Pöörase brasiillase Lucas Pastina järjekordne album mängib jätkuvalt alatutel võtetel -- võtnud aluseks bluusmuusika ning seda võimendanud elektrikitarril ja salvestanud nutitelefoniga -- tõsi, varasema ajaga võrreldes on lisanud ka mingisuguseid efekte; kuigi jah, üldises plaanis see tema kuvandit ei muuda, ning ongi hea -- kaheksa lugu kõlavad ühe tervikuna, kui üks terviklugu kokkuvõtvalt -- üks lugu lõpeb, teine algab; nende vahel on sekund pausi -- niimoodi igati võiduka lõpuni. Miks ka mitte kasutada bluusi rappimist, kui seda mitte teha Led Zeppelin'i moodi, kes ei teinud mitte midagi muud kui lihtsalt tagasihoidlikult kaasajastas (ja moonutas) stiili (et teha enda omaks). Lucas Pastina on veelgi konkreetsem, veelgi kinnisideelisem, veelgi trotslikum -- võttes ilmselt mingi tagasisidestusmürast kantud alateadvusse kinnistunud elemendi ning sellele kogu panuse teinud. Mulle meeldib brasiillase lähenemine seetõttu, et ühelt poolt on selles muusikas ülevus, kuid teisalt kumab läbi ka grotesksus -- seesama eelpoolmainitud ühele elemendile panustamine -- see ei ole mitte niivõrd irve bluusi, kuivõrd sapine kommentaar popmuusika kui omaette mooloki pihta. Lucas Pastina kohta võib väita sama kui John Peel väitis The Fall'i kohta -- alati ühesugune, alati erinev; ütlus ilmestab artisti mõtet ja kavatsust -- oluline ei ole mitte niivõrd tagantjärgi analüüs kui artisti kunati kuulamine, tema muusikast osasaamine, selle kuulamishetkes viibimine. Bluusmuusika traditsioon ulatub veel tagasi sellesse aega, kui muusikat veel ei salvestatud, aga esitati erilistel juhtudel. Või õigupoolest -- muusika esitamine oligi sündmus, oligi erilisus, oligi pühitsemine teatud mõttes -- Lucas Pastina esitabki muusikat publikule -- ta eesmärk ei ole ju müüa seda tuhandetele fännidele, vaid pakkuda oma vaeva, verd ja higi allalaadimiseks ning puhuti kuulamiseks. See siin on bluusi psühhedeelne seniit, mis kestab ja püsib, püsib ja kestab. Kidrariffi potentsi demonstreerimine ja teisalt selle küünlapäev. Miks mitte osa saada sellest mikrouniversumist, olla lendlev kübeke selle seestunud energias.

Brasiillane Lucas Pastina on algusest saati loonud muusikat, mis on kui ühte jõkke astumine või ühte anumasse sülitamine. Alati sama lärakas, ent siiski erineva läbimõõdu ja kujuga. Ses mõttes, et ühte ja samasse jõkke ei ole võimalik astuda, isegi kui väga tahaks. Ja loomise mõte ei saa ju peituda pelgas kopeerimises –  kopeerimine on kopeerimine. Pöörane kidraväänamisele, läbi filtrite käänamisele ning vokaalmanale rajatud improvisatsioon, mis võimendub avaras ruumis ümberringi. Ka sõnaline pool on selles formaalses kasinuses oluline –  kui ikka pealkirjas viidatud asjad valmistavad (lisaks) peavalu (sic!), siis kunsti tekkele on see positiivne olukord. Või kuidas? Ta laulab – õigupoolest oigab –, ent sellest niikuinii aru ei saa (ja ei olegi mõeldud sotti saama). Kui arvate, et bluusipõhise muusika tõlgendamise ainus radikaalne viis on see, mida pakuvad Jon Spencer Blues Explosion ja Royal Trux, siis arvake uuesti. Kuulake ja kannatage – või tähendab see, et hoopis nautige.

Brass Lucas Pastina näikse olemuslikult tegevat vahet oma kahel kehastusel. Üks ilmneb passinime all ning teine on pöörane alter ego elik Lucas Fucking Crazy. Tõepoolest, fucking crazy viimased kümme aastat olnud. Pärisnime all ilmunud kraam on hillitsetum-mõõdukam. Ta äratab üles vanad vaimud, vähem- ja rohkem seestunud blues'i hinged. Alates Howlin' Wolf'ist kuni Captain Beefheart'ini. Kõhedusttekitavad ristteed keskööl ja viljatud kõrbemaastikud liiva silma paiskavate tuuleiilidega. Siin ta siis lakkamatult improviseerib elektrikitarril ja oigab-jaurab-koriseb-ägiseb-uriseb, otsides hingelist tasakaalu 12 loo vältel, mis lõppude lõpuks sulanduvad justkui üheks lõputuks looks. Kardate, et blues rock võib olla korrumpeerunud-kommertsialiseerunud? Eelistage siis LFC muusikat, kuna siin neelatakse päriselt muda. See ei ole ainult vaimline sfäär, see on ka füüsiline valu.

Don Van Vliet ehk Captain Beefheart sündis kõrbes ja paljud kriitikud on märkinud selle mõju muusiku eripära kujunemisele. Kõrb on üleüldse üks müstiline ja väljakutseid esitav keskkond (bluusmuusikuid seostatakse kuradiga, Beefheart sündis sääl, väidetavalt Jeesust kiusas põrguline sääl). Piero Scaruffi peab teda kaasaegse muusika kõige olulisemaks artistiks, andes bluusmuusikale ja selle kaudu rokkmuusikale värskendava tõuke. Kindlasti mööda Brasiilia artisti LFC (Lucas Pastina) külgi ei ole legendi mõju maha jooksnud. Urinat, ulgumist, lõrinat, haukumist, kriiskamist, pröökamist, huilgamist, möirgamist on – seda nii otseses kui kaudsemas, muusikalises tähenduses. Seda see hullunud, edasi-tagasi õõtsuv helipilt tähendabki. Kajasse uppunud häälutused-moonutused ja dešifreerimata laul kohtuvad kordustel põhinevate, samas väljavenitatud akordidest viirgava kitarrimaagiaga, milles vibreerib füüsiline meedium ja vaimude sfäär. Lisaks meenub sellega seoses üks veider kidraeksperimentidel põhinev album kahe dekaadi tagant – Tore Elgarøy "The Sound Of The Sun" (2001, Rune Grammofon). "Escapamento Mental" on väga hea – iga korraga kasvab see suuremaks ja pöörasemaks nagu kontrolli alt väljunud tulekahi. Selleks, et seda 4-loolist saada, peate alla laadima kogu LFC diskograafia (nimelt Lucas on kogu oma muusika pistnud ühte virtuaalpakendisse. Segane!).

Lucas Pastina on üks segane (või geniaalne) brass, kes on üllitanud paarkümmend albumit viimase kümnekonna aasta jooksul. Enamus albumeid on ta üllitanud LFC nime all, mida laias laastus võiks pidada elektrikitarri kurnamiseks ja sellest viimasegi essentsi välja imemiseks. Captain Beefheart'i ja Glenn Branca sohipoeg või midagi taolist. Mis see rokk- ja kidrapõhine eksperimentaalmuusika muud on olnud kui erinevate kitarritootjate võitlus heliruumi eest. LFC loomingus on bluusi, on müra ja tumedat ämbienti, on vabas vormis lähenemist ja lihtsalt järelindustriaalset friigistumist. Oma nime all salvestatu – konkreetselt käesolev reliis – püüab hoida rohkem ühtset joont, ei ole siin plahvatusi, äkilisi pöördeid ja hulluse püünele tõstmist. Äkki hullus ilmneb pigem hiilival ja markeerimata kujul; tundetu, kontekstivälise trummeldamise ja droonivate ämbientsegmentide saatel. Midagi sellist, missugusena võiks kõlada drone doom metal kaks-kolm korda aeglasemana, mille saateks on kohmakas-elegantne soleerimine. Tõepoolest, asi ei muutu tasapaksuks – kõrgemad akordid on saateks või moodustavad omaette mustreid. Kohati eelpoolmainitet ämbientsegmendid kasvavad orkestratsioonideks; samas üks lugu põhineb jäähokihalli oreli improvisatsioonil. Petlikult lõbus. Väga huvitav üllitis, mis oma elegantses kohmakuses ja pealtnäha rikkiminekus meenutab kaasaega; aga pinged, vastuolud on kenasti välja mängitud ja leiavad esteetiliselt väärika väljundi.

Comment: these 13 tracks clocking in at a 20 minute are issued on Velvet Blue Records filled in with galvanized guitar-induced monoliths, rattling hi-hats and quirky threads dominated by sheer electronic effects and unusual drumming times and instrumental deviation all along. The more I am getting into it the more I realize the artist's intention just to manipulate with metal-related heaviness rather than serving it as the purpose. The listener can perceive how the aforementioned genres are disintegrated and pulverised for the sake of playfulness and artistic fun, for the sake of sonorous entertainment and artistic madness. The Convoys can be considered an exception of excelling at hardcore punk. Another exception is The Nothingness by doing away with the gravity of experimentation and heaviness of metal. Just to start off and fading into nothing as the title refers to. Thirdly, the issue is produced by exploiting DIY attitude and lo-fi approach of which artists are predominantly penchant for sonic experiments. This one is the case. Volatile handling on a guitar and rejecting demarcated stylistic borders reminds of another Brazilian maverick called Lucas Pastina aka LFC.

Go Genre Everything – Ghost Dreamer (2014)

Comment: this album of 9 tracks is about those human beings who used to imagine the ghosts really exist and because of that they also can be considered ghosts. Actually the combo can also be considered a phantom band because it is quite hard to discover some definitive information about them. First of all, the Australian Go Genre Everything used to exclusively release their sound under the domestic imprint Munchiegohilarious (you can find out approximately 10 releases from within). Formally it is a skewed release because 4 tracks are longer than 13 minutes and the rest of 5 tracks each of them used to be shorter than a span of 6 minutes. However, musically these 85 minutes are going to alter your mind due to those knee-deep psychedelic improvisations, and hirsute noisy soundscapes with such graters as haphazard, free-form drumming, dada-alike speech sound, didgeridoo-induced drones, loopy guitar-driven walls, lycanthropic growling and howling. If it seems to be wild and setting you free at the same time, then something it is still inside you you will have not cut primordial natural roots yet. The predominant rhythmic pattern of the issue is thick and groovy as if providing a dance-appealed material for the doom, space and krautrock-septic geeks. Hypnotic and baneful. More profoundly, killing boring feelings and tedious life aspects. All in all, it is overcoming and diving you potty in a positive sense. It may involve even more – it can be depicted as a pilgrimage through the purgatory where the intention and the ambience do encounter and interact with one another. Or a process of exorcism. By kindred souls there can be drawn parallels upon the likes of AXXONN, Circle Of Lebanon (both artists come from Australia), TFSL, LFC, Outer Gods, Ashtray Navigations, Vibracathedral Orchestra. In fact, the album`s sound used to partially connect to even more artists, from the dada music and freaked-out acts to free jazz and drone music to noise and sound art. A cut above for sure.

Comment: from zombie-induced backmasking Maggots In The Tongue to delta blues drenched Encordoamento the Brazilian Lucas Pastina's Insanitarius sets a new pace to bring forth his new and crazy ideas for all of us. Why we actually need them? I do not know but I know we need them in a certain way and for a certain purpose. Given that the path of the artist is disparate it is very mind-provoking to follow it. To see how it goes on, to see how it used to meander and dodge in certain moments, how it used to ascend and fade away. It is an ecstatic way to represent one's compelling grips through the sound. Insanitarius is also about insanity and madness as the aforementioned issues but musically-stylistically it can be considered an example of space rock with some reservations. The reservation does mean it can be considered as an example of guitar ambient either. The reservation does also mean it is a bit improvised, it seems not to be determined. By the way, you can hear the aforementioned zombies within the album as well though they are bit more withdrawn because of being buried in a half filled grave. I am very impressed of how some artists like Lucas Pastina can define aesthetic borders on certain albums and develop within these borders. I am way too volatile and haphazard to fulfill it. It is a kind of art. Intensity used to change throughout the 11-track outing but spaced-out influences used to bounce atop a listener's head. Furthermore, you can hear tectonic snoring within the whole. By any means, it is the feeling! Do you think of it you have sacrificed your valuable time to listen to it? Vice versa, Lucas Pastina has sacrificed his own time to redeem your frivolous nature and appease and replace your fake go(o)ds. For me, it makes very sense in the middle of nothing. Nothing as a state of being. Top quality by any means.

LFC – Encordoamento (2012)

Comment: while reviewing Lucas Pastina aka LFC's Maggots In The Tongue a week ago it was a case of freaked-out vowel madness without the accompaniment of blues music. Like it was properly ordered by me there is up a set of three tracks called Encordoamento based on instrumental blues numbers. Blues by numbers. Delta blues by numbers. In fact, it chimes like a lengthy blues rock without any interruptions and turns inside hell. Given that the artist's music should be considered as a whole rather than separating some bits from it you can then actually see it as a turn within Lucas Pastina's music. For me, he is an outstanding madman in music from Brazil whose recent release is catchy through those iterative patterns on quite fastly plucked guitar strings. Ultimately I have to admit it is not an ordinary example of blues rock by numbers by considering the premise the abbreviation LFC does mean Lucas Fucking Crazy.

Comment: it's time to arrive at Lucas Pastina aka LFC's music. The Brazilian persona non grata in music sets up something truly provokingly dysfunctional through these 9 compositions. The more I listen to it the more I feel I am being surrounded by our distant forefathers coming out of the Stone Age. Their dysfunctional speech and lack of articulation do shift the listener's perception through rough vowel effects, let's try to be without any adornments, just spooky moaning. Our dear forefathers as zombies. Do you think such sort of sound has never had any impact on pop music? You are wrong. Some music critics consider Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica the most innovative chapter within the history of pop music. LFC is here without blues, without no musical accompaniment altogether. Just some sonic effects, cold reverberations and sharp clashes are up there to deviate a possibly more coherent impact you could otherwise pick up on it. In a word, it is a ruthless example of sound yet the surrounding life is clearly more remorseless. Moreover, deranged madmen in music used to spill their seminal seeds for the forthcoming generations given that insanity is a driving force to move the ideas further. If you are thinking of the title and the cover print as disgusting you would change your mind by thinking of it as nutritionally highly caloric. You will get nourished. Frankly, it is frantic.

LFC – Vento Quente (2010)

Comment: it was approximately one moth ago when I commented on The Chopittos Arkestra`s album Zavanardi Rising. Vento Quente is another album by Brazilian experimentalist Lucas Pastina whose 6-track issue is ploughed with guitar riffs, heavy moaning and heavy, sustainable reverberations within somewhere of ambient soup. On the other side, it is not pure sort of spaced-out rock/ambient because one could perceive Dadaist approach in Pastina`s concept. At times the music is accentuated with concrete sounds and powerful slams. More profoundly, it sounds like an example of noticeably skewed blues and hard rock tinged music to have appeared in the 10s. Because of that the Brazilian`s album can be compared with the likes of Frank Zappa, Johnny Crewdson (the constant member behind such crazy combo as The Hirundu) and Captain Beefheart additionally to Tore Elgaroy, fydhws, Glenn Brown, Dolores and other contemporary guitar fuelled ambient musicians. By the way, LFC does mean Lucas Fucking Crazy. Indeed, he deserves his name utterly. It is a stunning issue.
