Juanitos - OrganiXperiment (2012)
9.2
/Psychedelia, Funk, Surf rock, Alternative, Acid pop, Latin music, Exotica pop, Chill out, Lounge music/
Comment: hooray, France-based musician Juan Naveira aka Mr Juan (also known in regard to his side projects Miss Emma, and Limbo Deluxe) is back with a barrage of psychedelic organ sounds, seamless surf licks, dizzy funk grooves, and sly latin motives mixed flickers. Similarly to his previous issues it is highly amusing and chilling. If you dare to call it as "muzak" then you should admit it is a sort of arty muzak whose
inspirational sources do hark back to whimsical space age pop and elfish exotica/tiki pop in addition to the aforementioned sections. However, there are even up some motorik elements related to the aesthetics of krautrock, and indie vibes. Indeed, I have never perceived the use of synthesizers by him before it. In a nutshell, it is a fabulous listening experience.
Binärpilot - You Can't Stop Da Funk (2006)
9.0
/Chiptune, Electronic pop, Robopop, 8-bit, Funk, Electro pop, World fusion, Poptronica/
Comment: popular Norwegian producer Alexander Støver aka Binärpilot`s 4-track issue does encapsulate a wide range of styles and genres veering away from 70`s Bowie-esque funk propulsions and contemporary rnb appearances to more precise electro cadences and mechanic groove appealed territories where robot-tweaked rhythms are traded to sawtooth and squarewave-shaped rhythms, and on the contrary. There is also up the third dimension which is closely related to slight world music/Orient-fused progressions where you experience both Jewish and Arabic patterns. In a word, we can´t do it.

Nicht Rio - Title Turtle (2011)
8.9
/Improvised music, Electro-acoustic, Experimentalism, Live session, Avant-garde, Musique concrete, Acousmatics/
Comment: Lionel Malric (prepared piano), Yannis Frier (table guitar, amplified objects), Sebastien Bouhana (drums, percussions) are being a part of the Grand Chahut Collectif. This session was shot during their first tour in 2010 while the trio was travelling in the South of France with a hundred-year-old baby grand piano. They shared the stage with the likes of Sébastien Cirotteau, Emmanuel Cremer, Charles Fichaux, Bastien Pelenc, Heddy Boubaker, Olivier Germain-Noureux and Laurent Rochelle. However, their introducing gig as a trio was performed in the Notre-Dame Chapel in Fabrezan at the "Son MiRé" festival. More profoundly, the particular session does last approximately an half-hour being filled in with squeaking bits, intriguing signal-tweaked effects, buffoonish turns and detours, a little whistling sounds and surrounding dense ambience therefore honouring the kind of electro-acoustic, acousmatic and concrete music. By describing the impulses of the track the listener can detect a course getting grow more intense and noiseful with every subsequent step the ensemble is taking toward the final seconds.
Cadmio - EP (2011)
9.3
/Art rock, Indie, Alternative rock, DIY, Noir rock, Post-punk/
Comment: this handful of tracks is produced by the Italian musician Luigi Palmieri whose instrumental ones are composed with the spot on glowering guitar riffs and sprawling hooks and uplifting propulsions which are backed up with sublime synth textures full of emotive lines and intriguing forms. At times the whole reminds a bit of an outtake dragged out from the post-punk/noir rock/art rock scene. It can be compared with Vini Reilly`s guitar work, for instance. Delicious by any means.
C.Scott - Stage Theory (Beats vol. 3) (2012)
9.5
/Sound collage, Breaks, Trip-hop, Chill out, Mood music, Chilltronica, Cinematic, Experimental hip-hop/
Comment: this set of 17 compositions is a precious release because of appropriately alternating between exactly changing rhythm patterns, moody harmonics and suggestive motives thereby managing to chime timelessly throughout the course. However, the relations between the different parts in particular songs are fresh, dynamic and even whimsical at times. The particles the album is built on are immersed either with glacial and noir-esque shimmers or red giant-soaked glimpses or narcotic feasts. Those languid yet crispy bits can be within the highest objects to enjoy for now and later. There can be drawn parallels upon the likes of Flying Lotus, Ears, Strad, Phaseone, Kisszanto, Bulimic Orgy & Mile, Rimar etc.
Alaska - Shitty Songs For Stupid People (2012)
9.2
/Alternative rock, Punk, Garage, Hardcore, Blues, Psychedelic rock, Acid rock/
Comment: there are up 12 rants exceeded over 30 minutes which basically take on punk rock blasts which are variegated with hardcore, garage, blues and dirty electronic chips. The listener can be sure the issue he or she is listening to at a time is an uncompromising explosion of rock and roll embracing slaughtering edges, disillusive noiseful feedbacks, and intoxicating punches. However, what else could you expect from a genuine rock and roll album?

Bristophe - Dismissed Frankenstein (2012)
8.8
/Improvised music, Soundtrack, Chamber music, Conceptual, Experimentalism/
Comment: Bristophe is an improvised music duo comprising of Brice Catherin, and Cristophe Schweitzer. These 7 tracks have been managed in a way to take on barely audible chamber music filled in with more or less hirsute chords and some mellow storms in a teacup. It sounds somewhere in between Miles Davis´ intimate moments and Penguin Cafe Orchestra`s more restrained glimpses. Furthermore, it sounds like a soundtrack because it was produced like a soundtrack for a film called Frankenstein back in 2009.
Apskaft Presents: Rolling Stone 500 (2010)
9.0
/Conceptual, Weird pop, Alternative, Avant-garde, Noise, Covers, DIY, Lo-fi/
Comment: this set of 12 tracks is connected to some titles of the Rolling Stone magazine`s choice of the 500 greatest pop songs ever. Behind these cover versions are musical groups and artists related to the avant-garde collective Apskaft. The course veers away from decent alternative pop numbers to more nihilistic lo-fi and noise approaches. Very exciting indeed. The label`s other compilations are worth to be recommended for either.
10/12/2012
Strad - Post-Apocalyptic Beats (2008)
9.7
/Breaks, Cinematic, Urban music, Acid, Experimental electronica, Dubstep, Trap/
Comment: by watching the title of an album by Strad you can suppose the content of it is about dystopic industrial-filled rustles and hisses. However, in fact, it used to move along this premiss and sometimes not as well. Indeed, it contains a loads of aggressive synth gears, compelling rhythmic metrics, and expressive noises, yet, on the other side Strad takes on cinematic and developments full of opalescent dreams and tremendous desire for reaching cosmic territories and heavy reveries. The issue seems to be laid down somewhere in between a cutting edge-y approach and a more crowd appealing exploration. By the way, this 13-track album can be considered a precursor for Flying Lotus`Cosmogamma issued in 2010 (Warp Records). In a word, it is a superb yet still unsung release.
C. Reider - One Of The Drone Boys (2011)
9.2
/Drone, Experimentalism, Avant-garde, Microtonal, Noise, Minimalism/
Comment: this bundle of 7 compositions is inspired by the words of Frans de Waard (Vital Weekly) who said that C.Reider is "one of the drone boys". However, there is up a proper drone issue produced with the assistance of wave generators, synths, didgeridoos, undocumented samples, site recordings. The soundscapes of him used to be restrained and minimal, though, having an evident impulse for further expansions and escalations. By the coloured scope Reiter`s exploration used to run on the white and gray scale covered up with the frequencies of signals and treated noises.

Mitsuru Shimizu - Ili (2012)
9.0
/Piano, Modern classical, Freeformfreakout, Anime pop, Experimental electronica, Crossover/
Lauki - 69º54´S-135º12´E (2012)
9.7
/Experimentalism, Chamber music, Modern classical, Avant-garde, Electro-acoustic, Acousmatics/
Comment: (Mikel) Lauki is a Basque-artist (born in Pamplona) who is residing in Barcelona at the moment. His 5-track issue is a melancholic, glittering whole travelling down along with emotive cello chords which in turn are backed up by treated electronics and epic acoustics mixed environment. It involves uplifting crescendos and sublime shuffle of chords. Sometimes it is more experimental, sometimes more poppy thereby reminding even of Penguin Cafe Orchestra. In a word, it is highly pictureque by its expressionistic touch and approach.

Cagey House - Mostly I Like Everything (2012)
7.5
/Sound collage, Alternative, Art pop, Experimental electronica, Sampledelic/
Comment: I have always had a soft spot toward Dave Keifer`s (mostly known under the pseudonym Cagey House) aesthetics of sublime electronica, buffoonish propulsions, ghostly sample-based approach and somehow otherworldly dimensions oozing out from here and there. This time his brand new one does not have impression upon me this way. Unfortunately. Maybe it is related to his more loose approach to channel all the stuff in a less emotional and obsessive way, however, therefore sounding a little bit sparsely and without having a sense of viable configuration ultimately. Yet, you can find out a little charm and grace from within it nevertheless
The Wiggly Tendrils - Tendrils in Space (2011)
9.4
/Alt-folk, Indie folk, Electronic pop, Indie rock, Conceptual, Folk indie, Psychedelic pop, Singer-songwriter/
Comment: it is said that the Wiggly Tendrils is a group of prolific songwriter-producers. Indeed, there are represented such artists as The Parents, D.E. Healey, Sabertooth Man, Daytime Lights, Rachelintrees, B.T. Nook, T.W. Tendrils, and The Potlucks. They have tagged their music as NASA pop, and space music. Nevertheless, they do not poke fun at classifications. In fact, all these 8 songs are dedicated to the final NASA shuttle flight (Mission STS-135). It does not make difference if these songs are soaked in more or less careless acoustic pop or treated more electronically. It is space pop by any means involving truly crafty songs.

Eurovision Über Alles - The Soundtrack (2012)
9.3
/Harsh noise, Illbient, Spoken word, Cut and paste, Avant-garde, Experimentalism, Non-music, Plunderphonics/
Comment: this set of 3 tracks is a hell-ish whole by EÜA which is namely a side project of the France-based artist Sobria Ebrietas. It contains a shitloads of samples dragged from horror movies and psychological thrillers. Indeed, it is filled in with the dreadful shrieks and crying of victims and supernatural creatures-sided cagy growling and there are up even some incantations made up for Lucifer`s sake (the God of liberty as they do suggest over there). On the other side it is backed up with powerful noise stabs and callous ambient textures. In a word, it sounds like a radiophonic episode to evoke up the listener`s subconsciousness.
Laiila - Evjiäl (2009)
9.2
/Abstract, Glitchtronica, Experimental electronica, Noise, Avant-electronica, Illbient, Non-music/
Comment: this batch of 6 pieces by Nada Alleen is a peripheral amalgamation of effect-based electronic progressions, trashy cuts and glitches, haunting vibrations, improvised noises and restrained shrieks. The album used to open different doors and windows simultaneously, however, some of them seem to be otherworldly and hostile kind of dodges. In a word, the whole is sonically and emotionally very exciting and charming indeed, though, it is not a pop album at all.

Clockwork Keyboard - Clock Soup For Cooked Airports (2012)
9.4
/DIY, Lo-fi, Psychedelic, Drone, Ambient, Deep house, Noise, Improvised music, Lobit, Experimentalism, Avant-garde/
Comment: I guess everyone who has listened to the likes of an early Cabaret Voltaire and other then-old school industrial experimentators, BBC Radiophonic Workshop, library music tapes, some early albums by The Hirundu (headed up by John Crewdson), more poppier R Stevie Moore and Ariel Pink and Rangers and Ducktails is able to understand the aesthetics of Clockwork Keyboard which is the collaboration act between Loose Link, Sven Meyer, and Noisesurfer. This huge cluster of 18 tracks takes on warped ambient music which is corrupted and increased in size due to rough beats, low but organic noises, globular psychedelic whiffs, mesmerizing droning and incisive sonic effects. Moreover, even sublime deep house oscillations do have a strong impact upon the soundscape. In a nutshell, I used to have a soft spot for such kind of music because its slight imperfectness seems to be quite perfect in a paradoxic way. Almost all the things which used to be way too produced are hermetic and without remarkable touch by their nature.
Bruno Sanfilippo - Piano Texture Found (2012)
9.2
/Modern classical, Ambient, Experimental electronica, Electro-acoustic, Piano music/
Comment: Bruno Sanfilippo is a Barcelona residing composer of Argentinian heritage who provides a batch of 3 compositions undertaking the exploration of experimental piano music where the sequences of subtle piano chords are amplified and channelized into an atmospheric realm which in turn is filled in with sensitive touches, lofty ascensions, fragile digital-ragged fringes and microtonal noises and dropping electro-acoustic bits. In a word, it is a relaxing listening session worth your time to be spent for. By kindred souls there can be drawn parallels upon the likes of Max Richter, Bosque De mi Mente, Lubomyr Melnyk, for instance.
10/05/2012
ZhangJW - A.D.S.R - Linkage (2008)
9.0
/Downtempo, Breaks, Cinematic, Chill out, IDM, Experimental electronica/
Comment: this set of 3 tracks comes out from Beijing, China. ZhangJW is the musician who is known due to establishment of the Bypass Records, a label created for representation of different kind of electronic music and broken beats. His own set has been managed in a way to fuse cinematic, laidback rhythms with some concrete sounds and lush ambient textures.
Anno Bergmann - Dark Diskette (2012)
9.2
/Electronic pop, Electro-rock, Art pop, Downtempo, Alternative, Indie soul/
Comment: mostly throughout the course this 9-piece set can be generalized for an example of subtle indie soul which originates from Cologne, Germany. More concretely, AB mixes up those wobbly vibrations and ideas with suggestive electronic rhythms, lush layers and ticklingly autotuned vocals which sometimes are more rock-oriented and uplifting, at times more contemplative and sensitive. The only exceptions are a genunine improvised rock-induced glimpse and glacial downtempo-esque appearance presented in the second part of the album.

Argo Vals - Hallitussilmad (2011)
9.5
/Art pop, Experimental rock, Dream pop, Alternative/
Comment: Argo Vals is a young educated musician from Ahja, Põlva County, Estonia who is probably best known due to his participation in such groups as Viljandi Guitar Trio, and Talamak. However, his 2-track issue is a fascinating one oozing out exhausting dreams and magic dust through the relation based on in between sprawling guitar arrangements and encircling sonic effects. It reminds a little bit of Kaseke, an Estonian fusion/jazz rock band having basically been active in the first period of 80s, and some cloudless motives popped out from many Soviet-period cartoons.
Cambriana - House of Tolerance (2012)
9.0
/Indie pop, Electronic pop, Alternative, Brass pop, Baroque pop, Soul/
Comment: there are presented 10 refined pop songs by Luis Calil who hails from Brazil being apparently inspired by orchestrated indie pop, brass-tinged explorations, 80s new wave artists` synthesized aesthetics, charming soul pop and Phil Spector`s wall of sound. By considering it more intriguingly this might sound like a decent child of A-ha, The Divine Comedy, and Jens Lekman.
10/02/2012
dUASsEMIcOLCHEIASiNVERTIDAS - SADITREVNiSAIEHCLOcIMEsSAUd (2011)
9.1
/Free jazz, Avant-rock, Smooth jazz, Crossover, Psychedelic rock, Space rock, Experimental rock, Jazz rock, Alternative, Krautrock, Improvised music/
Comment: this project with the lengthy name and album title hails from Portugal providing a sprawling blend of free jazz and rock improvisations which in turn do range from spacey explorations and powerfully overdriving dodges to over-the-top guitar sections and noisy walls, acute brass interventions and heavy drumming torrents. In fact, on the other side, all these rough patterns are sometimes toned down with silentful contemplations which in turn are supposed to be the platforms for further brisk shuffles and incisive appearances. So the band do follow the closed circle formula so characteristic for some compartments of experimental music.
Brick Mower - Box Turtle flexi 7 (2010)
9.3
/Indie punk, Psychedelic rock, Art punk, Acid rock, Power pop, Alternative rock/
Comment: there is up a couple of tracks by Keansburg, New Brunswick-based combo Brick Mower (great name indeed) who do fuse incisive, a little bit acidic power pop propulsions and suggestive punk mixed indie aesthetics into a crafty, poignant whole. In a word, it is an instance of art punk, more profoundly, a way of how punk should be produced and performed.
10/01/2012
Kago - Boonus EP (2012)
8.8
/Alt-folk, Punk folk, Singer-songwriter, Indie folk, Folk indie, New Weird Estonia/
Comment: Kago is Lauri Sommer (born in 1973), an Estonian poet, writer, and musician who has been releasing albums since 2003 on a small Estonian independent (folk, lo-fi, indie, experimental) label, called Õunaviks since 2003. Prior to Kago, LS had involved in various dada, ethnic, experimental and punk-defined groups. However, Ibipaio is the fifth issue of him which additionally to the physical format does include a small mp3 compilation of bucolic songs supplemented with pristine guitar handling, some treated distortions around it, though, the opening track is up at the base of the vintage chords of a keyboard. The lyrics above it used to be melancholic and contemplative ones seamlessly interlaced with surrealistic turns and eminences. The only shortage is related to the unit`s shortness. However, if you would like to enjoy the aesthetics of Kago forward while having no money or there are some reasons otherwise not to posess the main album then you could download Kago`s third album Monumentalnõi Holodilnik (2007) or his dadaistic side project (with Villem Valme) Tuljak`s Soos must vöö (2006) at the Records site.
Fabian Racca - t-errormachine (2012)
9.0
/Drone, Minimal, Abstract, Noise, Avant-garde, Experimentalism/
Comment: this batch of 3 compositions does expose lush-textured steamrolling drones filled in with minimal phase changes, discrete burning and tickling pulsations beneath the core. However, onward this silence-near situation will be ruptured with a series of harsh metallic eruptions and mesmeric shuffles and overdriving effects and vowel-based interventions. In a word, these errors do incur impressive results recommended for any serious adherent involved in experimental music. Moreover, the errors are part of our life and if these errors are concerted in an accurate way the outcome can be a glittering deal by any means.
9/30/2012
Damn Robot! - Jasurp (2012)
9.2
/Post-rock, Experimental rock, Ambient rock, Epic/
Comment: Damn Robot is a duo consisting of the brothers Mark, and Tim Honey who in turn have associated themselves with such groups as Good Weather For An Airstrike, Inachus, and Oceanus. Their 12-track issue is up there at the base of beatifically flourishing and eruptive guitar walls and pronounced drum sequences which now and then are varied with pleasing female singing by Alex Fawcett, lofty orchestrated vapors, more ambient-soaked gliding, programmed beats, some electronic effects and haphazardly appeared spoken word snippets. On the other side, there are some exceptions either. For instance, The One Who Knocks is managed in a way to embrace the elements of profoundly haunting soul music backed up by discrete electric piano-relied chords. By its majesty Pulp would be proud of it, for instance. In a word, it is an ordinary example of a post-rock psyche existing recently. Very good listening indeed.
Indian Wells - Night Drops (2012)
9.2
/Alternative, Indietronica, Electronic pop, Epic, Downtempo, Leftfield, Chilltronica, Glo-fi, Chill out/
Comment: the Italy-based Indian Wells is a synth-relied artist who loves sophisticated yet somehow soothing rhythm patterns mixed up with stepwise ascending ethereal motives and glacial whiffs. Nevertheless, the music seems to be an instrumental and quite anonymous one therefore allowing for the listener to find out her/his own corner somewhere. Of course, there are some moments where Indian Wells stands for more brooding sounds and incisive bits. In addition to it there are up some snippets revealing the artist`s fondness for tennis game as similarly as its name hints at it.
9/29/2012
?alos – Ricordi Indelebili (2012)
9.6
/No Wave, Dada, Anti-punk, Noise rock, Avant-punk, Avant-garde, Chamber music, Art punk, Experimental rock/
Comment: though this batch of 13 notches by the Italian musician Stefania Pedretti was firstly issued in 2006 on Bar La Muerte it is still actual at the recent time due to its essentially rebellious patterns, irritating sonic bugs and incisive effects. More concretely, Pedretti manifests toward her audience in an obsessive and arrogant way being backed up with distorted guitar riffs, acute electronic torrents, rigid chamber-induced processings, and dance rhythms which in fact are not thought to have further intention toward the disco venues. Her nihilistic approach can be compared with such female artists as Diamanda Galas, Lydia Lunch, Maja Ratkje. But not only to hint at them - there can be drawn parallels upon the likes of Sonic Youth, Public Image Limited, Gang Gang Dance, and Mark E Smith (The Fall).
Linear Bells - Le Cavalier Bleu (2012)
9.4
/Dystopbient, Ambient drone, Minimalism, Experimentalism, Avant-garde, Soundscapes/
Comment: this set of 3 long-running compositions is produced by David Teboul aka Linear Bells from Naoned (Nantes), Brittany, (the territory which has been culturally and ethnically occupied and oppressed by France over many generations) whose album An Island (issued on the Swedish tape label Zeon Light) is being one of the top notches in 2012. However, this time he turned over 180 degrees to take more on discrete space-related effects full of dark-hued and shadowy fringes and corroded resonances. By nature the album is genuinely pessimistic giving no hopes and light-hearted glimpses for next days. It sounds like a broadcast transmitted from an abandoned junkyard of history reflecting still upon the fucked-up dreams and hypocritical life of human kind having had once before the torrent of malignant radiation annihilated it all. The release is to be one nick in the long array of the aesthetics once conceived by Luigi Russolo who warned us from possible consequences and tremendous side effects coming out from the industrialization process.
9/28/2012
Drgs - A Load Of Old Drgs (2009)
9.3
/Hip-hop, Electronic pop, Sampledelic, Sound collage, Chill out/
Comment: undoubtedly Hippocamp, the Manchester-based records can be labelled as cult label. Indeed, from within its discographic depth the listener can pull out many gems and hidden qualities. However, the particular, 4-track issue is one of them. In the first place it does reveal itself as being exulting and chill at the same time delivering the appearance of gargantuan rainbows and elemental torrents mixed up with sunny glimpses and transparent clouds. I would like to call the whole as a blended example of emotive electronica.
Bisamråtta - Bisamråtta (2012)
10.0
/Post-rock, Ambient, Experimental rock, Soundscapes, Post-folk, Epic/
Comment: if I can remember it accurately for Bisamråtta was a philospher in the Moomin Tales, a minor character in one of the most beloved (children) books worldwide written by Tove Jansson. This time Bisamråtta is the Russian artist Vlad Luchansky who provides a batch of 3 mesmeric compositions based on blissful guitar-shaped massives and otherworldly beautiful turns and heart-breaking ascensions. Theoretically, if the listener is interested in to localize the possible place this soundscape would be born once then you have no choice to figure it out. In fact, these tracks used to sound like perfect anthems for possible futuristic, more humanistic polities. In addition to it I recommend to listen to the likes of Natural Snow Buildings, Pan American, Woodworkings, Tudo de Volta.
9/27/2012
The Jesus Fish Experience - Magnitudes Of Infinity (2011)
9.2
/Doom rock, Drone doom, Post-metal, Epic, Experimental metal, Psychedelia, Ambient rock, Post-rock/
Comment: there are up 2 lengthy compositions where the aesthetical approach is spotted upon the mix of fuzzed long chords and powerful yet still soothing guitar penetrations. The second, eponymous track does include the singing by The Game Owl`s Jordan Hyman, more concretely, based on hypnotic repetitions and anxiety-induced exhausting reveries. It is an instance of controlled, exactly channelized psychedelia, isn`t? Impressive. This is heavy metal to be ours.
Jonas the Plugexpert - Ondervlak (2010)
8.8
/IDM, Downtempo, Remixes, Experimental electronica, Sampledelic, Jungle, Electronic pop, Breakcore/
Comment: the Netherlands-based sonic explorer Richard Jonas launched his musical activity at the beginning of 90`s then operating with protracker on Amiga 500. Since this moment he has posted up a lot of releases over the internet (mainly at Bandcamp). Ondervlak is a huge publication of 28 compositions standing at the intersection between soothing downtempo, acidic electronic pop, gleaming IDM-esque propulsions and more blustery jungle and breakcore endeavours (which do refer at his past activities either sometimes). Inspite of the abovementioned stylistical boundaries the contents staying in between them do involve much more information than it is allowed to communicate it with possibly exact words. The predominant part of the album had been produced in a timespan of 5 years, between the years of 2005-2010. In addition to original tracks there are presented 4 remixes. In a word, the quality of the issue is undoubtedly high, the only problem is that it is way too long.
9/26/2012
Rangers - Homemade Cassette Collages II (2008)
9.6
/Lo-fi, Shoegaze, Improvised music, Psych-rock, Drone rock, DIY, Space rock, Avant-garde, Psychedelic, Experimental rock, Alternative/
Comment: the Dallasite Joe Knight aka Rangers` a pair of lengthy tracks does reflect exactly upon the emergence of a huge array of the tape labels worldwide in recent years. The particular issue is composed of spaced-out guitar progressions, smoky synth motions and change-overs, and loosely shuffling drum sequences which in general are channelized into exhausting shamanic droning which in turn strikes with the invigorating punch. Furthermore, the listener can perceive both the timeless influences of Ariel Pink, and R Stevie Moore, and more peripheral sonic shamanists and demented folkers and shoegazers (Glenn Branca, the minimalists, The Silver Apples, A Beautiful Machine, Ducktails, Lee Noble, Jackie-O Motherfucker, for instance). In a nutshell, it is a boisterous, and dizzy envelope which provides a way of how ideal pop should sound.
Bagpipe Whiskey - Asparagus Puppy EP (2009)
9.0
/Folktronica, Breaks, Psychedelic, Acid pop, Electronic pop, Sampledelic, Sound collage/
Comment: Bagpipe Whiskey is the one-man-project by Benjamin Mason from Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK whose issues are being related to such imprints as Kift Flipper, and Parallax Sounds to date. This set of 4 tracks (spreaded out over 17 minutes) is a dizzy compound of chopped beats, and organic sounds where lofty electronica and synthesized psychedelic slabs and more or less acoustic ascensions (and intense scratch units now and then) are merged with pleasing motives and uplifting harmonies. There may be drawn parallels upon the likes of Four Tet, Monokle, ChromaData, DJ Shadow. By the way, the release was published on the 31st October (the Halloween day).
9/25/2012
Azoora - A Thousand Ways EP (2012)
9.3
/Psychedelic, Alternative, Cosmic fusion, Alternative dance, Krautrock, Indie, Space rock/
Comment: Azoora can be considered a domestic group within the list of 23 Seconds, Gothenburg, the Sweden-based records being in action since 2006. These 6 tracks used to emerge out from a sublime blend of hirsute psychedelia, bucolic guitar strumming, exulting motorik rock propulsions, gloomy synth bubbling and suggestive spacey reverberations. Inspite of the balanced quality and related links between the tracks the favourite notch of mine is Keep On Running, which includes hidden captivating layers to go in the subconsciousness of the listener. Therefore the quartet`s aesthetical approach can be compared with the ones of other British groups such as Clinker, and The Womb, for instance. In a word, keep on listening to it. You will get drowned in it at a certain moment.
Various Artists - Japanese Lyrics VS Underground Musics (2012)
8.6
/Electronic pop, Freeformfreakout, Breakcore, Anime pop, Hardcore, Poptronica, Crossover,Conceptual, Shibuya-kei, J-pop, Electro, Hip-hop/
Comment: indeed, such a kind of compilation is proudly up there to treat us with frantic smorgasboard of vibes and rhythms. Stylistically it ranges from harsh, drilling electro and hip-hop mixed propulsions and chopped folktronica and shibuya-kei blended poptronica to high-pressure breakcore attacks and blissful child-alike or blatantly distorted singing by contrast. In a word, it is very intense, nearly without any breathing times inside the whole. It sounds like a bunch of electro artists produced by a Japanoise artist. However, there are represented such artists as ankokushinwa, CHICAGO, eiron, Helianthuz, KenKoTaiji, kyou1110, la:rk, liliIL, netsu_summer_beat, umio.
9/24/2012
Lill Piggy - Handicapped Doll EP (2012)
9.2
/Dub, Electro, Disco, Club dance, Art pop, Electronic pop, Crossover, Alternative dance/
Comment: this batch of 4 pieces provides a pleasing mix of diverse genres and vibes which are tightly interlaced with each other. More concretely, there are presented such styles as minimal funk, lo-fi dub, mutant disco, motorik funk. By its arty and whimsical approach it reminds somehow of Arthur Russell, whose dance album (he had never issued) would have bounced in this way.
Plastic Whore - Wet Planet (2004)
8.9
/Doom metal, EBM, Industrial rock, Electro-rock, Grindcore, Electronic metal, Post-metal/
Comment: Plastic Whore is the nom de plume of Jarmo Nuutre, the Estonian musician who is also being known as a half of the stoner/doom project Talbot (the duo had toured across Europe and was the warm-up act for Nadja in Tallinn some years ago, for instance). Wet Planet was his first issue where 10 tracks have been managed in a way to acquire brutal doom and industrial mixed propulsions and suffocating walls, however, where the listener can detect dance-appealed/EBM rhythms, nihilistic sonic rushes, electronically mixed growling, amorphous black psychedelia and even some technical/progressive metal slabs and gears additionally. Yet, his later issues could even be ranked with higher points. In a nutshell, it is frantically ominous shit.
9/23/2012
Jane Siberry - Teenager (1996)
9.2
/Singer-songwriter, Alt-folk/
Comment: this was the first album by the Canadian musician Jane Siberry on her own imprint Sheeba Records. There are presented 14 songs spreaded out a little over a hour. All these pieces were written in her teenager years and recorded later with the assistance of an acoustic guitar and piano (regarding some tracks) devoid of electric keyboards and supplementary electronics ordinarily represented on her other issues. More concretely, all those templates and dodges represented there in an intimate way used to depict dreamy and a little bit nostalgic pictures because Siberry watches her past events at a distance, through her retrospective eyes. It is called the memories of finding out her personality.
Doll - Lusio Nova (2008/2010)
CLLCT
9.0

Comment: Shannon Doll is a singer-songwriter who is being a part of Bloomington, the Indiana-based collective CLLCT which can be considered one of the most important DIY-related platforms worldwide. Doll provides a set of 9 songs which is filled in with pronounced intimacy, exhausting dreaminess and contemplative melancholy, though, she is apparently aware of the sequences of varying chords and tempo. Indeed, sometimes she used to infiltrate strummed string magic into an embodiment composed of fingerpicked chords. By the way, three compositions of the whole are nice cover versions (Bob Dylan`s Blowin`In The Wind, Tom Petty`s Wildflowers, and Paul Simon`s Duncan). Love it.

Mixtape 22.09.2012
Comment: as usual the course of the particular compilation reflects upon a huge array of styles and genres and moods extending from poignant electronic and rhythm explorations to string-based ambient and otherworldly freak folk appearances to straightforward post-punk and provoking No Wave "punk" propulsions. The album will be launch with a Tropicalia-influenced alternative pop, and East Of Borneo lifts up its hand burned with kraut and improvisation-tinged acids.

Viktar Siamashka - h.M (2012)
8.8
/Improvised music, Experimentalism, Avant-garde, Electro-acoustic/
Comment: Viktar Siamashka`s 6-piece album is recorded somewhere in the abandoned industrial buildings in Minsk, Belarus. By the conceptual side it seems to be a quite intriguing outlet due to mixing up acoustic woodwind instruments (flutes, clarinets) with bleak echoes and dystopian feelings coming out from within those rooms with massive walls. Substantially according to such a technical approach of music it is generally restricted with the compositional linearity where the questing chords are swiftly followed up by each other backed up by organic noises coming out of the streets. Now and the the border lines and intention between the mentioned parts get blurred resulting in melting into each other at ease. All in all, it is an exciting issue mandatory for all those melomans who avidly do sympathize with the ideas of improvised music.
