare their victim. In a word, it is a case of meta-techno wound up in front of the listener.

Vivian Girls - May 11, 2009 Bowery Ballroom (2009)

/Live session, Garage rock, Punk rock, Noise pop, Alternative rock, Shoegaze, Dream pop, Indie rock, Lo-fi/

Comment: If to have some words about genuine modern female musicians one should explore women within the art pop/indie pop scene throughout the last three decades. Recently I read Morrissey`s autobiography where he spots upon an early Manchester indie/post-punk scene where only The Fall`s line-up involves female musician. In fact, women involved in the indie music scene were not a self-explanatory thing at a time actually. Later on the things started to improve remarkably. One could discover such great songwriters as Kate Bush, Kirsty MacColl, Björk, and PJ Harvey, for instance. Furthermore, there are up musical groups where women played an important part – for instance, in the 80s Siouxsie Sioux and her Banshees, Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, Elisabeth Fraser from Cocteau Twins, Bilinda Butcher, and Debbie Googe from My Bloody Valentine, Emma Anderson and Miki Berenyi from Lush, Tara Vanflower from Lycia, Rachel Goswell from Slowdive, Toni Halliday from Curve, Lisa Germano, and Hope Sandoval if to name the most pre-eminent persons and musical groups. The 90s and 00s revealed innovative newcomers including Laetitia Sadier, Mary Hansen (most notably related to Stereolab), Megan White (The White Stripes), Brighton, Great Britain-based feminist art/experimental rock combo Electrelane, Pocahaunted and Best Coast. Vivian Girls was a Brooklyn-based trio who started off in 2007 and went on hiatus in 2014. In the meanwhile they issued three albums and had toured worldwide. Their music is a visceral blend of noise pop, feedback loaded punk, and dreamy female vocal driven enthralment. This 14-track gig was performed some months before issuing the combo`s sophomore album. Indeed, the performance used to fill in a good overview about their sound and dexterity to merge straightforward noise flows with hazy subtleties coming out of a vocal mannerism and catchy melodies. Although it could be said the trio`s permanent shift is somewhere between post-punk and shoegazing one can actually hear more artsy influences and drifts thereby reminding of Electrelane as a kindred soul sometimes. They bring forth lots of energy, charm, and verve for your pleasure. Amazing gig by any means.

ÆTHER GENERATOR – GHETTO PLASMA BLASTER (2014)

/Experimental electronica, Abstract, Minimal dub, Avant-garde, Kraut-techno, Drone, Microtonal/

Comment: I do not know what exactly does it mean “ghetto plasma blaster” regarding its functionality and purpose. However, musically it is an impressive set of 10 tracks composed of droning noises, low bass frequencies, bass-heavy rhythms and spaced-out electronic chaos often amplified by dub music-like reverberations and echoes bringing forth some very deep sound layers from the bottom. These elements constitute different combinations within the compartment of electronic music. At times there are up more light-hearted moods supported by glockenspiel chords (888 Stone Steps To The Top). Barry Leaman and Steve Meltzer have done good job because all the aforementioned elements are craftily interwoven with each other and thereby providing no gaps for boredom and nonsense. Although the issue has been released in 2014 it could have been a part of emerging electronic music scene for some decades ago due to its timeless touch and dexterity and unconnectedness to human related aspects. The release is a piece of the discography of an interesting and diverse music label, called 2419 Record Label.

MC Melodee - Crunch Time EP (2014)

/Hip-hop, Urban music, Rap, Soul-hop, Nu jazz, Gangsta rap/

Comment: my first impression about this handful of tracks was not very enthusiastic because all of that seemed to be way too straightforward and simplified regarding the production and configuration. Actually it was a quite unusual experience to listen to gangsta-inflected music dominated by a female musician from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. However, this bunch needs more listening times to open up its nature and surface its merits. The listener can discern sublime soul and jazz music debris below the rhymes and chants fattening up your soul and mind. MC Melodee is helped by the likes of Cookin`Soul, Robbie Anthem, Feliciana and D-Luzion, BuddahSPK, Brady James, and Like of Pac Div).

Post Human Era – Help, I Invented The Internet (2012)

/Electro-indie, Alternative pop, Poptronica, Epic, Art pop, Indie pop, Remix, Americana/

Comment: Daniel and Michael Finfer aka Post Human Era`s 7-track/12-track issue embarks on catchy yet sublime, even epic melody and harmony progressions at Supplies which will continue in next compositions in a similar way. More profoundly, it is the electro-indie/pop issue with bold Americana influences ultimately surfacing the talent of the Finfers. Great singing and arrangements behind it are set to establish the overwhelming punch. Maybe you will find out some similarities with such Americana and experimental pop/rock moulded artists as Magnetic Fields, Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, and His Name Is Alive, however, the members of Post Human Era used to bring forth their own idiosyncratic concept and vision. The album will be finished off by a remix version of Glowbug about Building The Machine. The issue is a part of the legendary Moscow-based cult label Clinical Archives (I am still waiting for new issues under the imprint). I recommend listen to other issues by the combo and its related acts as Ancient Lasers, and Glowbug.

Benjamin Dauer & Specta Ciera - Traced in Sand (2014)

/Ambient, Soundscape, Abstract, Modern classical, Experimental electronica, Crossover/

Comment: Traced in Sand is a collaborative issue between Benjamin Dauer, and Devin Underwood aka Specta Ciera. The most general adjective which could be ascribed to the issue is deep. More profoundly, these six tracks used to converge at a crossroad of ambient, classical, experimental electronica, glitched-out minimal rhythms and more tectonic, dub music-alike overthrows, however, being tightly interwoven with one another frequently. On the other side, which is deep it might also be picturesque and arousing – Dauer, and Underwood did it. The finishing track Over the Coastline chimes like a borderline between more abstract, hyper-realistic and recognized sounds, however, presenting barely audible sonic effects throughout the course. The launching track Ice Train depicts a post-apocalyptic world saturated with radioactive vapour and bleak terrains. Indeed, these are good examples about minimally tonal yet highly emotive electronic music. In overall, it is like your own life where exciting moments used to happen to force back general ennui and drabness. The issue is a part of the discography of Glaswgow-based imprint Distance Recordings.

Edge of October – Collapse (2008)

/Dark ambient, Minimalism, Avant-garde, Dystopbient, Experimentalism, Conceptual, Drone, Neoclassical, Post-industrial, Space music/

Comment: Jeff Zvorak aka Edge of October`s 7-piece issue is motivated due to his bad mental condition which is clearly audible in these compositions. It is thoroughly dark, creepy, and stalking produced to document different phases of the course of the disease of him. Furthermore, it is a honest issue by its possible premise to help other people as well who are suffering from depression (of course, it is not the first album being presented as a medicine - for instance, I can remember for Spiritualized`s Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Flaoting In Space, 1997, Dedicated). I shall have to confess that music helps finely against the disease – paradoxically dark-hued music does have the most effective power to realize it. More profoundly, subdued atmospheric drone progressions used to permeate through the soundscape which in turn consists of some metallic clatters, barely audible murmurs, pitch-shifted effects in the middle of templates, some reflections of concrete music all of that being wrapped up in impenetrable, sinister vapour. At times the aforementioned fogginess has been managed to an extent that Zvorak`s soundscape could be considered an example of space music (for instance, Iatrogenesis; Resurrecting Old Ghosts). Ultimately I have to concede it is both emotionally and artistically an eminent issue.

/Krautrock, Experimentalism, Electronic, Plunderphonics, Art rock, Avant-garde, Experimental rock, Improvised music, Free jazz, Psychedelic, Freeformfreakout, Avant-rock, Sampledelic, Dada music/

Comment: Ups and Downs is the follow-up to Cardboard Rebellion (2015) by the Russian combo Third Mind Movement regarding a similar ideological and aesthetical approach. The issue consists of 4 lengthy compositions which used to be highly fragmented by having dodges in different directions from free form based rock and free jazz and motorik krautrock propulsions to old sample based snippets and uncanny overdriven sonic templates and gravitation-free psychedelic madness. Ultimately it could be admitted the intention of the issue is to reshuffle the consciousness of the listener by sequencing and crossing logical and illogical elements with one another. By exploring the roster of Third Mind Movement you can discover some weird names within the 9-bar list. For instance, you can find such names as Arsenic Strychnine, Dima Noise, Nikita Overstillwater etc. Hopefully, these 40 minutes represented over there are not an effect of hangover after an intake of strychnine. It is a bewitching result by any means. The release is a part of the experimental/dada/avant-garde imprint suRRIsm-Phonoethics.

SoulSonic - Things That Connect Us (2013)

/Indie rock, Post-punk, Electro-indie, Alternative pop, Ambient rock, Post-rock, Shoegazetronica, Mood music, Ethereal wave/

Comment: SoulSonic is an artist from Lithuania whose 10-bar issue is a blend of picturesque guitar paintings, crispy electronic rhythms and beatific orchestrations. It can be said SoulSonic`s music is more about to create affective milieu rather than revealing intention to establish something artistically groundbreaking. Indeed, the whole sounds like a smooth jazz/fusion version produced with guitars and electronics. It seems the artist`s goal is to reach a sublime state of mind throughout the course rather than having spot on particular sonic inventions. However, despite there are up hints to almost all styles being connected to “alternative music” throughout the last four decades. The favourite of mine is Gentle Touch due to the spaced-out, longing guitar chord based extensions and highly catchy pattern within it. By continuing the Lithuanian connection I recommend listen to such combos as Picturesque Episodes, and mmpsuf.

Mononomoooto - 架空の洞 (2014)

/Electronic, Mood music, Abstract, Experimentalism/

Comment: I am a little confused by listening to this handful of tracks. In fact, I feel I am not able to describe it, to envelope it, to catch it, to pin it. Of course, I hear lots of sounds pouring out of there but what is the genuine intention of these sounds for me is quite puzzling to explain. However, I perceive quite simplistic, amateurish rhythms which are either adorned with subtle drones or softened chords or half spaced-out synth progressions above thereby providing powerful and poignant contrast for me. At tmes The point of mine is this is a quite mysterious issue for me maybe it would be better not to deconstruct it. Just listen to the sequence and combinations of the sounds represented over there. The result of it does not dependent on the subjective opinion of a critic it does live its own life.

Comment: CJ Lavoire is the nom de plume of Rome, Italy-based composer Valerio Franchi and the current track The First Of The Year comes out of his self-released issue Jump. Indeed, there is up just one though, lengthy six and half minute track. The issue involves brisk rhythms mixed up with some sonic effects and a guitar sustained part. All these elements are subordinated to the catchy melody line which is soft and slightly exotic and sultry on its own. The composition is the second one in the discography of Bad Panda Records. In a nutshell, are you ready to enjoy a solid pop ditty?

Radikal Satan - El Incendio Que Se Llevó A La Ciudad (2012)

/Dark pop, Neoclassical, Gothic pop, Musique concrète, Leftfield, Art pop, Experimental pop, Darkwave, Tango, Avant-pop/

Comment: Radikal Satan is the project of César Amarante, and Mauricio Amarante whose 11-track issue reflects upon their cultural backdrops being related to Argentina, France, and New York. The bunch has been managed in a way to bring forth elaborate, dark-hued pop songs with many threads of tango twists, gothic synthesised upper templates, vivid guitar chords, and Parisian street sounds based on lofty accordion sounds. At times these notches of the sonic backbone are variegated with mixed warped spoken word snippets and concrete sounds (for instance, Exilio en el Exilio) or songs are saturated with excruciated, psychotic vocal deliveries. And those half-orchestrated noises and ominous progressions surfacing here and there used to hit your conscious mind. Behind those visible figures you could perceive shades coming out from the other side and on the other side it arouses your brain to cast aside the control over your unconscious mind. However, the issue is saturated with more elements than discovered above. Yesterday I reviewed Faerùn`s album The Night (2013, Test Tube) which provides a quite similar approach both ideologically and sonically because of recruiting an avant-garde sonic palette to exert it for creating music in conjunction with pop songs formulas. Similarly, both albums are murkily full-fledged yet somehow recognizable and intimate ones. In a word, the output is both intimidating and mesmerizing. Call me morbid, call me pale but I feel myself totally satisfied.

Faerùn – The Night (2014)

/Indietronica, Space rock, Experimental electronica, Hauntology, Crossover, Avant-pop, Dark ambient, Dark wave, Sampledelic, Experimental pop, Musique concrète, Spoken word, Leftfield, Art pop/

Comment: it is great honour to arrive at the album list of Test Tube. Indeed, there is no reason to feel yourself disappointed at all by listening to Barcelona, Catalonia residing Marius Miron aka Faerùn`s bunch of handful of pieces. The issue starts off with Dusk, the poem of Robin Rimbaud where a presumably experimental sound package is masterfully subordinated to an independent music algorithm. The track chimes like a less pop appeal drenched version of the Cranberries now and then in the second part. The same could be said about the finishing track Ndasi where slightly undulating synth-induced drones are accompanied by a dynamic rhythm and mind affecting vocal samples. Emotionally the most crushing and orgasmic piece is Hanako which involves the raping sounds, sighs of a man and weeping of a woman hinting at the crimes of Japanese soldiers during the WW II. Room 3327 is a haunting hybrid of space rock and minimally pulsating electronica adorned with radio waves and spoken word snippets dedicated to Nikola Tesla, the true genius within the physics field. If you are searching for some analogue examples within the experimental pop scene then the oeuvre of Broadcast might resemble of that span of 28 minutes. In a word, it is obviously one of the best (leftfield) pop albums issued in 2014.

Donquièstar – Cellphone Somewhere (2014)

/Electronic music, Minimal synth, Alternative dance, EBM, Industrial, Synthwave, Dark pop, Coldwave/

Comment: Donuiéstar is an artist from Brussels, Belgium whose 3-bar issue is hinged on his compatriots` glorious coldwave, EBM and minimal synth tradition harking back to the end of the 70s/beginning of the 80s, though the musician presents it in a more contemporary and diversified form. It is filled with brisk yet chill synth hooks being in turn boosted up with murky industrial music and hollow dark wave/goth fuelled reverberations thereby giving possibility for more detailed elements and minutiae to be surfaced. For instance, the opener Dark Wonder is about to bristle with a ring reminiscent of mechanical sound of the movie camera. It could say these solid compositions are composed to arouse your sensations in your soul and set up your body to take on nervous dance-alike movements. Of course, the listener should take care of to discern subtle relation between the main lines and their subsidiary ones. Additionally, let`s discover the music on the Teque-Nique imprint.
