Buffalo'st on pärit üks lemmikuid -- Mercury Rev; samast linnast on teiseks lemmikuks kujunenud Kevin McFadden'i ühemeheprojekt, mille raames ta üllitab keskmiselt albumi aastas. Esimesed tema teosed anti välja Hollandi plaadifirma WM Recordings 'i alt 12-13 aastat tagasi, järgmised on ilmunud omal käel -- algne suht väänlev eksperimentaalne elektroonika on tasahilju nihkunud uusklassika suunas, samas on ta loonud sellest omanäolise mustri, millesse on kunati kootud sõnalist osa, mikro- ja makromürglit, suupillimängu, varitsevat-pingestavat feedback'i, maitsekat autotune'i, läbi sahisevate raadiolainete esile tungivat häält ja sõnumit. Nihestatus on selle mängu nimi, mille pealmine kiht -- voolavad klaveripassaažid -- on taustaks, mida mööda teised komponendid libisevad ja valivad trajektoore. Nihestatus tungib paratamatult kuulaja kujutelmadesse -- kujutlemas smokingus artisti ontlikus kohas ontlikule publikule tiibklaveri taga mängimas muusikat. Kaasaegse muusika juures näikse häirivat elutus ja pealiskaudsus -- isegi kui vorm on uhke ja mõnikord ka põnev, ei jää see reeglina siinkõnelejat kummitama (eks igat helikandjat tuleb eraldi vaadata). Võrreldud on isegi kaasaegse popi keerukust jätsuga, ent see ei ole argument. Kuulaks siis pigem transgressiivset Stereolab'i, Broadcast'i, Seefeel'i ja Boards of Canada't, milles on ainest, sügavust ja stiili rohkem. Põnevam on pöörduda minevikku oma isade-emade ja isegi vanaisade-vanaemade manu, kes tegid mussi põnevalt ja hingestatult. Näiteks Kraftwerk, The Silver Apples, John Cage, Faust, Harmonia, Brian Eno, keda on mainitud Itaalia artisti mõjutajatena. Ega's ka Eliane Radigue, Delia Derbyshire, Neu!, Tangerine Dream ning Ash Ra Tempel ei ole külgi mööda maha jooksnud. See on tegelikult hämmastav, kui elav oli varane elektronmuusika. Käesolev on mööndustega kosmiline psühhedeelia Moog-süntesaatorite supis, viies inimesi helgesse tulevikku, mida tegelikkuses kunagi ei tule. Tõsi, loos "The Un Popular 01" olevad orientaalsed mõjud ja kerge madalsageduslik vaib vihjavad Muslimgauze'i esteetikale -- sealt edasi osutuspunktile ja piirialale, mis on ühtaegu nii ühendav kui konfliktne. Varasemast on käesolev autor esindatud päeva lugudega kolmel korral blogis -- olen markeerinud Hoehl'i muusikat küll droonmuusikana, küll ämbiendina (nii tava- kui tumevariandina), isegi New Age-virvenduste ja progressiivelektroonikana. Ka mikrotonaalsus on läbiv märge. Käesolev teos püüab tulnukate signaale avakosmosest, mis on ühtaegu nii kasin kui ülev protsessi ja tulemusena. Droonhelid kõlavad kohati (pool)sümfooniana, mis siiski näikse avaruumis kihutavat tohutul kiirusel tundmatusse; siiski pakkudes vaheldust emotiivset pinget kruttides ja maandades. Kohatine polüfoonia on rabav -- seda nii väheste muutuste, spetsiifilise vibratsiooni, inimhääl(utust)e kui tektooniliste efektide kasutamisega. Isegi helikriukse-läägamist on sisse kootud. Eraldi tooksin välja loo "Go Into Exile", mis kõlab sarnaselt mõne kosmilise postrokk-kombo või atmosfäärilise kingapõrnitsemispundiga. Tõepoolest -- kitarrid, trummid, tagurpidi raadavad heliefektid mõlemas helikanalis --, millest omakorda kasvab välja hõõguv bassine droon -- tekitavad uue sünteesina meeliülendavat hingeärritust. Kindlasti üks selle aasta lemmikalbumeid.

Hollandi helialkeemiku käesolev üllitis ilmus rohkem kui kolm aastat pärast keset Covid-19 pandeemiat ja sellest ajendatud albumit "Harlemmerhout" -- eesmärgiks pakkuda konkreethelide abil tröösti sulus inimestele. Mäletavasti kasutas ta kodulinna Haarlemi pargis salvestatud helisid. Nüüdseks on pandeemiline situatsioon kardinaalselt muutunud, ent heli seetõttu nii põhjalikult ei muutu. Konkreethelid on jätkuvalt esindatud, piisavalt on elektroakustilisi katsetusi, ka tuulekelli meenutavad improvisatsioonid on kohal -- siuksed pehmed ja nunnud akordid siia-sinna kiikumas. COP-i tugevus on seisnenud abstraktse tuttavliku heliga edukalt ristamises; sinna vahele-peale-ümber-alla igasuguseid helikatsetusi -- pärishelidest väljaarendatud rütmid, kiirendatult keriv droonheli, mis mingil hetkel omandab udupasunate mõõtme ning lõppeb -- üllatus-üllatus -- saksofoni soologa. Mis ta tegelikult nii väga üllatus on -- sobib ju suurepäraselt otsa! Avaloo "Cuero Nero" eepiline, koguni pompöösne ilu (milles on natuke nii Arvo Pärti, Fennesz'it kui Tim Hecker'it) sai astendatult loogilise otsa. Kuigi kontseptualistid võivad viriseda hollandlase muusikalise hüperaktiivsuse peale, veab artist helilises meisterlikkuses igati välja.
