Comment: Okinawa Lifestyle is a collective from Tbilisi, Georgia which can be considered one of the most fascinating musical projects originating from the post-Soviet territory. There can be supposed if the duo had a privilege to be the US-based combo by roots they might have acquired the status of a famous indie band. Underwater, the 7-track whole basically blows up exhausting dreams, blissed-out flickers, and sultry dance rhythms. The favorite of mines are Green Wand which is an mesmeric instance of shoegaze-induced whirlpools and epic power, and Girls Annoy Boys (feat. Alie Lavoie) which sounds like a piece dedicated to the legacy of Madonna`s album Erotica.

Comment: Apsis Lappet is the solo project of Nate Kitchens, the Texas resident who started to compile his own pieces after the breakup of a pair of musical cooperations. Stylistically the whole picture is truly colourful due to a shitloads of refined allusions and at times humorous forays (indeed, there are some similarities comparable with the aesthetics of Army Of Lovers). Kitchens` music is whimsical and buffoonish and on the other side he is interested in to get involved in reaching vertical, epic heights. In general, it can be considered an instance of indie-tinged electronica-synth pop bedighted with accidental arpeggios, treated vocal lines, guitar-based propulsions. There are up some exceptions too - Rejected is Jenova 7`s breakbeat-driven remix, and Anaerobic is Kitchens´most innovative composition which includes experiments with the shuffle of radio waves, minimally channelized digital elaborations and infiltrations of suggestive concrete sounds.

Comment: in the first place, this batch of 9 compositions showcases its brooding and a  little hysterical brain dance-appealed side full of (half-) shades and industrial-tinged rhythmic facets and highly infiltrated borderlines right and left. Sometimes these elements are set in a way to build up more abstract sonic tissues, haunting landscapes and ill-omened robot "voices" which are assisted with the help of some concrete sounds and warped sonic effects. There are up some exceptions either which used to step in the traces of deep dub music. In short, it is an eminent example by the Russian combo coming out of the innovative dance music scene.

Comment: Imperial Topaz is a musical project from Brooklyn, NY, USA who used to fuse contemporary indie tendencies into a delicious hotchpotch. Furthermore, all these elements represented there are finely balanced, yet, being remarkably keen on slowcore and glo-fi elements in the first place. Indeed, although it might be perceived to provide predominatingly laidback templates and mesmerising dust for the listener it seems to be invigorating either somehow. This 4-track EP can be compared with the likes of Beach House, Prince Rama, Zola Jesus, Maria Minerva, Julia Holter. Very good by any means.

Comment: Circle of Lebanon is one of those projects being closely related to Skye Klein, the Australian avant-rocker and sound manipulator. There are up 5 pieces which take on mayhem-alike progressions filled in with glowering guitar drones and massive drum breaks which meanwhile are replaced with distorted vocal snippets, whimsical yet strained electronic arrangements. Frequently the soundscape is getting to grow beyond the borders of rock/metal borders, however, ultimately, landing in the realm of ambient/sound art/psycho-acoustic music/acousmatics. Indeed, at these moments this sound chimes like a soundtrack for a theatre performance somewhere in a dusty art house. In a nutshell, it is a tremendous stuff being one of those unsung gems waiting to be discovered sometime in the future.

Comment: Misha Mishajashvili provides a batch of intriguing, oddly designed compositions which are immersed with very surprising aspects and crossways. More concretely, it chimes like a chronicle of the industralization of the USSR and the creation of a new human race. Moreover, it can be viewed as a sonic evidence of the socialist realism where the dominating industrial-tinged axis is embellished with ethnic music motives (a loads of tabla rhythms below the sound layers), church choirs, jazzy samples and spoken word snippets which in turn used to depict relentless propaganda of the Red Plague. MM used to masterfully treat and distort these hiss-soaked elements, however, therefore amplifying and widening certain bits and spots from within the tremendous whole giving it an anxious milieu and distinct touch. Powerful!

Comment: undoubtedly Giant Manilow, the Birmingham-related artist is one of the greatest labels all around the world which used to house bands like The Shalfonts, Shocked Elevator Family, Yellobelly, The Reverends, Vampire Cop, The Home Stretch, Bryn Bowen, and Greg Bird & Flamingo Flame. Similarly to the other artists of the label an album of the last named collective (duo) sheds light upon different music styles veering away from baroque-esque thoughfulness and artful frills (therefore qetting quite close to Scott Walker, and David Sylvian, for instance) and murky post-punk/gothic rock/dark wave-alike dredging to insouciance kind of sunshine electronica and pronounced guitar chirps and spatial reverberations in emotions and yearning. In a word, it is enough right to suppose that these 6 tracks represented over there do have higher artistic quality than those first 6 pieces ranked up in the UK single chart top at the time.

Comment: a brand new one by a prolific master of chillout music called Anitek can easily be described in the terms of crossover music. More profoundly, his soundscape includes a lot of hints at many directions. Nevertheless, this 9-piece album used to be craftily balanced drifting moderately in between trip-hop/hip-hop frills and clearly framed acoustic guitar pop, gritty nu jazz/and smooth jazz visions and a little muddy blues-tinged templates. Comment: there is a handful of tracks spreaded out over 19 minutes. The affective, mostly dreamy vocal side on it is interlaced with sublime sonic manipulations-electronic effects and exciting guitar fingerpicks/and arpeggios and well composed guitar riffs. Emotionally it is rather depressive than soothing, though some parts on it sound more relieving due to their orchestrated magic dust. In any cases, Roncea (born in 1987) can be compared with such Italian experimental/indie folk musicians as (Carlo) Barbagallo, Distape, Artwood, Emme, Nick Rivera, Winstonmcnamara, and Menion.

Comment: undoubtedly this set of 4 tracks is an intriguing one created by Daniel Kolpin from New York, USA. He merges modern sonic tendencies into a pleasing whole with the quite illustrating name. Blissed-out synths are mixed up with anthemic vocal lines, catchy bass sequences, and chiming guitar-based choppiness. It embraces masterfully the parts from such styles as Americana, NWA, glo-fi/chillwave, shoegaze, poptronica, and even exotica pop. More concretely, there can be drawn parallels upon the likes of Monster Rally, Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Youarehere, Grizzly Bear, Bilinda Butchers etc. Kolpin`s music used to invigorate and calm down simultaneously. Comment: this sophomore album is the follow-up to CWD`s great self-titled album based on glimmering cosmic shadowplays and intricate obscurity. Indeed, the brand new one is a worthwhile trace which dovetails these aforementioned elements with the tendencies of shoegaze and post-rock music. This 10-track issue can be considered a cogent trinity consisting of exulting dark ambient-esque choppiness, majestic synthesized layers and blazing shoegaze-infiltrated noise washes. On the other side, the release will be ended up in a more bleak, abstract electro-acoustic and analogue electronica mixed environment. In a word, it feeds the listener`s envisioning and  relieves you anxiety because of providing a place where you could escape. If to compare it to the other artists, however, some parallels can be drawn upon the likes of Bing Satellites, Our Subatomic Earth, Caustic Reverie, J. Dujardin, saanasessions, aboombong. Comment: Troy Schafer (Madison, Wisconsin, USA) offers up a set of 3 pieces which is highly recommendable. More profoundly, his vanguard-ish, violin-led soundscapes are craftily tense, accentuated with different, massively droning keys thus getting close to such masters as Tony Conrad, and John Cale, though, he is idiosyncratic in his creative process (The Breath Of Life Is But A Kiss). Or on the other side, he is able to leave the academical tradition and to get involved in more poppy traditions (flirtations with Americana, noise and epic post-rock-ish seeds at Hail, True Body). TS`s soundscape is hell-ish and solemn at the same time. Apparition is an example of how classical tradition meets successfully modern days thereby establishing new frontiers and frameworks for the listener to understand music on a new level. In a word, it is a very fine crossover issue.

Comment: Automassage is a quartet which consists of Austrian and Slovenian musicians. Their 4-track album is issued on an Israeli label, entitled Birdsong. The compositions are made up of massive doom-ish guitar washes, buried a little threatening vocal layers, poignant drumming, and acidic synth whiffs, though, all these layers seem to be tied with each other in a loose way (it is OK anyway). More detailedly, if you like the following categorization, you would tag it "doomgaze" (though, it used to have reference points and hints at fusion, psychedelia/acid rock, and improvised deliberations either. Bardo Pond meets My Bloody Valentine meets Mahavishnu Orchestra is one way of how to approach the group. And there is no sign about saxophone! By the way, there are presented a pair of covers (Guns N` Roses` Get In the Ring; and - surprise, surprise - Holy Night). It is an astonishing release by any senses. Grrrt!

Comment: Testet Ölt is a collective from Temerin, Vojvodina, Serbia who provide a handful of tracks which used to wobble somewhere in between composed and improvised tendencies. More concretely, TÖ`s soundscape can stylistically be considered a hallmark of psychedelically treated post-rock whereas there is no vocal lines but instead of it involves a loads of key changes and half-crescendos oozing out of the slots backdropped with dreamy, at times even haunting synths, cohesive guitar lines, and mesmerizing drum sequences. There are some exceptions (Dèli Bàb) where Pink Floyd-esque influences are withdrawn and guitars and traded to vibraphones (or its emulators) thus reminding rather of the likes of The Dylan Group, Mice Parade, Mercury Program, and Tristeza. Another exception, called Biztos Alkony used to get quite close to the main theme of Twin Peaks, however, amalgamating it with solid guitar chords and catchy effects and tumultuous drum breaks now and then. The result is superb having enough potential to get a classic status sometime in the future.

Comment: this 28-track cover album is dedicated to the (French) Canadian singer-songwriter Julie Doiron by an Belgian-Canadian record, called Paper Heart, however, stylistically veering away from more or less whimsical indie/alt-folk contemplations and straightforward punk-ish forays and freely composed off-kilter appearances to soothing electric piano-led soft pop and fine electronica-tinged indie pop/post-rock examples and heartfelt, intimate singer-songwriter-ism. There are represented tracks by such artists as Snailhouse, Neil Haverty, Tino, Melochrome, nude, Call me Loretta, MEN, Evie, The Radiators (if to name some of them only). In a nutshell, the miscellany is on the ball.

Comment: this peculiar, 7-track issue comes out of France embarking on a journey with a whiff of concrete sounds which later will be interlaced with lone, reverb-laden guitar or piano chords and at times sparse, at times more swelling glitch-y noises, being embellished with fine ambient and drone-esque panoramas above it. On the other side, stylistically the set used to wobble in between gritty experimental electronica, anthemic yet somewhat restraint (or still life-ish) post-rock-ish aspirations, ang gliding drone and ambient-ish soundscapes. If you are intended to search for some kindred souls then I recommend to listen to Pygmalion-era Slowdive, Natural Snow Buildings, Pan American, Tim Hecker, Sejdman, Aboombong, for example.

Comment: Galvanic Elephants is a quartet from Tartu, Estonia who did convey these two tracks for the auditory approximately four months ago. Modern Superhero contains a straightforward punch based on guitars played walls and and slightly longing vocal lines (in a word, it involves the catchy refrain). Numbers is a more electronically coated and vocally a little bit autotuned danceable reverie searching for its location somewhere in between Keane, and Radiohead. However, the track can be considered an instance of the contemporary soft rock scene. By listening to the issue you can hark back to the post-punk and gothic rock heyday, though, Galvanic Elephants used to produce their music in a somewhat more poppy way. Ultimately there can be concluded this pair of tracks are produced and accomplished in a great way. In addition to it I recommend listen to the likes of Badass Yuki, Stones & Holes, and The Tallinn Daggers either.

Comment: the reason why I approve this album is because of it seals up lots of information in one time unit. Concurrently the listener can perceive a loads of elements appearing over there. The 3-piece course involves lushly howling sample contents, gobbling noise washes, amusingly treated electronics, and psyched-out occurrences. It chimes like a monument for insanity or a reproduction in the vein of real life.

Comment: behind Cantaloup hides himself Thomas Peters who had issued two excellent albums on Aerotone before it. Similarly to his previous oeuvres the new album is a masterful blend of shimmering electronica and fine indie pop and epic post-rock-ish and chamber rock-ish tendencies which may be compared with the likes of Wixel, Anois, Turnus, and Muhr. The listener can find out some teasers from the issue (for instance, Rest, and Echoes) featuring Alke Finn`s voice. In a word, you can feel happy with this 7-track issue.

Comment: Cagey House is Dave Keifer, a musician from Baltimore, USA whose most albums are made up of the collected sounds/samples only. He has issued a lot of releases neither of them happened to be mediocre or obtuse. In any cases, there are presented 6 short-running glimpses which do sound like soundtracks for possible velvety art house movies or a performance of the puppet theatre. More concretely, these compositions are a little bit haunting, a little bit buffoonish, a little bit beeping, a bit everything. In a word, the result is highly intriguing and precious to be listened again and again.

Comment: this set of mostly instrumental tracks is made up of highly swaying guitar riffs, thick rhythm sequences, however, which sometimes used to incorporate the Russian-related motives (though the project originates from Chile). The result is a frantic merry-go-round rotating around technically played chords, amusing chiptune-ish electronica. Moreover, there are represented some examples which take on so-called regatta pop synth fusion propulsions thus reminding of the regatta competition in Tallinn as a part of the Moscow Olympics. Indeed, all these aforementioned elements used to be in full swing.

Comment: indeed, my comment is about a comet (or track) which apparently hints at aspiration to get a trip in the outer space at least in the next 322 seconds. More concretely, the flight is a soothing and relieving one being surrounded with slightly resonating borders. In turn, these borderlines are composed of hissing vibrations and lofty dusty motion. In a word, in spite of being a heavily minimalist configuration it makes impact upon the listener.

Comment: aarrghh, this 7-piece issue is an erratic blend of psychedelic and spaced-out propulsions, chameleonic improvisation sections, psychotic squeezing noise forays, mesmerizing repetition-heavy electronica, however, ideologically resulting from the tradition of early electronic days (regarding the academic or classical music circuits) and the synthesis-induced krautrock alchemy (Conrad Schnitzler, Roedelius-Moebius) and the tradition of NY, California and Chicago-based improvised noise and sound art (Big City Orchestra, Borbetomagus, Tuxedomoon, The Residents). Highly convincing and one of the most impressive albums in the year of 2012 indeed. In a word, it is holy madness.
