Monolog – Rockstar Heaven (2014)

  • Sophisti-pop
  • New wave
  • Soul
  • Soft rock
  • Chamber pop
  • Electronic
  • Art pop

Teisisõnu, pealtnäha lihtne – nagu käesolev 8-looline album Humanworkshop`i all – võib ilmneda mitmetahulise ja mitmedimensioonilisena.

“Twin Peaks`is” oli meeleolukas episood, kus kaks palgamõrvarit olmetüli käigus ühe suva jorsi poolt tänaval auklikuks lasti. Sitaks hea.

Greg Houwer – Sauna Planet (2010)

  • Indie pop/rock
  • Lo-fi
  • Singer-songwriter
  • Art rock
  • Alternative pop/rock
  • Pop rock
  • DIY

Samas nende diskograafia sisaldab palju head muusikat. Alati tasub vana muusika manu pöörduda ja perrä kaeda. Antwerpen'is resideeruv Greg Houwer on üllitanud nimetet plaadifirma all kaks albumit - "Sauna Planet" oli järjekorras number kaks. Vaatasin, et artist üllitas neli kuud tagasi uue albumi – on leitav Bandcamp'ist.

Hinterheim – Media Blackout (2019)

  • Post-rock
  • Drone
  • Avant-rock
  • Abstract
  • Experimental rock

See on kunati. Võib ju võrrelda tema mitmekesist eksperimentaalset loomingut Constellation Records`i artistidega – nt Godspeed You! Black Emperor`i esimeste albumitega pärast kümneaastaselt pausilt naasmist, aga peamise sugulushingena tooksin siiski välja Natural Snow Buildings`i, Prantsuse duo.

CACHETTE A BRANLETTE – CACHETTE A BRANLETTE (2013)

  • Synth-pop
  • Avant-garde
  • Krautrock
  • Outsider pop
  • Minimal synth
  • Electronic music
  • DIY
  • Weird pop
  • Singer-songwriter
  • Synth-punk
  • Lo-fi
  • Synthwave
  • Kosmische Musik
  • Experimentalism
  • Art punk

Prantsuse muusiku Florian Steiner'i kimbatust tekitava nimega album – on see siis lakooniliselt omanimeline või hoopis "(none given)" – anti algselt välja Los Emes Del Oso-nimelise eksperimentaal- ja veidrat muusikat üllitava netileibeli all kaheksa aasta eest. Salvestatuna algselt kassettmakile (ning digitaalsele lisaks üllitatud kassettlindil väikeses tiraažis) on selle kaheksaloolise üllitise stilistiline diapasoon üsna lai – külmades toonides minimalistlikust sündimuusikast ning haaravast psühhedeelsest süntpopist nurgelise ja kriiskava süntpungini a la Suicide ja The Cardboards ning sergegainsbourgilike kaemusteni lo-fi võtmes ning keeruliste krautrokk(al)keemiliste kaemusteni a la Conrad Schnitzler'i ja Asmus Tietchens'i sooloalbumid. Eks neid žanrilisi varjundeid on teisigi.

Artist ei tee saladust, et on mõjutatud mõjuvõimsa Montréal'i leibeli Constellation Records'i artistidest. Omalt poolt lisaksin artisti kaasmaalaste Natural Snow Buildings'i imetabased maastikud.

Origami Repetika – Happy Puppy Collection (2021)

  • Synth-pop
  • Electronic pop
  • Art pop
  • Chiptune
  • Easy listening
  • Alternative pop
  • Electro pop

Kolm Adam Sigmund'i keskperioodi üllitist (2011-2013) Happy Puppy Records'i all ühte kausta pakitult, mis erinevad üsna tema praegusest hoiakust. Kergelt elektropopilik glasuur servi katmas, mis õrnalt kriimustab ja irriteerib; meenutab seetõttu mõneti teist tolleaegset väljapaistvat artisti Dave Keifer'it ehk Cagey House'i.

Ent see mängulisus kannab igati välja – see on loodud ilma kõhklusteta. Õnneks kaasajal on sahinad-kahinad niikuinii legitimeeritud. Üllitaja on Ibeeria poolsaare väiksema riigi oluline plaadifirma Enoughrecords.

The Space Lady aka Suzy Soundz – Street-level Superstar (Owed to Boston) (2004)

  • Singer-songwriter
  • DIY
  • Lo-fi
  • Art pop
  • Latin pop
  • Psychedelic
  • Americana

Inaequalis – Beach Bum (2017)

  • Neokrautrock
  • Electro-rock
  • Alternative dance
  • Avant-pop
  • Electronic

Comment: this handful of tracks is a dynamic/motorik blend of 70s German inspired rhythms and churning guitar riffs and electro vibes of the 80s and its derivatives. You know by listening to a part of these beats in another context may be a bit cheesy as if getting a déja vu sense of the sleazy 90s Europop and German trance but the wall of those tightly mixed intertwined guitar riffs and key changes and twisted analogue electronic effects and shimmering keyboard harmonized lines do absorb all possible inferior tendencies into an ennobling whole. All the aforementioned elements and balance between them remind me some first albums by Swedish combo Joxfield ProjeX. On the other side, it is neither clinical nor dry. Great music by any means.

Lately Kind Of Yeah – Two Shades Of Apart (2006/2019)

  • Improvised music
  • Avant-rock
  • Experimental rock
  • Art rock
  • Noise rock
  • Electro-acoustic

Comment: this set of 14 tracks is just a fine dedication to guitar playing but nothing else by employing different techniques, timbres and colours. A listener can hear feverish chord changes, dynamic arpeggios, and arousing strumming here and there. At times the guitar seems to be "tortured" on prepared setups and arrangements full of slamming noises, elliptic sonic effects, electro-acoustic shrieks, warped chords and majestic wall of sounds. It is mostly all about the technical possibilities one could get out of the instrument. That also can be tagged as non-guitar music because its intention is to go far away from a weary imagination through phantasms, interruptions, filters, deviations. But not only. Beyond that melodic progressions and silent incantations used to surface in the middle of the tumult by balancing the result. Indeed, at times it chimes like a lighter version of Glenn Branca or Sonic Youth. For sure, emotive side is strong enough on it because it contains the earliest experiments by the artist then aged 15-16 years old only. Very accepted to waft the upstream of an ordinary guitar template; the album is being released on Vulpiano.

Mela – Mela Two (2019)

  • Alternative pop
  • Jazz rock
  • Mood music
  • Art pop
  • Indie pop
  • Easy listening
  • Fusion
  • Post-rock
  • Downbeat
  • Crossover

Comment: this amusing bunch of 10 compositions is created by a US-based quartet, Mela consisting of Paul Sottnik (piano, celeste, vocals, acoustic guitar), Frank Valente (vibraphone, shaker, electric piano), Taylor Ford (electric bass, electric guitar), and Jake Payne (the drums). I would like to call it just a fine release of mood music/easy listening based on pastel colours via jazz, fusion and post-rock threads reminding either Miles Davis from the end of the 60s or the sublime outlooks of Tortoise and The Sea And Cake from more recent times. Thirdly, it reminds of bright elements of azure yacht rock mingled with cool jazz touch from the 80s sometime. However, it can be admitted partly because it depends on the balance and burden of a certain composition. Indeed, the vibraphone and hi-hats are frequently predominant in many tracks by adding that sort of vamp what could be expected from a fine fusion of indie/art rock/yacht rock/downbeat/easy listening/post-rock album. For instance, listen to an astounding track, The Darker Side. Truly chill.

Natural Snow Buildings – Aldebaran (2016)

  • Experimental folk
  • Free folk
  • Ambient
  • Drone folk
  • New Weird France
  • Avant-folk
  • Epic
  • Post-folk
  • Minimalism
  • Psych-folk
  • Ambient folk
  • Improvised music
  • Drone

Comment: I can remember for my first hearing about Aldebaran was related to a Soviet movie, The Mystery of the Third Planet (1981) being accompanied by a great electronic musical background of Aleksandr Zatsepin (which is now sought by many music lovers worldwide). Aldebaran is one of the most luminous stars in the Universe and it is something which inspired the enigmatic French duo of Mehdi Ameziane and Solange Gularte (being active as NSB since the end of the 90s) to create this 25-track magnum opus. Musically it is thoroughly hypnotic without any exceptions full of droning, intensified guitar and cello chords and lofty feedback-trodden reverberations in the course of almost six hours. A smouldering symphony as an output for something colossal and beautiful. Beyond all the sonorous sounds and faint effects (at times one hears a bagpipe, a melodica, a flute, electro-acoustic clanging, vowels and spoken words) one could discern the structure of songs used to rely on minimal ground through smooth shifts thereby providing a strong wondrous impact on a listener's perception and consciousness. In some sense, it is like a folk/drone version of vaporwave music due to strongly retrodelic, past anchored timbres at first sight yet nevertheless all the result seems to go ahead of our time, go ahead of us like very distant stellar objects do shine to us like being mixed up of reality and mysticism. The whole (sound) resonates physically and seemingly consciously through air. It is called cosmic om, isn't? The album inserts healing awe and purgative wonder to get distracted from surrounding crap and start feeling oneself again to be an integrated part of this tremendous solemn village. In some sense, unfortunately, the release is a bittersweet elegy to our malignant existence on Earth (the issue is finished off with an emblematically entitled track, The Drowned Church). The magnificent issue is a part of the discography of Vulpiano. Simply irresistible magical glimpse.

Hatch – Arcanoid (2018)

  • Techno pop
  • Tech-funk
  • Alternative dance
  • Electro pop
  • Minimal synth

Comment: this batch of 11 pieces is an intense yet truly decent amalgamation of funky basses, techno-induced rough meandering synthesisers and thin hi-hats, bent electronic frequencies and modulated speeds for an example of solid electro pop, at more poppy moments with inclusion of voice and movie samples it is about something coming close to outsider synth-pop/minimal synth numbers. By its deep and obsessive manner it reminds of the best traditions of the Detroit techno and electro scene and more obscure Italo disco endeavours. Indeed, it is like a flourishing flower getting hefty fare from drifting between a rigid, machine-determined moloch and more loose, soul exposed glimpses. It is both for the listener's cerebral and bodily spheres. Behind this one-man-project is Eugene Rowlett from London, UK and the issue is a bit in the discography of Section27.

KieLoBot – Hounds of Darkmoor (2017)

  • Krautrock
  • Psych-rock
  • Art rock
  • Funk rock
  • Experimental rock
  • Avant-rock
  • Indie rock
  • Pop rock
  • Lad rock

Comment: KieLoBot is a Göppingen, German group (Lobo Loco, and Kieli Cat) who has issued a handful of releases so far. They sing in their native language being mostly backed up by easy arrangements as if set up on the next day followed by a heavy booze-up night. Not yet ready and having no intention to provide something serious and profound but instead of it doing joyous lad pop/rock numbers with occasional hints at funk, reggae and smooth jazz. As if getting billed somewhere in a pub to gig a careless stint. Later on, let's take some steps further, regarding impressive Krautrock progressions over there it will remind of some late performances by CAN where additionally to the music and the band were also represented a joggler on the stage. Something similarly inconsistent feels can be felt throughout this course of 11 tracks. However, Wirklich Wichtig Electromix, self-titled track and Tanzen are true gems with analytical approach more depth to be added and gone into both hypnotic funk and spaced-out spheres. You can find out the combo's albums at Free Music Archive, and Bandcamp.

Stekalive – Europa EP (2019)

  • Experimental techno
  • Minimalism
  • Alternative dance
  • Techno
  • Art music
  • Electronic music
  • Techno pop

Comment: by listening to this set of four compositions, more detailedly, long-running compositions by Stekalive, an artist from Krasnogorsk, Russia I shall have to admit by getting out more layers from there rather than just listening a musical example reminiscent of techno. However, it is an example of techno yet a vivid and invigorating one. Of course, there can be drawn parallels upon the likes of Orbital, and Underworld as fine examples of how to bring underground ideas to a broader ground. The aforementioned juggernauts and Stekalive as their disciple have proved the idea that producing experimental techno one can do without rejecting any pop music facets. Experimental techno and techno pop can be considered as different yet somehow inseparable sides of one and the same path. It may be I am a bit spoiled but I think Autechre also used to have that connection on many occasions. Keep going on, Europa EP is an organic and propelling sequel of acid and motorik, embodying a sort of polyphonic music consisting of almost unchangeably rhythmic shape-shifting and acidic adeptly warped effects set upon and over the former. The listener can perceive organic feedback between the whole and its initial parts. Additionally, one can hear a remote of krautrock especially at its most artsy moments. And that's the cardinal point. The enchanting outing is a bit in the discography of Soisloscerdos.

Beko_Hartzine (2011)

  • Indie pop/rock
  • Noise pop
  • Alternative pop/rock
  • Cover
  • Psych-pop
  • Live
  • Lo-fi
  • Post-punk
  • Hypnagogic pop
  • Glo-fi
  • Experimental pop
  • Avant-pop
  • New Weird America
  • Coldwave

Comment: in fact, indie compilations may be boring and dull but it cannot be assumed about French imprint Beko DSL and especially about this 18-notch outing. There are up such artists as Tan Dollar, Ender Belongs To Me, Ela Orleans, Colours, Black Vatican, William Cody Watson, Happy New Year, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Jani/Jussi, Collatone, Krusht, To The Happy New, The KVB, Michael Parallax. There is represented a smorgasbord of sounds and styles and an immense amount of crossovers between them. At times more straightforward and noisy, at times more languid and dreamy. At times more electronically employed, sometimes more guitars brought to the focus, at times more vowel effects brought forth thereby echoing back to the golden days of a new wave of the New Weird movement in the 00s. Yet there are up a couple of brilliants over there – Happy New Year's hypnagogic cover of Iggy Pop's The Endless Sea, and Ela Orleans 's Beat Goes On (live at Budokan) which strives to be successfully gravity-free. In a word, get immersed in an idea of indie music of how it would have perpetuated in the beginning of the 10s.

Inaequalis – Bête Noire (2018)

  • Psych-rock
  • Alternative rock
  • Krautrock
  • Experimental rock
  • Avant-prog
  • Crossover
  • Avant-rock
  • Acid rock
  • Art rock
  • Psych-prog
  • Surf rock
  • Space rock

Comment: if anyone of us would decide to play music by following groovy trends then he/she should acknowledge such sort of music would result in nothing more than a soulless product. Because of that I admire such sort of musicians – sometimes being called as outsider musicians – who are obsessed by some definite ideas having no calculation in the case would it be popular or not. Music should be the case about being dead or alive. For instance, Sun Ra, Moondog, Bruce Haack, The Space Lady, Jandek, R Stevie Moore and early Ariel Pink (at the time of The Haunted Graffiti) showcased something truly earnest and unrepeatable worth to be remembered for now and forever. Let's call it the constellation from outside. Inaequalis' 19-notch outing is a joyous jam of daring amalgamation of rhythmic patterns and bass gears being embellished with an effect-laden guitar and vivid and fast changing synths by creating uncanny glimpses as if coming out from very hidden corners of progressive and psychedelic rock. It is knee-deep, it is thoroughly spaced-out. In a sense, it reminds of Trans Am, an unconventional post-rock combo from The United States who used to merge motorik/kraut, synth-pop/electronica, progressive/art rock and much more else into a blatant, vociferous fist. And also there are up some similarities with Amon Düül's fiery psych-prog obsessions. At times the listener is embedded in a deep stoned mayhem played in the key of surf rock. That's marvellous! In a word, listen to this untamed version of contemporary rock and roll. Please do not forget – rock is power, rock is defiance, rock is an ennobling feel. Rock is the identity. Top fare by any means.

The Womb – An Introduction to The Womb (2017)

  • Indie pop
  • Singer-songwriter
  • Art pop
  • DIY
  • Alternative pop
  • Funk rock

Comment: Alan Driscoll with her female friends are pushing forward another storytelling of The Womb. He has been active already for a couple of decades with a numerous of albums, compilations, and EPs all having been issued on his own imprint Danielle Records. Business as usual, this set of 15 compositions is discretely voluptuous and obsessive, it is all about huge egos and the so-called sperm wars and instrumentally it is accompanied by chalking guitars, programmed rhythms and electronic odds and ends. It is about the rise of self-awareness and self-indulgence and dominance through sex and relationships. Of course, this (partly) confessional set is incomparably much better than reading the bloody Co...an and more convincing than visiting annoying portals which dissect relationships because the aforementioned institutions in fact say nothing particular about you because they trying to say about everything. In fact, all this relationship stuff constitutes a quite adverse yet partly naturally, partly artificially determined horizon for a single human being. I guess the beasts are naturally more arranged because of following the call of nature and being not decayed and get obsessed otherwise than just dealing with survival (the most important thing is that they are smarter because of knowing of how to do it in the optimal way). And that's the very problem of the mentioned horizon by changing a human being into a foolish monkey. After all, does it really make him or her happier as a bunch of bones, vessels, muscles triggered by some chemical-physical processes? Rather it is called a state of affection. The very touch of this miscellany can only be found out from minutiae like funky rhythms, exhausted appearances in singing manner, exalting propulsions in guitar playing, more profoundly, by exploring gentle feedbacks and chopped chords and extended arrangements over here at times. Furthermore, it is an intelligently dynamic (inter)play between the main course and "exceptions" within it. A spastic and a bit interrupted sax development can be met at Sex Club. Suggestive melody progressions lead the listener at The Stories We Tell Ourselves About Ourselves, and at Don't Remind Me.

Comment: this batch of two compositions chimes like having no existence, as if coming from nowhere, as if reflecting upon objects which did exist somewhere uncountable days ago. In an ordinary sense, this invisible flow of sonic waves does not exist yet this configuration is always over there to be activated for one's pleasure if needed. Indeed, it was issued in 2011 by Bad Panda, it is a year which seems to be a bit within our grasp, and a bit beyond it. Much water has streamed within the river bed since then. The opening track Sunday Market is saturated with glistening rays as if a strong, radiant reflection by such combos as Mouse On Mars, Kreidler, Hood, To Rococo Rot who did like to make up love affairs with intelligent dance music, krautrock, indie and post-rock. The composition is intense and tight, all of its slots are filled in with blissful yet a little bit poisonous magic. The other track called Hidden Leaves can be considered just an accompaniment of Sunday Market yet it is a fine sequence. The guitars are less ambivalent, the tempo is more slowed down and restrained and the intensity of the first track has disappeared. It is a reflection of something which slowly fades away after having experienced the apotheosis. It is called cowbell indie, isn't? Nice.
