Dronabidoll - Live Animal Feed (2012)

9.2

/Experimental indie, Electro punk, Sampledelic, Breakcore, Psychedelic electronica, Electronic pop, Alternative dance, Electro rock, Alternative/

Comment: Marcel Pichon aka Salon Blodsinn aka Dronabidoll is an exciting, whimsical artist from Sankt Peterburg, Russia whose 6-track publication is filled with lots of forays and hidden textures (because of being so intense, psychedelic and curious by its nature). At times the combo`s music is concentrated in guitar-driven, punk-ish propulsions, sometimes it provides more breaks-induced appearances, at times it is evenly blended with the abovementioned elements). By kindred souls there can be drawn parallels upon the likes of Messer Chups, and Messer Für Frau Müller, a world famous authority from the same city. The issue is released on Running Rabbit (there is another artist, Headless Doll Whores (which is another project by Salon Blodsinn), whose music bases on collages of jazz works by Soviet composers).

SaReGaMa - Spirit of Kalimba (2011)

8.8

/DIY, World music, Musique concrète, Conceptual, Minimal, New Age, Ethnic music/

Comment: this album of 4 compositions represents kalimba music played in an organic way (i.e embellished with the whiffs of concrete music) and an eclectic, ethnic way (mixed up with New Age-esque flutes and didgeridoo-based grouse and din). Behind the project hides himself Serge who is thoroughly keen on Indian music and who has been building instruments to produce music. There is another EP entitled as Solos for Kalimba at Jamendo.

Yutaka Hirasaka - Librecord (2012)

8.9

/Indie folk, Cover, Folk indie, Folktronica, Singer-songwriter/

Comment: this batch of predominantly short-running 6 notches (or just snippets) does base  mostly on moody acoustic guitar arpeggios which are impregnated with slight concrete sounds, swinging, melodium whiffs, however, which may be considered an alternative version of Penguin Cafe Orchestra at times. On the other side, it used to offer up flirt with silence and still life in a delicate way. By the way, there is a cover version of Jane Turzy`s vintage Good Morning Mister Echo (the only composition involving Hirasaka`s vocal). Definitely beatific.

Branches - Ninguém É Como Tu - Reworks (2012)

9.6

/Experimental indie, Post-psychedelic electronica, Alternative, Experimental electronica, Conceptual, Avant-pop/

Comment: this handful of pieces is reworked by different musicians and friends of Branches who is a Portugese musician. More concretely, most of the album`s power is concentrated in (post-) psychedelic propulsions through the realm of minimalist developments relied on elliptical loops of spaced-out synths, droning guitars or alternatively, on thudding rhythm sequences. Magnificent configurations which are full fledged right now
