Boyish/Daisyblue - Gentle Breeze EP (2012)

9.2

/Alternative rock, Indie pop, Jangle pop, J-pop/

Comment: this is a sequent issue on a Japanese label, called Canata Records. In any cases, this 4-track issue created by two bands can be characterized by highly joyous guitar works reminiscent of a timespan having been between the mid-80s and the beginning of 90s when the indies made their first efforts. The whole is filled with blossoming guitar chords and suggestive vocal reveries (variegated with male and female vocals respectively) which sometimes is embellished with heavy keyboard-based works. There can be drawn parallels upon the likes of McCarthy, The Pastels, early Primal Scream, The Chameleons. The closing Summer Film track by Daisyblue resembles a little bit of Happy Mondays` Lazytis. In all, it is soo nostalgic and impressive!

brh06 V.A.- Breathe 06 (2012)

8.7

/Indie pop, Krautrock, Chillout, Dark ambient, Electronic pop, Funk, Downtempo, Baroque pop/

Comment: this 14-track miscellany involves such artists as ArnAck, Transmission 13, Ohuican/Jaguar Nahuatl, Capisconne, Ray Garrido, Bobby Wotnot, Invector, Dimitris, Nahuatl Sound System, PerlssDj, TSS Tortue Super sonic, Nulix, Gapisconne, 1981, and Vela. However, the music presented by these projects used to extend from brooding ambient/dark ambient and New Age-tinged reverberations to flourishing indie pop appearances and motorik krautrock-ish propulsions and smooth funk vibes and uplifting chillout appearances.

emptywhale — Fearscapes (2012)

9.2

/Dark ambient, Dystopbient, Epic, Organic electronica, Ambient, Soundscapes, Avant-garde/

Comment: this handful of tracks is composed of dark-hued ambient vibes flourishing on incessant, repetitive patterns. I used to call such creepy kind of music as dystopbient, though, sometimes through its charmingly resigned templates it showcases some bias toward blissful ambient shapes (Suburbs) and organic, concrete sound-filled undulation. In a nutshell, the listener can perceive intense internal burning which seems to be the main plot of the issue. The listener could probably draw parallels upon the likes of Loscil, Pan American, Eluder, Caustic Reverie.

Conveyor - Mukraker (2012)

9.4

/Alt-folk, New Weird America, Americana, Glo-fi, Baroque pop, Avant-pop/

Comment: I can remember for that Conveyor`s first issue Sun Ray (2011) was an astonishing effort full of mesmerizing harmonies and modern compositions. However, the Brooklyn-based quartet`s single continues the same path mixing up light-hearted blisstronic oscillations with the glorious New Weird America, and Americana tradition (these emotionally impressive vocal lines and hazy orchestrations/brass sections used to make true impact upon the listener). The single originates from the band`s self-titled album issued on Paper Bag Records in 2012. Mandatory by any means.

Ergo Phizmiz - Nose Points In Different Directions (2010)

8.9

/Plunderphonics, Sound collage, Sampledelic, Cut and paste, Experimental electronica, Avant-garde/

Comment: Phizmiz provides 14 notches which can be described as a tumultuous issue blossoming on different samples, quirky bents and an enourmous amount of hints at various times and cultures all around the world. Of course, due to the earlier doings of a legend of the plunderphonics/conceptual art scene (and by the nature of the scene) you can be sure that his result is not surprising at all. It veers away from the improvised sets of beatbox music and noiseful gears to the samples of genuine classical music. However, the question can just be reduced to the one - is it enough suitable to your recent psychological condition and nature, though? Yet, undoubtedly it is intriguing and enough intricate to have a couple of listening times at least. Or much more.

Lufth - Tendenzen (2003)

9.1

/Trip-hop, Dub, Breaks, Experimental electronica, Chill out/

Comment: undoubtedly a label called Thinner was one of the first netlabels who had provided qualitative kind of dance rhythms and broken beats. This 4-track publication takes on sublime, slow-paced pieces including mainly acidic trip-hop progressions and glowering dub-moulded mist, however, involving some acoustic chords in between the aforementioned styles either. In a word, the set is rich emotionally and sensually. It is truly worth to be remembered.
