Tarolin ‎– Ringe Raja 041 (2017)

  • Breakcore
  • Electronic music
  • Jungle
  • World music
  • Alternative dance
  • Gypsy music
  • Worldbeat
  • Breakbeat

Comment: this handful of pieces can be tagged as breakcore but with regard to the content it embraces remarkably more, especially with the spot upon gypsy themes in many kind of heavily beating electronic forms. Earlier I have heard gypsy themes in punk, folk and jazz music and film scores but such an explicit electronic example is something new to my ears. With regard to the Gypsies (Romas) as a nation native to India one can hear similarities with other Indian nations` motives either. And even some motives of Bollywood films reflect upon bygone days while having spent your time with the motion pictures by Raj Kapoor, and singing by Lata Mageshkar. For sure, one can also feel him/herself like staying in the middle of the dance place in a carnival. Even if there may be some woeful threads within the tracks the upbringing tempo melds all of those minor spots into an unstoppably winsome maelstrom. From the starting point to the ending point on end. For sure, it is not problematic to catch the artist`s drift because otherwise it would be imposed upon you. The delirious issue is a part of the discography of Ringe Raja.

Massimo Ruberti – Granchite Yumtruso PT 2 (2018)

  • New Age

  • Alternative
  • Improvised music
  • Smooth jazz
  • Synth-pop
  • Crossover
  • Krautrock
  • Kosmische Musik
  • Worldbeat
  • World music

Comment: all the music Livorno, Italy-based artist Massimo Ruberti has been creating is wonderful. On the other side, the quality is not changed worse while he has changed the nature and pace of his music over the years. It may be even more adequate to admit the changes have been organic and made step by step so one feels difference and an analogous appearance at the same time. While listening to this 4-notch release I have to assume Massimo Ruberti has added a clear pop inflicted tendency to his sound though doing it in his own particular way. It may be considered inevitable and organic if an experimental artist has explored many kind of finesse through the sound and thereafter tries to test his/her craftiness by creating a sublime pop sound. Here we are, at a sultry crossroad of world music, smooth jazz, ambient pop, sophisti-pop and synth-pop. Smooth jazz as a style is frequently signified as superficial and slight though in the recent context the aforementioned adjectives are turned off. A dominant thread is an adept employing of singing and vowel effects it is something I have a little encountered in the artist's oeuvre. Bombastic yet profound orchestrations used to alternate with loose Kosmische and psychedelic ambient drenched synths and at times more minimal rhythms play predominant role. Robots are also represented over there by denoting a transitional time span when Kraftwerk changed from a motorik krautrock combo into an electro and techno pop juggernaut somewhere between 1973-74. The other aspect is related to an esoteric impression as if one is dwelling in the middle of a rain forest and being a thousands of miles away from the civilization. Especially it can be heard at Wilderness. The release which undoubtedly makes difference is a part of the discography of Nostress, an Italian imprint.

Pam – Ah! (2008)

  • Indietronica
  • Electronic music
  • Primitronica
  • Alternative
  • Lo-fi
  • Toytronica
  • Ambient pop
  • IDM

Comment: one will have a glass of water, one will have a glass of wine, one will have a half hour with Pam's Ah! These are ways of how to cope with daily trivialities, and even worse, with banalities. These 8 tracks are something outside of your usual listening experience because it is mostly composed of loose rusty bits, clockwork-alike erroneous bits and crackling noises as if coming from an abandoned toy factory. You could feel huge sadness while comparing the past and the miserable present status of the building. Furthermore, because it was issued under Petite&Jolie in 2008 it arouses bittersweet memories and partly because of that connecting the past with the present. The rest of the sonic appearance is remarkably more tranquil and bound to silence. It is also an example of the fact the time does have tendency to pass by extremely fast. In this case there is no need to invent the time machine to transport back in time. Just take a rest and listen to it.

Scant Intone – Victory Building (2004)

  • Avant-garde
  • Micronoise
  • Leftfield
  • Post-industrial
  • Experimentalism
  • Abstract
  • Minimalism
  • Electronic music
  • Avant-electronica
  • Microtonal
  • Microsound
  • Drone

Comment: Constantine Katsiris aka Scant Intone's music is very specific in its highly austere yet sophisticated appearance. The Canadian musician's quest to find out more and more soul and life from the limited borders of a rusty and iron loaded universe deserves attention to be paid off. Katsiris' purposes to change the pace within the textural and rhythmic area are clearly discernible – one can hear iterative pulsating cycles coming from nothing and finishing off into nothing. Indeed, at times the artist sends off sounds and signals which almost cannot be heard and then they will crank up slowly in sounds and intensity. You can hear watery droning, crackling microsounds, and intensified electric current. The listener would think is it either a medium of reality or the abstract kind of music? Or mixed sort of stuff? This handful of tracks is a part of the discography of Panospria.

Comment: the first post at RMH at the beginning of 2009 was about an album by Leafes being released on a Swedish imprint, redstarcommunity. Because of that it is very understandable to feel delighted being at the discography of the record label again. And the 12-track issue is truly worth to spend time with it. Musically it is a strong miscellany of experimental pop/art pop/post-rock tendencies with hints at organcore/ambient pop/glo-fi styles where droning organs and noisy guitars resonate with one another thereof creating flickering shadowplays and velvety soundscapes. Indeed, the main tone is rather dark than light though at times some sunbeams come into the room being hidden behind thick curtains. The result is truly invigorative and consistent to conceal one's broken soul. The artist is assisted by other imprint mates who have created remixes for some of the compositions (more profoundly, Tyrone Miller, Jonassis O'hara, PHerd Deconstructivists and The Late Virginia Summers).

Alejandro Albornoz-Mika Martini – Two Chilean Blokes In The Soundhouse (2017)

  • Abstract
  • Experimentalism
  • Electronic music
  • Avant-garde
  • Improvised music
  •  Electro-acoustic
  •  Avant-electronica
  • Psycho-acoustic
  • Micronoise

Comment: as the title hints at this 11-track outing the whole seems to be interesting or at least playful. By thinking of a soundhouse I can imagine a huge apartment filled in with massive analogue synths you need at times the ladder to implement all the applications of the machines. The two Chilean blokes provide a frantic blend of electro-acoustic progressions, gurgling and glitched-out noises, pulsating frequencies, vowel experiments, randomised piano chords and something else of which could be pigeonholed after you would have listened to it. It was recorded in one of the studios in Sheffield, the home town for such important avant and pop combos as Cabaret Voltaire, and Pulp, respectively. It is improvised music after it is edited, it is live music after it is cut into a bunch of 12 different tracks. Yeah, it is a shiny, mind-provoking outlet being issued on the Chilean Pueblo Nuevo.

x.y.r – Tourist (2017)

  • Hypnagogic pop
  • Mood music
  • Avant-pop
  • Art pop
  • Ambient pop
  • Tiki lounge
  • Lounge pop
  • Organic electronica

Comment: this 9-notch issue is about sultry chords, sublime theme progressions, and just about a fine milieu to be created within one's cozy bedroom. As the cover print suggests it is outside our Western civilization it brings us to islands in the Pacific Ocean. To Hawaii, and Micronesia, and Polynesia all of those places which can be considered an earthly paradise. One sits down on the coast of a laguna and staring at unearthly beauty around her/him. Behind the project is a genuine creator from Russia, Vladimir Karpov, who was previously being known behind the project 2muchachos of which music can be described as more ambient and folk mixed and because of that having similarities with the New Weird movement. However, similarly to the previous project Karpov employs Russian analogue synths Formanta, and Alisa to create wondrous atmospheric layers and serene horizons. All his sonic tricks do make impact on the listener. More profoundly, iterative phrases, reverse sounds. At times it seems to be so unearthly that the beauty seems to be a bit spooky as if growing out like an offshoot of Leyland Kirby, for example. In a nutshell, it is a marvellous example of mood/lounge music. The issue is a part of the discography of Ingrown Records.

The Womb – Sex Tape (2013/2015)

  • Singer-songwriter
  • Alternative pop
  • Indie pop
  • Art pop

Comment: as the title hints at UK born Alan Driscoll sings explicitly about sex in terms of seedy full shades, quarter shades, and penumbras. He does it through a wide prism of colours. In fact, he has chimed about physical love before this 10-notch issue and also thereafter. The tracks used to be seductive in their lurking formats. However, it can be admitted Alan Driscoll's music is always different, always the same. He pushes right buttons to create an intimate milieu by giving you a chance to come along with the songs. His oeuvre can be put somewhere between Momus, and Pulp, being more close to the former, though. You can perceive his dry yet a bit cynical and mocking approach. On the other side, a sex tape is something which could be closely connected with Jarvis Cocker's voyeuristic tendencies. Just thinking of the term "romantic relationship". Does it mean either hints at pre-sexual flirtation period or does it mean a sexual intercourse included? I started thinking of it while listening to a song called L.B.N.I.A.S.W. /It's love but not in a sexual way/. By my side, the more I am going to be acquainted with a girl the more I can ultimately make physically satisfying love with her. I think it is the right direction because it celebrates love. Otherwise I would prefer "professional" ones instead of wasting my time for nonsensical times. There is no disappointments, there is no excessive expectations. Fine work. The issue is released under Driscoll`s own Danielle Records.

Arte Sacra Atelier – Piano (2016)

  • Modern classical
  • Ambient drone
  • Post-classical
  • Art music
  • Ambient
  • Experimentalism
  • Avant-garde

Comment: the piano as an instrument has been often considered as the synonym of the classical music but for an average contemporary person classical music is obviously being considered as boring. Of course, it is a superficial approach because in the first place there is interesting music within the genre and secondly you can hear such artists as Nils Frahm, Hauschka, Lubomyr Melnyk, Max Richter who have given the piano a contemporary approach. Of course, the piano as an instrument alone is restricted but by adding to it some electronic extensions, and sonic effects and the result is generally great. Arte Sacra Atelier, an artist from San Antonio defines himself/herself more broadly, or at least beyond the borders of piano at his/her Bandcamp site (an Italian noise crooner). On the other side, though, the recent 5-track issue is entitled as Piano. However, the result is synthetic. A listener can hear experiments with lone piano chords being embraced by echo effects and wondrous ambience and on the other side there are represented massive ambient and drone quests. In a word, it is another great experimental work you can find out at Kermesse.

Futant – Cyberpunk (2017)

  • Electronic music
  • Experimental electronica
  • Alternative
  • Minimal synth

Comment: I have listened to this 5-notch outing for many times and the more I listen to it the more it seems to be a mirror of the Sisyphos myth who is rolling the stone upward the hill. And then it starts off again and again from scratch. More profoundly, distorted beats, algorithmic electronic progressions and chopped-up rhythms do trudge across a line being backed up by the atmospheric layers. Is it an example of sophisticated primitive music? For sure, it is an opposite movement with regard to a polished and sterile studio production instance. At Procedure Complete it is going to progress into a minimal synth instance. In a word, you could find out democracy from this music you are not able to find it anymore from the most other areas in Western hemisphere. There is the right opinion, there is the wrong opinion. Most information around you used to have a superficial and propagandist value. The release is a part of the discography of cOmaRecOrdz.

Balogh=Double Sided Double Density (2011)

  • Electro-acoustic
  • Avant-garde
  • Experimentalism
  • Leftfield
  • Noise
  • Plunderphonics
  •  Improvised music
  • Sampledelic
  • Avant-blues

Comment: Jared C. Balogh is a man who has done very much for the sake of the weblabel/netlabel world. He has been leading an imprint, Altered State Of Mine and released a bunch of albums. So it can be said he has had very much to say even if having a focus upon his particular albums. One of them is over there being released on Kermesse, an Argentine imprint. The description of it at the release site is apprehensible – 4 tracks of layered first take improv. And it works in its roughness and raggedness, having made it on guitars, the drums and electronic/sonic effects (accelerations, manipulation with hisses). One can feel curious of what is going to happen during the next steps. The second track Sad Alert Alarm Emergency one can perceive that below those distorted guitar-based overdrives is the simplistic theme progression which reminds me of Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones. However, later tracks embrace clear-cut samples from pop songs. It is all about distortion and disruption in a straight and indirect sense. You can hear chopped and sliced rhythmic patterns, unusual sonic combinations being obviously inspired by cutting-edge jazz, dada music, Captain Beefheart's deranged soul. Get this miscellany of intriguing compositions and sounds.

SatanoiD – Astronomical Disease (2017)

  • Breakcore
  • Alternative
  • Electronic music
  • Drill and bass
  • Jungle
  • Digital hardcore

Comment: let's continue with a similar content with regard to Spuma Pu's self-titled issue. This time we have to come to the north coast of the Baltic Sea, to Finland. Satanoid's 7-notch outing is an intense, frantic platform for incisive synthesised progressions, piercing drones, atmospheric middle layers and laser guided rhythms. Is it a depiction of the vestibule of hell? However, I do not believe in hell, and devil instead of it you can believe in God (which is not restricted by ridiculous depictions of the so-called religions anyhow) and the mischievous nature of human being. And Earth is going to be hell thanks to us. You cannot change it better for yourself even if you are having such frivolities as an iPhone, and Gucci & Mucci bottles. It is a way of self-deception. Like Mark E. Smith once chanted /eat why'self fitter/up the stairs mister/. Indeed, there are no stairs on its own way. There are up the stupid TV shows only. It might be this 7-track one depicts a perverted relationship between God and a human being. It might be it is a depiction of a battle between different civilizations in Outer Space. The absurdity of annihilation. I could say the intensity is atop if you are listening to it in a less conscious level. The issue is a part of the discography of Entity.

Roberto Daglio - Coll.of Coll. Two (2014)

  • Yacht rock
  • Mood music
  • Jazz pop
  • Lounge
  • Easy listening

Comment: this set of 4 tracks is the follow-up to the same titled issue though I have not listened to it yet and because of that I have no chance to compare the two ones. However, it is not a problem. So much as I have listened to it so far it is obviously the most moody and easily running issue getting inspiration from cloudless sky, and deep blue ocean. Yet the listener cannot deny the impact directed to the body – so you could imagine a romantic club somewhere nearby the beach being coloured by the sunset and being the place for romantic meetings. Roberto Daglio also makes reference to his famous compatriot Ennio Morricone at Seed of Peace which is an angelic masterpiece. The Mirror includes an acidic, psychedelic development giving the track a catchy outlook. You can draw parallels upon such masterminds as Bruno Nicolai, and Paul Mauriat as well. Yet it is an outstanding success by Roberto Daglio himself.

Spuma Pu – Spuma Pu (2017)

  • Freeformfreakout
  • Avant-garde
  • Experimentalism
  • Improvised music
  • No Wave
  • Improvised noise
  • Electronic music
  • Leftfield
  • Radiophonic art

Comment: from conservative point of view it is a chaotic bullshit which does have a few in common with traditional songwriting. In fact, some shards of the traditional song structure are demolished into unknown. More profoundly, there are up some layers from CAN's most experimental tracks like Aumgn, and Peking O by Tago Mago, the twisted electro-punk ethic of Suicide, improvised noise ethic of Borbetomagus and No Wave in general. You can hear hallmarks of experimental music like sheer experiments with radio short waves, gritty electronic music, vowel and gurgling dashes, unexpected turns in different directions, accelerated and decelerated sonic effects. Mostly it comes out like an obscure radio play from the 70s (one of the best experimental genres). It reminds me of Sarah Raisines who did already appear at RMH, and Pan Y Rosas Discos and is represented on the release. In a word, let's set your mind free to embrace the aforementioned madness. The mind-provoking outing is a bit in the discography of Pan Y Rosas Discos.
