Blasphemation – An Oath of Total Allegiance to the Black God (2017)

  • Black metal
  • Extreme metal
  • Brutal metal
  • Black noise
  • Radiophonic art
  • Sludge metal
  • Goregrind
  • Crossover

Comment: today is the first advent of the year of 2017 so because of that this set of 4 tracks can be considered an act of blasphemy. Although my deed is not an act of blasphemy because I do not consider Jesus as a deity. But I like Jesus as a righteous and rebellious person who attacked some obsolete principles for the sake of more people. Jesus can be considered an outstanding person among the likes of Plato, and Aristotle who are being the highest masterminds in the history of mankind. God by itself should not be described as white or black because given that adjectives cannot be accredited to God in a strict sense because it comes out from the realm of mankind to evaluate something. In an indirect sense, God can be considered as white and good because of creative processes. Musically it is an intriguing stuff due to starting off with a brutal and growling attack within the pigeonhole of mixed black metal/goregrind and after that stark rage it is going to happen. Sorcerer's Sight is a disrupted black noise example with lines and slots coming out from a parallel universe. It is mad and it is desperate where the notes are not resolved and it is like a painful drift through the layer of tortured souls. Stomped Into a Sludge is a hard rock with multiple layers as if all of them being played at the same time. Today the phenomenon is called sludge metal. The apotheosis of the release comes eventually in the final part, at the self-titled composition being a mixture of black noise, radiophonic art and something unidentified additionally. Sounds from a short wave radio are tightly mixed up with snippets and loops from speeches. So it can be said eventually it is a bipolar outing not only with regard to the opposition between brutal metal and black noise but inside the genres as well. Impressive outing from the slot of Torn Flesh Records.

Monoritmo & Rebelo – Farowest EP (2017)

  • Techno
  • Remix
  • Electronic music
  • Dub techno
  • Deep techno
  • Club dance
  • Electro house

Comment: this is my first turn into the discography of Illogical Kit. Far.From.Home starts off with bubblegum-tinged, funky techno and Italo disco in which progressions the listener can perceive some strong if not to say tectonic undercurrents, and fine dub-inflected appearances. So.Simple is a turn toward more deep oscillations where expansive outer space as a premise meets profound inner space impulses to cross the artificial border between them. Furthermore, you can perceive a slight shift within it the artists' music is going to add more house-drenched elements into the blend. Basstic is still a techno example yet wrapped in thick starry dust and nebulous developments. Spicy.Berlin is a deep techno and electro house mixed mongrel which invites you to come to the dance floor. As the release did embark on the funky vibes it would be finished in a similar manner. In a word, it is a solid split and joint work by Monoritmo, and Rebelo.

Yoshida Com – Onna No Kanojo (2014)

  • Electronic music
  • Synth-pop
  • Shibuya-kei
  • Lo-fi
  • DIY
  • Electro pop
  • Alternative dance
  • Acid pop

Comment: this handful of tracks had been created approximately 3 decades ago in Japan on low price yet effectively propelling synthesisers and a drum machine called Alesis HR16. Light-hearted melodies, slightly extended and mutant chord ends, and naive yet catchy cadences with a slight tin-tinged flavour and occasional acidic attacks are composed in a way which can very certainly be considered as Japanese. At times it chimes like an example of pre-electroclash via rough simplification of post-punk music (especially at Scene 7). Thanks to Upitup for finding and exposing the Japanese DIY maverick to a wider audience.

Edith Alonso – Límite (2017)

  • Improvised music
  • Avant-garde
  • Experimentalism
  • Electronic music
  • Micronoise
  • Electro-acoustic
  • Leftfield
  • Drone
  • Live session

Comment: these 21 minutes provide a saturated glimpse into the health of grayish noise. The listener can hear static loaded drones which in turn are enriched by slamming electronic piercing and electro-acoustic clanging. The vicissitude of the release keeps changing throughout the course thereby keeping up interest and welcome tension. I guess someone of us may imagine the whole to collapse eventually but it will not happen though. It is not a sterile but a fertile universe of blurred sounds being fed up by an electric bass, and a synthesiser played by Edith Alonso in a club in Madrid in February 2017. The outing is a bit in the discography of Pan Y Rosas Discos.

Slow Decay – Ghost E.P. (2017)

  • Post-punk
  • Gothic rock
  • Coldwave
  • Alternative rock
  • Epic
  • New wave

Comment: this set of 3 tracks drags up good old post-punk and gothic rock phenomena such combos as an early Cocteau Twins and The Cure, Comsat Angels, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Chameleons. It is led by the distinctive operatic female voice being accompanied by groovy and spacey synthesizers, semi-atmospheric guitars and intense, compelling drums and bass rumbling. Ultimately these elements will create something more, more than just the sum of the instruments. One can perceive a dark, transcendental flow within the upper layers. That`s all we need at a time. This great outing is a part of the discography of Small Bear Records.
