Comment: Ladies and gentlemen! We are floating in space! Ehh…where exactly is that place we are going to fly and maybe even conquer. There exists inner space additionally to Outer Space, which are seamlessly related to each other – the first one is subjugated to the latter or at least being a minor, intangible part of it. The musicians around the world have explored and tried to chart the inner limits of our more or less subliminal psyche at different times. Furthermore, the term “space” is being frequently related to something, which could be described as “with-it, cutting-edge” because the human being has had not enough power to date to reach more distant cosmic objects and bigger distances in Outer Universe though the desire to do it existed already long ago. However, the legendary imprint Comfort Stand Recordings put it into practice through music, through a set of 2 hours and 35 minutes that it is a blissful blend of diverse styles that works out like a tremendous maelstrom, which in turn involves an innumerable amount of special universes in the nexus of it. And so on until one’s brain will explode. More profoundly, those sonorous seeds within it are witty, clever, arousing, grandeur, at times very funny and even buffoonish, blissful and…otherworldly. Because of that I feel by myself the whole fairly dignifies me and inspires respect against people, beasts and the Almighty Creator. And of course, it is culturally and narratively important because of embracing many hints at essential space-related things. Last but not least there are represented such artists as big celestrial orchestre, Full Load Of King, R Stevie Moore, Ton Rückert, Gulag Picture Radio, Fortyone, Laze, Atton Paul, Lungbutter, Howard Ambient, Archbishop Jason Polland, The Pan-Galactic All Stars, sciflyer, Astrochimp, Weirdomusic, komafuzz, Lee Rosevere, Jan Turkenberg, AP3S, The Apartment, Nova Social, Dana Countryman, Bruce Lenkei, Wild Acoustic Chamber Orchestra, Mr. Fab, Eddie the Rat, LowLiFi, Jack Fetterman and the in Hi-Fi Music Direction, Seksu Roba, The Vivisectors, Lullabelle, Sascha Müller, The Lounge King Meets Monsieur Max, Inzah, and B.C Sterret w/Janae Olson.

Transfer_ERROR – Out_KILLER (2004)

  • Industrial electro
  • Lo-fi
  • Ambient
  • Abstract
  • EBM
  • Avant-garde
  • Digital Hardcore
  • Noise
  • Rhythmic noise
  • Psychedelic
  • Drone
  • Non music
  • Art music

Comment: this bunch of 11 tracks starts off in my music player with the composition 58286788 which used to run in the vein of digital hardcore in general though yet there one could hear solitary brownish sonic shards and muddy audible glimpses giving the way to many branches elsewhere. Indeed, I am not wrong at all to suggest about the course of the release in that way. It is getting more obscure and getting more stoned being imbued with abrasive noises, glitch-coated atmospheric outputs, abstract noise imbued drones, ill-omened synth swirls and filthy lead motives in the meantime. All of that is amplified by low-end bass rumbles to jump in and out independently. On the other side, such composition as IRL taps into EBM-alike rhythms and ill fortune presaging buried chants, however, it might be the most “poppy” on the whole. Alt_ctrl_DEL is the favourite of mine because of somehow reminding of My Bloody Valentine`s outsider track Touched on Loveless by its dichotomous structure. The more you listen to this whole the more you will get involved in this frenetic buildup. It is very impressive statement by the Frenchman from Marseille, Laurent Mekka.

Scrubber Fox - Food In The Bins EP (2004)

  • Breakcore
  • Electro
  • Glitch-hop
  • Bhangra
  • Crossover
  • Experimental electronica
  • Illbient
  • Tekno
  • Urban music

Comment: Behind the nom de plume hides himself Wigan, The United Kingdom-based Gary Naylor who classifies himself as a musician, sound designer, performance artist, A/V artist and DJ. He is also being known as a member in a group called Sadistic Foxician. In a word, he seems to be ein tolles Junge as Germans used to say. It is undoubtedly obvious that Food In The Bins EP is a challenging listening even 12 years later at the point the issue was firstly released. More profoundly, it is all about warped, glitched-out hip-hop aesthetic, frantically mutilated and broken rhythms in the vein of electro and tekno frequencies and there are also up intense bhangra vibes and vowel endeavours. Although it seems to be a highly playful one it is frequnetly imbued with omnious illbient vapor and ill-omened sonic shades as if foresseing impending doom (it is more clearly perceivable at Shit On My Twat). The most important thing about it all is all of that to be the powerful platform for synergistic emergence of a modern urban sound which is not weak, fake or something adverse and inferior. Furthermore, it is much greater than the sum of its parts. In a word, this handful of pieces as a whole should be considered as a classic one. Without hesitation for doing it. Check out for his other issues at Hippocamp, and Bandcamp either.

enLounge – Locked When Lit (2004)

  • Deep house
  • Dub
  • Nu jazz
  • Crossover
  • Mood music
  • Chill out
  • Sampledelic
  • Breaks
  • Electro house

Comment: this jackass issue comes of out the year 2004 being released on Aquavelvas imprint. There are up a loads of sonorous elements juxtaposed against each other or piled up in an enchanting way. By listening to this 3-track outing and regarding the title of the artist one could discern lounge appealed sounds converted into a contemporary counterpart. More profoundly, dub inflections, electronic jazz touches, ethnic drums and deep house frequencies and hip-hop chants and disparate sonic odds and ends (whistles, meandering synth developments, ecstatically looping rhythms) are put to the forefront to conjure up spaced-out associations within the listener`s head. Gorgeous. On the whole, 17 minutes with it one couldn`t say no.

Jonathon Roberts & Scott Hawlay – Prayer (2004)

  • Avant-garde
  • Drone
  • Abstract
  • Noise
  • Conceptual
  • Remix
  • Post-classical
  • Experimentalism

Comment: there is not much to know about this 3-track composition but it was the first issue in the discography of Luv Sound. One cannot find out even the release date of the album because it lacks this kind of information at the file/release information and at Discogs. Furthermore, I still do know nothing about Scott Hawlay and what he has produced so far. However, I guess the issue had been released sometime in 2004 while the imprint started to work. Jonathon Roberts is a contemporary composer of having obviously classical music background. The title track deserves its name where prayer-alike singing with extended chords and glistening points is accompanied by droning cello and cathedral organ-alike reflections eventually resulting in the epic peak. The next piece is Prayer: Mom and Pop (remix by the Eviscerator Reanimator) is a stoned deconstruction of the first one. It is filled with crackling noises and wobbling sonic waves to be the ambiance for a bleak sonic glimpse coming out of it. The last piece is the instrumental version of Prayer. In a word, the result is enchanting in its dark and white shadow play.

Stakka – Alone EP (2004)

  • IDM
  • Glitchtronica
  • Experimental electronica
  • Minimal techno
  • Glitch-hop
  • Experimental techno

Comment: this 6-track package is a fabulous mix of crunchy rhythms, synthesised wobbles and glitched-out noises flitting in around by the Polish producer Stakka. Given that the outing had been issued in 2004 this might be a quite ordinary practice to take on minimal techno/IDM rhythms, catchy melody lines and beautiful harmonies by following the influence of such labels as Mille Plateaux, and Morr Music then. However, the best time to test the quality of music is to do it many years after the release date of an issue (it is similar to be done with regard to historical events). Here we come in approximately 11 years later. I have no complains, I have no hints at something which could have done in a better way. All is equilibrated all is measured in a proper way. Furthermore, the Polish producer deviates from the aforementioned formula because of providing a couple of nervous hip-hop/glitch-hop compositions which truly make difference (Mosaik, Lucky People). In a word, get this gem which is a part of the discography of the Montrèal, Quebec, Canada based imprint Camomille which had been led by Vincent Fugère aka Muhr.

Minoy/Zannoy - Deaf Mix for Jake Hobo (1986/2004)

/Freeformfreakout, Spoken word, Noise, Sampledelic, Psycho-acoustic, Electronic, Sound art, Experimentalism, Avant-garde, Plunderphonics, Non-music, Acousmatic music/

Comment: these 44 minutes are another instance of huge legacy which is left by Keith Bowsza (1951-2010) aka Minòy. The US-based artist who released his music mostly in the 80s, however, finished off producing music in 1992. Later on, he was being known under the name Haint by taking on the black and white photo paintings. Deaf Mix for Jake Hobo is a collaboration album with another US-based noise/experimental/sound art musician Zan Hoffman. As the title might suggest the duo deals with hearing and perception problems. Moreover, these 44 minutes used to disorientate the listener because of involving a shitloads of abrupt turns and changes in sonic fabric and colours. It includes many samples pulled out from unknown sources. However, these loans are intertwined in a way to yield new, uncannily frightening contexts and mind-shifting impulses. In a word, it is an example of sample-based art, however, reflecting upon neuropathic problems which excruciated Keith Bowsza throughout his lifetime. At times Bowsza and Hoffman use slowed-down and pitched-up algorithms to spice up their occasionally lethargic soundscape. The listener can discern those warm analogue tones and timbres being so characteristic to the 80s. Of course, I recommend to dig up other Minòy and Zan Hoffman`s issues either which were being an important part of the 80s cassette culture movement. The album was initially released under the Elevation of Anxiety sub-label in 1986. At the moment it is a part of Zan Hofman`s zh27.

Sophie Rimheden - rwb001 (2014)

/Electronic pop, Art pop, Post-disco/

Comment: this 2-track issue was the first in the discography of racewillbegin, a Swedish record label. The result overcomes the listener with emotions and perceptual stimuli. More concretely, the tracks called Hold Me, and Wanting are crunchy electronic explorations moving across the line of pop music and post-disco. Furthermore, the artist reveals her ambitious side in these compositions – these ones are fairly attention-getting and enchanting pop examples. Great breaks, melody progressions and charming autotune mixed vocal lines. Despite its synthetic nature the whole is replete with enough oxygen. Get it for you.

Bauri - rwb004 (2004)

/Remix, Electronic pop, Post-rock, Experimental rock, Alternative dance, Synth pop/

Comment: this issue contains a couple of tracks both of them are remixes on their own. The first of them is a Bauri´s remake with the assistance of glitteringly dreamy synthesizers and bouncy sequencing being laid out somewhere in between the dance floor and private pop listening. The other one is Erik Levander`s post-rock-ish insight through low-key guitar chords, vinyl-alike crackle drenched background and some seductive vowel effects. The result is an astonishing bound of an electronic/dance music and experimental rock output. The issue is a part of Racewillbegin, a Swedish record label which had existed in the first half of 00s.

The Go! Team - Rwb003 (2004)

/Indie rock, Alternative pop, Brass pop, Southern rock, Psychedelic rock, Sunshine pop/

Comment: this couple of tracks was issued some months before The Brighton-based (Great Britain) sextet surfaced to the limelight thanks to their highly acclaimed debut album Thunder, Lightning, Strike (Memphis Industries). These 7 minutes used to constitute a solid span for enjoying great guitar music being mixed up with cinematic woodwind drenched motives and suggestive piano chords. However, although they come out of Europe the combo´s sound and aesthetics remind more of the US-based tradition (the so-called Southern rock). One of the songs (Junior Kickstart) would also be  represented on the debut issue. The result is fabulous and hilarious at the same time.

Revolution Void - Increase the Dosage (2004)

/Nu jazz, Acid jazz, Breaks, Electronic, Club jazz, Alternative, Mood music/

Comment: Jonah Dempcy aka Revolution Void`s 11-track issue crosses jazzy progressions and mellow woodwind, electric piano, reed organ and vibraphone based instrumentation with gritty programmed beats which eventually result in genuinely moody hovers and entertaining 68 minutes. All these sounds and layers used to swirl in a frenzied way. Besides Dempcy the activity is provided by many musicians (Matthew Garrison, Seamus Blake, Darryl Estes, Nicolas Manel, Michael Shrieve, Gino Yevdjevich, Ill-esha, Steven Burke, James Rotondi, Dave Hill Jr).

Tomas Nordström ‎– Untitled (2004)

/Electro pop, Alternative dance, Techno pop, Robot pop, Covers, Chiptune, Autotune/

Comment: The Swede Tomas Nordström`s 2-track issue is based on cover versions (Kylie Minogue, and Kelis). Minogue`s Slow is airy and natural thanks to Chill`s sensual yet self-confident vocal delivery. The robot pop meets soul music. This should have reached a hit status. Kelis` Milkshake is a remarkably more autotuned and chip bomb loaded fresco. I like those primitive yet fairly catchy sonic templates beneath the vocal lines delivering a dynamic touch to the whole. In a word, it is a highly commendable issue from the year 2004.

The Lonesome Executive - The Lonesome Executive's Fantastic Tape Recorder (2004)

9.5

/New Weird Israel, Experimentalism, Weird folk, Free folk, Avant-garde, Dream folk/

Comment: though this issue involves 19 tracks in total all these tracks without any exceptions are short-running. More concretely, these miniatures are filled with clattering improvised noises, elfin folk flickers and abstract insights and acute expressions drifting somewhere in between dadaist interferences and somewhat otherworldly explorations. Indeed, there can be drawn parallels upon the likes of CocoRosie, and Wavves, though, providing even more angular, more primitive which thereby might be a more challenging one. Furthermore, there are up a handful of tracks inducing to bleed your hurt and soul. Frantic. The issue is released on an Israeli label, called Birdsong (the second album in its discography).
