Poon. Poon? Poon keda? Poon mida? Poon millega? Poon millal? Poptroonika vaimselt mandunutele. Inferioorsus. Inferno. Elutus, viljatus, klišeelikkus, artistlikkuse puudumine, hapnikupuudusesse produtseerimine. Poon'i 16-looline (Trash Can Dance'i kassettversioon sisaldab kahtekümmet lugu, st nelja lisalugu) album kõlab kui vastumürk sellele. See on puhastav kogemus loomerõõmust, loomise protsessist ja väljalastud esteetilisest purakast. Salvestatud kitarri, harmooniumi, taldrikute-pottidega.

Üllitised on kvaliteetsed; on asjassepuutuvad tänaseni. Aastaid kümme tagasi plaanis üks avangardistlik Eesti rokkansambel oma plaadi Test Tube'i all avaldada – solist küsis veel mult nõu. Plaaniks see jäigi. See selleks. Selle kolmeloolise albumi võlu – mille taga on Vene artist Yara – seisneb eesmise-tagumise fragmenteerituses. Justkui eraldi kulgevad helikihid (vokaalsämplid, konkreethelid, argitoimetuste kolinad-saginad; teisalt struktureeritud pulseerimine-rütmilisus), mis ometigi sulanduvad häirimatult kokku. Võib-olla "ometigi" on kohatu, kuna eelpoolmainitet elementide vastandlikkus kätkeb endas üllitist kandvat dünaamikat.

Lisaks meenub sellega seoses üks veider kidraeksperimentidel põhinev album kahe dekaadi tagant – Tore Elgarøy "The Sound Of The Sun" (2001, Rune Grammofon). "Escapamento Mental" on väga hea – iga korraga kasvab see suuremaks ja pöörasemaks nagu kontrolli alt väljunud tulekahi. Selleks, et seda 4-loolist saada, peate alla laadima kogu LFC diskograafia (nimelt Lucas on kogu oma muusika pistnud ühte virtuaalpakendisse. Segane!).

Mutate – No One In The Mirror (2012)

  • Post-industrial
  • Ambient
  • Abstract
  • Micronoise
  • Avant-garde

First of all, I would like to thank the players of Montréal Canadiens for their brave fight against Philadelphia Flyers. By following the series from the second game on one could see how the players from Philly had truly frightened looks due to Habs' energetic avalanche over them. Such a pity in twofold, firstly, if to express in terms of the logic of another language the success of Flyers in the beginning of the game 6 was just based on bounces through the arses of Habs' players and secondly, how many wasted moments on very unfortunate stick handling in front of Flyers' goalie Hart. However, the overall picture was very good even without Brendan Gallagher, true fighter who had made a spectacular performance in the game 5. It was just a bit more than sport and hockey. Good recovery, Brendan, the rest bunch of players and Claude Julien. Habs' fan since the end of the 80s.
Before starting listening to Mutate's 5-notch issue I was listening to another Montréal pride GYBE's 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend! (2012) which tuned me in due galvanized noisy guitar walls and stepwise dynamic gears hovering up to sublime orchestrated music. However, Mutate's issue is a bit different based either on the abstract hisses of post-industrial and otherwise on sustained guitar chords, similarly to GY!BE's album embellished with concrete sounds and accidental stream of (sub)consciousness/hypnosis. This profound comes out of the discography of Black Square.

Asemele tuli chillwave, toonaste lo-fi elektroonikat armastavate noorte arusaam dream pop'st. Olulist osa selle esilekerkimises mängis Prantsusmaa võrguleibel Beko DSL, mis esimesel kahel aastal iga nädal üllitas peamiselt kaheloolisi singleid sellistelt kollektiividelt –  kui nimetada vaid tuntumad – nagu Memoryhouse (kelle lood pooles ulatuses ühtisid imetabase The Years EP'ga aastal 2010), The Bilinda Butchers, Wonder Wheel, The KVB, Ela Orleans, Death And Vanilla, Sore Eros, The Dreams, kellest nii mõnedki jõudsid suurema publikuni. Kohe alguses reliis juhatab kuulaja "valele" rajale autsaiderhausiga (7777.8888). Kuulates lugu God Helmet tuleb chillwave-valemi sisse lisaks dream pop'le lisada drone pop (mida siinkirjutaja on enamikel juhtudel täiendanud stiililaiendusega organcore). Hea (pop)albumi eelduseks on mõistlik kogus transgressiivsust, et mängida erinevate ideede, fantaasiate ja helidega optimaalsetes piirides (piirid paratamatult loovad-mõtestavad fenomeni). Siin on piirid, siin on salajast piiride ületamist, siin on lahutamatult arenguid ja kordamise maagiat; seetõttu on selles dünaamilist essentsi ja lummavat muusikalist tähendust.

Drunken C – Whisper (2012)

  • Post-punk
  • Singer-songwriter
  • Cover
  • Alternative rock
  • Indie rock
  • Gothic rock
  • Deathrock

Comment: first of all, this album of handful of tracks is adorned with a fabulous cover print depicting a girl being embellished with a snake tattoo and obviously following a (Neo-)Pagan religion. It may be the girl depicted on the cover print is Cécile Raynaud who is one and the only behind this project. She has issued a couple of EPs under the Paris-based Zorch Factory Records. One of them is Whisper which showcases her ability to pull out convincing goth and desert-inspired compositions with galvanised guitar pounding and tortured appeal of singing. Her timbre and singing manner and (prepared) guitar signature remind of Kim Gordon, and Sonic Youth, respectively. In general, Whisper can be considered an exquisite bridge (or outlet) between the Francophone-centered coldwave and a more experimental approach. One track is her take on a My Bloody Valentine`s classic, Only Shallow by adding more electronic effects to the classic of sliding guitars played through a keyboard/sampler input. In a word, it is an example of truly convincing girl power, i.e without any childish postures and numb clichès.

Pogohm ‎– Raptor Jesus (2012)

  • Electronic music
  • Alternative dance
  • Lo-fi
  • DIY
  • Eurobeat
  • Vaporwave
  • Breaks
  • Trance

Comment: behind Pogohm is a French musician Arnaud Barbe who is better known and being more prolific behind a nom de plume, Pollux. He leads also an imprint, Sirona-Records, and the recent 5-notch outing is also a part of it. If someone asks for the point of Pogohm and difference between the two aliases then the first thread one can hear coming out of Raptor Jesus is an appealing VHS quality embracing all the sound. A second characteristic is a cheesy rhythmic sound being something between Eurobeat, and German trance. Given that Arnaud Barbe's profound experiments with ambient and electronic music as Pollux one may see it as a Barbe's guilty pleasure or seedy self-indulgence, however, despite its simplistic rhythms it chimes in an alien way coming close to Vaporwave sound. In a word, it is an enjoyable experience full of bittersweet nostalgia and passed times. Nice shit making your day.

Guilty Strangers – Oracle (2012)

  • Post-punk
  • Deathrock
  • Gothic rock
  • Alternative rock
  • Experimental rock
  • Avant-rock
  • Art rock

Comment: this bunch of 10 tracks comes out of the discography of Zorch Factory, now defunct imprint dedicated to post-punk and its a bit darker derivatives like gothic rock and coldwave. The latter one was initially related to French-speaking regions like France and Wallonia. It is not surprising because Zorch Factory Records was a French one. However, not all bands were the aforementioned regions related, like Guilty Strangers hailing from San Antonio, Texas, USA. Yeah, the release is about the gothic yet it is different at most times from the UK-based gothic juggernauts due to deathrock influences thereby resulting in more fast paced and galvanized songs. However, female singing and high registered yearning and cellophane-alike guitars bring in mind Siouxsie and the Banshees unintentionally. At Snake one can partake in slowed-down ragged incantations based on the improvisations of a staccato guitar. In any cases, the second part of the issue embraces more sonic experiments and unusual tempo signatures and song structures. The album includes witty one-liners and dark theme considerations like violence, (ancestral) sin, weird dreams. All in all, it is thoroughly good.

Dereleech – Deadspace (2012)

  • Ambient drone
  • Drone doom metal
  • Avant-metal
  • Minimalism
  • Dark ambient
  • Dystopbient

Comment: we are living at the time of stupidity and degeneration, we are dealing with pseudo-concerns and excessively evaluating political correctness instead of dealing with the real facts and concerns which in reality create even more inequality and madness and misunderstanding as a result. Every sort of buffoonish social and psychological experiments and formal and informal prescriptions for behaviour have all but healthy outcome – one of the results is that the people of Hungary and Poland have chosen the different way and some other countries are also on the road to right in the EU. The United States also did it and obviously will be keeping the same pace after the 2020 election. The population in many countries is hopelessly divided and full of hatred of each other. One can operate with such empty words and terms like "post-truth" today though which does not have no value in terms of history and politics (because the twisting of truth has been a favourite deed from the beginning of times). The situation is simultaneously ridiculous and ominous and because of that it may be sober to get into such sort of music like the Finnish artist Dereleech's Deadspace. The music which veers away from solemn yet ghastly ambient and suggestively vibrant droning to overwhelmingly powerful drone doom black metal. It is free from inferior spasmodic and hectic leaps, it is all about a stubborn, logical progression both on the structure and emotive side. Could you see a light at the end of tunnel?

Vincent DeVine – Wer von fernen Menschen träumt (2012)

  • Digital hardcore
  • Cybergrind
  • Electronic music
  • Spoken word
  • Cover

Comment: this batch of 13 tracks (clocking in at a 24 minute) can be interpreted differently. Given that the lyrics are in German and the music is highly intense and energetic this can be interpreted as the world view of an average German who is born after the WW II being imbued with shame and angriness and anxiety. However, for German culture and for all of us in general it would turn out as a positive consequence thanks to the appearance of Karlheinz Stockhausen, and krautrock. The first of them showed how the recording and studio technique must be employed for future poppy and artsy juggernauts like The Beatles, Pink Floyd and the latter as a liberatory artsy sonic movement to have influenced post-punk, ambient, electronic music, hip-hop and indie music. For instance, the alien-alike aesthetic of Kraftwerk did provide an outlet for oppressed afro-Americans to take a next step forward. However, it seems to me Vincent DeVine has produced the album with tongue-in-cheek attitude as well because it is exaggerated in lyrics and sound and shouting singing through unexpected yet funny samples. In a word, the intention of an artist can not be underestimated. At times it is deliberately kitschy and campy, but it can be taken seriously only with humour and fun. Otherwise it may be as bad as shit. Moreover, some clichés are fixed to blow them to a ridiculous extent. It may be as punk as your granny behind the bongos. This wild ride is a part of the French imprint Sirona-Records.

Càtodo Dùo – Al Tiro (2012)

  • Improvised music
  • Avant-garde
  • Live
  • Experimentalism
  • Electro-acoustic

Comment: Amanda Irraràzabal (double bass), Ramiro Molina (electric guitar) aka Càtodo Dùo´s music first appeared at RMH some months ago when I wrote about their sophomoric issue Sizigias. Let's have the conversation introspectively. The debut album was different due the scope of instrumentation, the debut one was without analogue synths (played later by Amanda Irrarràzabal) by resulting in more dry timbres, suppressed noises and clanging and fewer electronic effects. However, it is an intriguing 36-minute improvised collaboration between Chile, and Argentina. If they meet once in a while it will result in music. Given that one does have enough attention in music and inclined to jazz and improvised glass bead game. The 2-track composition was recorded live on June 3rd, 2012 at Piso 3, Santiago De Chile. Similarly to the second issue the debut album was also recorded on Pan Y Rosas Discos, an imprint from Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Pseudomantis – Fall (2012)

  • Electronic music
  • Avant-garde
  • Experimental electronica
  • Dark wave
  • Minimalism
  • Dark ambient
  • Post-industrial

Comment: this issue of just consisting of one extended, 32-minute composition starts off with halting effects and rusty echoes in the vein of rough and a little bit lobit electronic music which later on keeps steadily its pace formally minimal by employing a bit changes in the middle of ascending darkened ambient/dark wave flames. Since at a point the listener can hear twofold progressions, respectively. The course could get ever better (read: sinister) since then. Many ominous shades creeping from one's possible horrendous past and searching for a chance to overcome him. Time to live, time to die. And time to haunt thereafter. The impressively expressive issue is a part of the discography of Drill Records.

Art Electronix – Loop Constructor (2012)

  • Tech-house
  • Techno
  • Electronic music
  • Club dance
  • Alternative dance

Comment: behind the Ukraine-based combo Art Electronix are a woman, and a man who have evaluated such values as constant search of original sounding, development of art performances and live concerts, experimental quality music production, and many other art forms. Indeed, the duo has been truly prolific over the years by issuing more than 50 outings so far. This 3-notch issue comes out of such an imprint as Nanoloopsis and showcasing the Ukrainians' inclination toward techno and near techno rhythms. The latter category does mean techno cadences are mingled with electro, dub and house oscillations. In a nutshell, these 12 and a half minute constitute a substantial experience.

Erik Blood – Touch Screens (2012)

  • Noise pop
  • Indie dance
  • Alternative rock
  • Alternative dance
  • Shoegaze
  • Electronic
  • Dream pop
  • Indie rock
  • Cinematic
  • Nugaze

Comment: although I have criticized the so-called nugaze artists I have to admit while listening to these artists I like their music. However, thereafter I forgot what I had been listening because there is a little to be evaluated on its own. Of course, there have been some artists and some albums I used to bring once in a while. For instance, Dykehouse`s Midrange (2004, Ghostly International), and Sereena Maneesh`s self-titled debut album (2005, HoneyMilk). One can find out elements from both of these albums on this Seattle, US-based artist. Dykehouse`s dance-appealed electronic grooves and Sereena Maneesh`s noisy yet truly beatific impulses. Furthermore, beatific because of being noisy first of all. From the first seconds and glimpses at the cover print and lyrics the 12-track is as provocative as suggestive as mind-blowing. Are these sexy dreams or dreamy sex? All this theme to be set aside – to move away from the carnal one to a heaven one – can also hear cinematic orchestrations. I like Erik Blood is being adept to float off from obvious comparisons with My Bloody Valentine, and other shoegaze juggernauts. His musical cognition seems to be a bit different. In a word, it can be considered a nugaze masterpiece.

Indigenous Peoples – Life Is Life Is (2012)

  • Drone
  • Lo-fi
  • Avant-garde
  • Ambient
  • Avant-rock
  • Chillwave
  • Psych-rock
  • Experimentalism
  • Improvised music
  • DIY

Comment: the artist's 11-track outing is intense through different sonic aspects and creative playfulness. It starts off and at times comes back to a reverberant droning as if trudging through muddy soil, at times it is based on galvanized guitar playing and improvisations, at times providing majestic inclinations through ambient music, and most surprisingly, through a stupendously suggestive dream pop/chillwave-esque ray through its bottomless haziness. Although the latter element is represented as bare as a glimpse it will make up a contrast in one's mind and memory. Slightly simple iterative motives are mingled with more complicated endeavours and transgressive progressions. There is no premature fixing of style at all. With purpose to show this release as a true lavish one it should not be misunderstood as a superficial approach. All those droning facets create a milieu and impression as something truly obsessive. Indeed, we need it within and through music.

Davic Nod – Do You Remember Me? (2012)

  • Trip-hop
  • Electronic music
  • Hip-hop
  • Dub techno
  • Experimental hip-hop
  • Industrial hip-hop
  • Avant-hop
  • Crossover
  • Noise-hop

Comment: this 4-track issue starts off with industrial noises and hisses to come out and get into sultry dub vibes. However, this multifaceted outing being released on Mùsica Vermella just embarks on showing up its potent and power. One can hear Tricky's Pre-Millennium Tension-alike ominous twists and later more industrial music soaked hip-hop madness like Death Grips, and Dälek used to bring us to get along with it. At times one can partake in a sexually arousing female singing and sighs being backed up by delicate electronic progressions, and galvanized, noise drenched apocalyptic male singing. Lots of exquisite beats, unexpected breaks, impelling twists and managed madness to walk on air. Yeah, it is an impressive experimental hip-hop/trip-hop/dub issue one could vibe on it for real.

Nevesis – Nevesis (2012)

  • Hard rock
  • Stoner rock
  • Space rock
  • Progressive rock

Comment: Nevesis is a combo from Paide, a small town from Estonia. However, their debut issue is something which does not admit any borders or signs of smallness. OK, they bear testimony to the golden age of hard rock and early heavy metal, and stoner rock grooves, however, it is not either a parody or a lacklustre and boring imitation of the aforementioned styles. This 9-notch release is full of power due to explosive fuel and igniting energy coming out of permanent key changes and the singer's impressive changes in singing manner. Yeah, guitars and their based solos and stomping drums are omnipresent throughout the course. The most disparate track (at least its intro) is Lysergic Dreams which is a highly powerful space rock case. Five years later, the sophomore issue called Pink Magnet Masters was released. In a nutshell, it is an astounding rock and roll instance at its best.

Visciera – Six Bits Of Black Broken Glass (2012)

  • Industrial rock
  • EBM
  • Alternative
  • Electronic
  • Synth-pop
  • Experimental electronica

Comment: as you have already figured out the title of this 6-track issue suggests both irony and desperation, humor and painful experiences, love and hopelessness, aggressiveness and humbleness. By considering the issue's cybernetic, industrial-imbued and machine-bent threads the question could be about the relationship between a human being, and a machine. Is the machine controlled by the human being, or vice versa? As you can see from the question and accents related to it the control is that the most important aspect which regulates our everyday's life between the groups, and how much the machines should be subjugated to the human being as a species? Earlier it was an urgent question about the relationship between the human race and nature. It seems that Florian Cziesla tries to find out a fine balance between the aforementioned compartments, between the touch, and determination. More profoundly, you can hear compositions from exquisite EBM-drenched synth pop and solid industrial rock to a stylistically pure EBM example with the lyrics of pessimistic allusions to downright noisy dead ends shedding no light and hope anymore. The solid issue is a part of the discography of Headphonica.

Shokushu – Reverberations Of The World (2012)

  • Electronic music
  • Alternative
  • Chilltronica
  • Mood music
  • Kosmische Musik
  • New Wave
  • Ambient
  • Krautrock
  • Musique concrète
  • Organic electronica

Comment: these 26 minutes to be embedded in eight tracks create different moods through bubbling electronic explorations and serene chill explorations. But not only – you can hear an even more technical approach to it – a track called Brainforest chimes like being created by someone from the so-called German Kling-Klang mindset. At the same time it is wrapped up by organic, true sounds yet as the result it is as if coming from an insular, paradisiacal area inhabited by beautiful and sensual people having no idea about self-destructive shit and stupidity of the rest of the world. And the course goes on and on except the sounds of the Kosmische Musik to be added to the mix, especially sultry and spaced-out imbued parallel universes reminding of Tangerine Dream. At times those halcyon ambiances are interfered with (un)expected incisive, acid throwing synthesisers. The enchanting release is a part of a prolific French imprint, Sirona-Records led by Arnaud Barbe aka Pollux.

Radio for the Daydreamers – Denouement (2012)

  • Indie pop/rock
  • Art pop/rock
  • Folk indie
  • Alternative pop/rock
  • Crossover
  • Indie folk
  • Jazz
  • Space pop

Comment: I have been watching like many of you the World Championship of Football In Russia. While being a big sport fan since my very childhood I shall have to admit my relation and attitude toward the sport has been changed over the years. Let`s take a good extraction about it in comparison to the art (music, literature, visual art, motion picture). My relation to the art is based on partaking in art by enjoying it, by actualising it, by creating a value/virtue. Indeed, the art refracts your life because it is frequently bigger than the life and always it is more ennobling and powerful. My relation to the sport is simply affective, it is not based on creating a real value and virtue. It is just an obsession or a psychosomatic trace in my brain. Furthermore, given that by following medical terms I would like to add that football seems to be a highly autistic act. An event of the sport used to have a bare, confined value at a time while you are watching it. It does have no value later. I guess there is no value altogether on its own if someone would be watching the competition between Columbia-England, on July 03, 2018 some years later, for instance. It will change into a mere historical fact but it is not an event anymore. Because of that all kinds of the art used to be more superior on their own. There are many other aspects else to be added to this list (for instance, regarding monetary, financial aspects the gap between them could be even more catastrophic). I am here to always listen to the albums of the The Smiths, Cagey House, My Bloody Valentine, The Fucked Up Beat, Tim Hecker, The Fall, Miles Davis, Stereolab, Cocteau Twins, CAN, Faust, GYBE!, Kraftwerk or read the poems by Edgar Allan Poe, William Somerset Maugham, or H. P. Lovecraft or whoever else (but I do not really care of sport events being happened 5, 10, 20 years ago). It certainly broadens your mental and psychic world instead of playing on your mean instincts. Given that the music is a part of the art, it may be the most layered art with regard to discrete experience by a person because one could always discover new aspects distinctly and in accordance with the previous immense vestige. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US-based Radio for the Daydreamers is over there to cope with this immense vestige. Denoument as a word and as the title of the album refers to a problematic process. The result would come out as a coherent and convincing one, though, yet you could pin down the problematic aspect within it. It is a premise of how to integrate indie and jazz into a vivid, self-perpetuating whole while doing away with any exaggerations and overstatements. The issue is a part of the discography of Black Square. In a word, the value of this issue is certainly more worth than the victory of the Stanley Cup in the combo`s home city. Ars longa, ludus brevis.
