Comment: it is probably one of the most favourite releases by The Bordellos for me where the soaring dynamics through raw sounds and vivid dodges comes to the surface. It is like The Fall meets Faust in a way. Beaming galvanised guitars and subtle electronics are mingled with sassy vocals and singing manner. Furthermore, having been very characteristic to The Bordellos throughout the discography they used to add fragmented Americana influences to the mix. But not only – the whole Free Download Generation as a track chimes like a piss out Americana pickup on clumsy folk and awkward rockabilly. The most uncanny track is Disco Pants with the offbeat frequency in the rhythmic measure being accompanied by acidic electronics and gravity-free singing as if produced by the unforgettable Arthur Russell. I don`t even know is it either a dance track or an anti-dance statement. In a word, give a heck to it because it will transport you somewhere else from this nowadays overproduced and overloaded pop rock to some very roots of rock and punk music with its own idiosyncratic touch.

Comment: the term "circadian" does mean of relating to biological processes at 24-hour interval. I guess the main adjectives to describe the process are iterative, analogous, unvarying and consistent. The Finnish artist's 10-notch release is thought to illustrate it through the language of sounds. Minimally changing elements and rhythmical impulses within Thuoom's breathing and organic universe. There are up a thousands of ambient releases worldwide but Thuoom's power is to find out an idiosyncratic slot within it. Of course, I have described it a little bit in a negative and artificial manner because I don't think altogether his premise is to face off against someone's music; instead of it his plan is to think off his own sound in an organic and natural way. In general, he employs natural and artificial electronic sounds to bound them together which in turn adds a breathing and thereby mystical substance to the whole (by that point the outing can be compared with such an artist as Alio Die). As the artist's previous issues the recent one has been issued on his own imprint Textural Healing. Quite simple by its initial elements to embark on yet highly impressive by establishing the album as a whole.

Comment: The Peach Tree is the solo project of Angus Maiden whose is being known as a Melbourne, Australian maverick in sonic creation. An indie man with more heavy leanings in aesthetic preferences. Throughout the course of 12 tracks the listener can perceive this stylistically wobbling enterprise based mostly on the industrial rock template. In a word, boxy guitars and set-up machine rhythms are intertwined with electronic layers and loaded boats of electrified energy. Yet his grip is remarkably broader due to dodges into murky dungeon synthesiser realm and fragmented and convulsive world music (a fascinating composition called Ganesh) and also riff-based hard rock at Blind. Furthermore, On A River is a profound insight into a beatific moment while spending your time being far away from the civilization and being affected by the natural elements as one's genuine brothers only. Place Of Out is a drift between the aforementioned dungeon industrial progressions and muffled storytelling. Just an acoustic guitar and one phrase singing are up there as a way to partake in meditation being backed up by an atmospheric synthesised layer. In a word, it is a solid glimpse into Angus Maiden's versatile world. It will take you by surprise even if you are listening to it a third or fourth time in a row. It unveils many sonic surprises followed by other ones and ultimately you can perceive the fine balance between the technical and moody side. That's all what we need from a decent music outing.

Comment: this swarm of 10 tracks cannot be considered a triumph of unconsciousness only, it is a triumph of music, it is a triumph of voluptuous listening sensations. While listening to it I watched a football match from the TV on mute and the play seemed to be even more attractive. It seemed to be consisting of dynamics while being framed by the nature of still life. That's cool. It chimes partly like the upload of a Moon Safari yet it is a different case eventually due to conveying cosmic electro impulses to the listener`s head. It is an example of very up-to-date pop music which is not going to age in the future. The ending track Word is a decent bow toward Tricky and his Pre-Millenium Tension (1996). Undoubtedly it has been one of the most enchanting issues in 2017 so far and beyond that not being the first entrance by an excellent imprint, blocSonic being added to the list. Viktor Van River is the one-man-project of Viktor Chuprin from Kazakhstan (by the way, it is an immensely better way spending your time rather than watching loathing Borat).

Comment: I insistently recommend listen to this 3-track outing because it is so fluffy and deep at the same time. Indeed, approximately 20 years ago the last named adjective was employed to describe deep house, and deep techno, for instance. With regard to the term “techno” the set is strongly imbued with acid techno and house influences having been popular in the UK approximately 25-30 years ago. Let`s call it post-rave music. The warehouses are demolished but the memories of them are still up there though slightly blurred and thereof mixed up with other genres either (for instance, the dub influence is also represented over there). The beat is straightforward and loud and psychedelic as if setting out the plan to re-create a new dance revolution. In a nutshell, it is a fairly pleasant listening time being commissioned by Illogical Kit Netlabel. Zelde 743 is a duo from Poland who already started off in the eighties.

Comment: when the UK-based artist Hanetration sent me the link of this outing at Bandcamp he said he would hope this album would get enough attention due to its special nature. In fact, all the previous Hanetration`s issues are being idiosyncratic ones with highly leftfield and experimental edges. Yet this handful of tracks may be considered a universe within a universe because I cannot remember for Hanetration would have been chimed in that spaced-out way. I reminds me a little bit of the end of the 90s and the beginning of the 00s in my domestic Estonia while listening to such artists as Uni (“dream” in English), Galaktlan, Von Suck the artists whose oeuvre would like to tag as ulmetronica. “Ulme” does mean “science fiction” in the narrow sense of this word. In the broader sense it is the opposite word to “olme”. It does mean something very usual something that you are doing and you have to do in your everyday`s life. In a more indirect sense, having deal with such sort of sound it is a way to escape, to go elsewhere, it is a sort of transcendental experience. In fact, Hanetration is very kind to provide such sort of sound. In a gross sense, it is a subtle mix of space music, ambient and techno. In a sublime sense, it excels at these borders to create something beatific and otherworldly. It might be that a die-hard fan could find this release to be somehow a compromise but by my opinion it is a new substance of sound in his discography. Indeed, it can be considered majestic but it is not a play of shallow, flat postures; you can perceive something majestically noisy coming out from this magic pot. I am sure it is the most pre-eminent issue by Hanetration at least at emotional level. One of the best issues in 2017.

Comment: this set of 8 tracks clocking in at a 17 minute only is based on fragmented and slowed-down (trip-hop) beats being adorned with different kind of speech samples (with regard to music production). I can remember for that the Spaniard Mikel Martínez`s first outings (Health Needs; Buenas Son Tortas) were clearly more post-rock, indie(tronica) and folk(tronica)-tinged, however, this set of tracks is produced to be fully without any guitars (though obviously employing more exotic instruments). (No I am being wrong – 84 Years employs guitars, though). So it can be said the artist will have moved on to new terrains. For me, however, the technical and instrumental side of the albums is not the most important thing in music. I like those cinematic samples which used to appear here at times. Furthermore, it can be said microscopic moody moments are variegated with more arousing, beatific peaks (at Waveforms, for instance). The release is emotionally vectorised. The whole is coherent among its particles you are not allowed to feel a slacker flow throughout the course. Of course, with regard to the contemporary sample-based urban music we cannot deny the influence of Flying Lotus. The solid outing is a part of the discography of Dusted Wax Kingdom.

Comment: undoubtedly music which is based on fun and a primitive base may paradoxically be more serious than seriously intended music. Of course, it might be the case of proper adjectives but this set of 12 compositions is a frantic example of disparate elements which starts off with the sound of a cheap second-hand synthesiser, however, later incorporating strings and freaky singing to the mix. biche is an example of motorik electro rock though it did start off with the buffoonish mantra and continuing with a spoken word snippet and some concrete sounds here and there. Do I perceive it in a schizoid way? No, I do not. Johnny Bigoudi is a seminal crossroad for heavy beats and droning synths to get harmonized in a poignant way. All the lyrics are sung in French except the one phrase /like Sonic Youth/ at Trou. Indeed, I also like Sonic Youth though not so much as… . Or like Sonic Youth. This whole is not like Sonic Youth though. In spite of this enormous miscellany the whole will not water down and being convincing due to revealing its coherent nature ultimately (it is paradoxical, isn`t?). Many tracks within involve psychedelic layers with acidic organs and toy-like electronic sounds. The issue is a part of the discography of such a label as Les Diks Qui Sautent (065).

Comment: MDL4, an artist from Sacramento, California, USA makes a little bit difference within the last albums I have heard from the discography of the Bulgarian imprint Dusted Wax Kingdom, a fine record based on samples and crunchy beats thereof constituting a whole universe for our sake. The difference is based on more smooth transitions from one sample to another, more organic shifts from one beat to another, more subtle drifts from one style to another which also include more profound, cinematic reflections and stylistic movements. In a word, you can extract something magically elegant from within. The opening track Time Stamp is based on the storytelling of an estranged relationship. Sunwalker is the thick bound of a thrilling electro cadence and a massive big beat rhythm. Waves is about sublime, lofty waves as if coming out of your subconscious mind and at the same time having an influence as a tranquiliser. Old Waters is an astounding underground hip-hop appearance based on thick and gleaming beats and cut-up vowel effects. Starborn is an astral break-out based on suggestive electric piano chords and otherworldly synthesised layers. These ones were only some descriptions of this amazing whole. In my music player the 11-track issue will be finished off by Leaper which I would like to call muezzin-hop. Great stuff. In a nutshell, I am going to insert it into a list of the best issues in 2017. Into the list of the best issues in 2017 which is already up there at Recent Music Heroes.

Comment: I am honoured to listen to Kara-Lis Coverdale`s music who is a Canadian (Montrèal) musician of Estonian descent, and second, she has collaborated with Tim Hecker on his Virgins (2013) whose albums from the first half of the 00s can be considered one of the best ambient music having ever been created. Triptych (as the title says) is 3-track issue consisting of floating piano chords which create arousing moods and feeling despite its minimal and sparse format in a sense. The emotiveness of the outing is brought forth due to consisting of an incessant flow of chord changes while preserving some enchanting iterativeness in her music. As K-LC has stated once of being influenced by sacred music and beyond that she has been working as an organist in different churches across the domestic country for me this album appears as a shelter within it one can withdraw from our spasmodic and neurotic life. Her music can be compared with such artists as Max Richter, Nils Frahm, Lubomyr Melnyk (another Canadian modern classical artist) and by its light-heartedness and captivating mood it can also be compared with such female troubadours on guitar as Vashti Bunyan, Linda Perhacs yet this is a special item by any means.

Comment: indeed, this set of 10 tracks embraces covers and the unplugged session with vocal and acoustic guitar and all this set of 25 and a half minute is played in the vein of agit-pop (based on the intensely strumming guitars, and straightforward and clear vocal line). The artist provides attention to such artists as Green Day, Operation Ivy, The Ramones, The Descendent, Social Distortion, No Use For A Name, Alkaline Trio, The Bouncing Souls, MXPX, and The Vandals. If you have not made acquaintance with the artists and songs before that yet it is time to do it now with regard to compare the original oeuvre with the cover versions. In fact, for me that agit-pop edge adds a welcome edge to the original ones. The more I listen to it the more I like it. The outing is a part of the discography of Indonesian imprint Ear Alert Records.

Comment: Aracely Sánchez (voice), Alan Vargas (guitar), and Arturo Villalobos (the drums) from Mexico do synthesise something truly reverent through a powerful attitude toward the metal and power rock tradition. Of course, the best elements from the genres are picked up to be added to the 10-track mix. Tortured ghost loaded smouldering thick energy used to keep going on fast pace around the voice of Aracely, and the instruments of Alan, and Arturo. Indeed, it is possible to put together lurking elements and fast tempo on this album throughout the course. The listener can perceive the burning circle around the chords as if an example of the representation of flaming rings in the middle of purgatory. A strength feature of this issue? In fact, it features no weak and self-indulgent moments in production and general appearance. The outing is a part of the discography of Naciòn Libre. An outstanding trash/stoner/doom melted album. By listening to it one will create his/her own mosh pit in front of his/her computer or sofa or somewhere else.

Comment: this set of 21 tracks (or sketches) can be considered a grower. The grower in that sense you will discover many interesting nuances after a bunch of listening times. Undoubtedly it is a mischievous release because the Finnish artist is not interested in developing certain themes but is already ready to make frantic dodges as if zooming in and out incessantly. Because of that pattern it reminds of music being vamped up in the mind set of dada. The issue was outed by WM Recordings, and it reminds of another release from the imprint`s discography, Brunk`s Insert Coin To Continue (2009). In truth, with regard to the release years the proposition should be said vice versa. Of course, the whole is not without exceptions. For instance, at Vuono 18 one can hear enchanting electro house progressions with a midnight vibe. Vuono 17 is a beatific glimpse on the base of a dusty organ chords. Vuono 16 is a bewildering electro funk at its best. All music had been conjured up with Amiga 500 running OctaMED sound tracker program and was recorded to c-cassette in 1994-1995. In a word, you must listen to this eminent and fabulous release.

Comment: I did not expect such sort of music being released on the Netherlands-based imprint 2419 Record Label. My earlier experiences with the imprint were related to more experimental angles and structures but this one started off with a straightforward, flamboyant song which continues to go the same vein where doleful singing is backed up by the plucking of acoustic guitar, and slightly orchestrated vowels all of that a bit resembling Robert Smith. Like a very light, unplugged version of The Cure. Way too bombastic and transparent while providing no X-factor for a more sniffy listener. Nice ditties for the AOR station though.

Comment: this couple of tracks is imbued with concrete sounds, guitar twangs, synthesised gongs and gentle yet compelling electronic beats with intention to conjure up a mystical world somewhere in the middle of tropical warmth, sultry raining as if letting surface a fairy tale alike ambience. It is way too beatific to be a subject of belief. It partly reminds me of such an artist as it is Tont from Estonia whose soundscapes are similarly otherworldly and wondrous. Jokingly, this is a way of how the New Age musicians make folk music. Realm of Rain was the third single by the artist being released on Mothermantra Records. The sort of ideal music indeed.

Comment: this set of three tracks (classified as B-sides) from Hull, Quebec, Canada is a provoking rock example with crashing guitars, screaming and weeping vocals in French and a minimised amount of electronic music. That's weird in its dadaist approach while being somehow lofty at the same time, that's also artsy and inspiring. It harks back to an experimental compartment of post-punk (in fact, post-punk as a style was being mostly experimental and seminal anyway) to such combos as Ludus (a favourite combo of Moz), and This Heat, but by contemporaneous combos it a little bit resembles ranting Fly Pan Am, another French Canadian combo. The issue is a part of the discography of E-Tron Rec., and Boiled Records.

Comment: it is not a wordy and magniloquent issue enough because of being inspired by krautrock, by Neu!, an early Kraftwerk and Faust, the combos who liked move on across a minimal, the so-called motorik pattern. Yet the recent motorik pace based on 14 tracks is a bit different and refreshing. Trillion Catz comes out from Berlin, Germany, a fruitful soil to develop new genres. On the other side, which role is to bear by the musician? To provide the matter, the sound for allowing the listeners to escape from the burden of exhausting sensations, to reach aletheia, to ascend his/her nature into a godlike person. To partake in a systematic, coherent universe. In reality, it does mean to crawl against the mainstream, against the hyper-sexualized and monetary world and the excessive flow of information or to get in touch with them as less as needed. A person's goal should be intended to be less vulgar and mediocre and brainwashed. Is Vulgar a good medium to withdraw him/her from it? The answer of mine is pure yes because it is clearly balanced between those slightly haphazard electronic impulses yet in turn synthesising something new for our aural world. Those miniaturised sounds and effects do set up something unusual and exciting. If to compare it to the aforementioned krautrock juggernauts it may be more (self)-aware of how to elegantly disturb a historical krautrock bound yet at the same time preserving the tight connection with it. That's logical because the first ones had created it while Trillion Catz is deconstructing it. This outstanding (one of the best in 2017) release which adds to krautrock as a style an additional value and meaning is a part of the Japanese imprint Bump Foot.

Comment: this 9-notch issue comes out from Russia, it is a collaborative issue between Alex Mason, and The Minor Emotion. Its formula is simple – lone, minor piano tapped chords being accompanied by soaring synthesised orchestrated progressions which at times are being bent into murky, neoclassical sadness. Emotionally it is hard to measure the impact of the whole upon the listener. Undoubtedly it is epic but on the other side it might be a bit anemic to feed one's the most profound, transcendental ideas. If you need more vivid colours to be inserted into your every day's life then you have to listen to it while watching outside from the window or just walking in the middle of autumnal beauty and decay. Indeed, maybe concrete sounds and sonic effects could add a more organic touch to the whole. The result is a bit flat out in its sheared and predictable dynamics and two dimensional shift. The outing is a part of the discography of Enoughrecords.

Comment: I would like to call this set of 8 tracks an instance of old school indie. More profoundly, I mean the music coming out from the 80s, the 90s, and the 00s by the US-based indie mavericks such as Galaxie 500, Yo La Tengo, and Low (with regard to their more restrained moments). On the other side, the issue was released in the middle of the 00s which was the heyday of the Weird New America movement. I really liked and still like such indie chicks who produce lo-fi tinged droning organ/harmonium-based indie being accentuated with blissful melodies and wondrous harmonies. The sort of music where simple elements meet complicated ones yet the flow of it is flawlessly organic and dynamic having been recorded on a 4-track cassette machine. It makes you relaxed and withdraws you from shitty topics around you for a while. It is the meditation. For instance, listen to the ending track Preston Parker which saves one`s soul due to vibrant droning and enchanting female singing. The same can be said about the rest of the 18-minute release. The issue is a part of the discography of Rain Above Records. Without any hesitation it will be added to the compartment – Outstanding music.

Comment: it is one of the most voluminous if not the most voluminous release having ever been appeared at RMH. It clocks in at a 197 minute (based on the set of 24 tracks) which exceeds more than 3 hours of pure music. The reason is actually simple – it encompasses all the sounds having been produced by the artist. The status of the combo is unknown due to health problems, and collaborative disagreements between the members. The only constant member behind the project has been Tim Van der Schraelen from Antwerp, Belgium, and the members also have been Mattia P. (Italy), Theofil Tsiolakakis (Thessaloniki, Greece), and Joseph (Athens, Greece). In truth, a couple of tracks are added as the oeuvre by Drowned In The Sewers (a collaborative act between Tim, and Theofil). Contingently I tagged the music as post-industrial (among many other tags) because it is a contemporary example of industrial music though by its attitude, approach and characteristics of sound it may even more remind of early old school industrial and noise music acts like Zoviet France, for instance. Second, it also comes very close to neoclassical and dark wave artists because in some tracks the soundscapes are loaded with ominous and depressive seeds and even sickening milieus reflecting upon the shortness and decay of the human being`s life. Indeed, that has always been a moral statement of such sort of music. Given the extent of time, and the nature of music the listener can be very sure to be flooded by intriguing sounds and obscure and morbid moods of different kind. Experiments with disparate timbres and varied rhythms. And you should be warned again – it is very far away from an innocent fun. It more a kind of music providing you a stark accompaniment while walking through a catacomb or a graveyard. Such sort of sound (I mean noise music) is universal in a way because it used to incorporate so many sounds within it (lo-fi, spoken word, sample-based music/plunderphonics, electronic music, drone, improvised music, ambient, electro-acoustic) and while needing no any further categorization and explanation. It is more about the method rather than about certain sounds. The style is being an all-devouring phenomenon. The prodigious issue both by its physical, psychic and intellectual extent is a part of the discography of Etched Traumas, the imprint headed by the same Joseph being mentioned above.

Comment: recently Italian quartet Bongley Dead released a brand new one, Undici, on their own terms being uploaded and letting available for free download at Soundcloud, and Mediafire. Before that they had issued 4, the predecessor of Demo n.3 (2014). In comparison to its predecessor 4 abandons trudging across a path being based on heavy and moshy alternative rock guitars (though Demo n.3 includes exceptions either – even hints at dance punk/rock were represented over there). The guitars are more extended and outstretched, light-hearted and jangling in their timbre and style of play. Yet one should not forget and misunderstand it is not an example of jangle pop because the combo is being influenced and rooted by hardcore and (post-)grunge music. For instance, Blueworms is a pure example of post-grunge style with a commercially accessible tone. Nice pop song indeed. Similarly to the previous outing a Sonic Youth influence (especially at Silent Queen) is also present over there yet it is more buried as it was presented in some songs at Demo n.3. A poppy Sonic Youth version. At She Comes Too Late the ending part is accentuated with epic shoegaze tinged noises. It can be admitted their style seems to be more uniform and unvarying with regard to the previous one. By the way, they are being very kind by adding 41 cover prints (sic!) within the folder. I did have to choose only one from this bunch. Because of having listened to the great album a next step of mine is to listen to Undici.
