The Cults - Contagious Spirits (2008)
/Psych-rock, Krautrock, Avant-rock, Drone rock, Psychedelia, Doom rock, Electronic, Experimental rock
Comment: The Cults (though it is far away from being as famous as its namesake from NYC) provides a way how knee-deep psychedelia and compelling (and at times murky) psych-rock should meet droning electronics-induced madness and frantic desert rock. Indeed, the issue is built on repetitive shapes and motorik propulsions which can be juxtaposed to such juggernauts as Spacemen 3, Black Dice, Bardo Pond, Sonic Youth, Suicide, Silver Apples, and Jessamine. Though The Cults is highly experimental he used to not forget the balance between the aesthetics of cutting edge and more soulful, affective sides. For instance, you should listen to tracks like Communication From Elsewhere, Reflections, Fire. In a nutshell, the release awaits to be discovered and sung up to the level it deserves for by reflecting the passion and dedication of mad genius.
