Gallo'84 – Shimano (2018)

  • Ambient
  • Ambient drone
  • Microtonal
  • Minimalism
  • Abstract

  • Drone
  • Ambient
  • Post-industrial
  • Avant-garde
  • Experimentalism
  • Noise
  • Minimalism
  • Electronic music
  • Kosmische Musik

Comment: this batch of 4 compositions is created by Portuguese experimental musician Aires who continues keep exploring the interface between ambient, noise, drone and minimalism relied on many releases. By doing it a listener can perceive post-industrial rays to explore either delightful ambient fields and blissful Kosmische Musik terrains or more tumultuous droning and acute noisy explorations (from harsh, signal-led white noise to more gritty brown noises). There have been a thousands of constructive and destructive machines around us for a thousands of years so regarded that let's call it all Aires' (elegant) machine. It involves a restless balance between threatening, destructive glimpses of the past and of ongoing present and upcoming future and on the other side there are up pleasant possibilities which may save our existence and convey the mind to our lives.

Aires – Naturalismo (2017)

  • Ambient
  • Noise
  • Avant-garde
  • Microtonal
  • Experimentalism
  • Post-industrial
  • Musique concrète
  • Microsound
  • Abstract

Comment: this bunch of three long-running compositions starts off with a scorched noise torrent full of loudness, abrasive and penetrative sonic bits and then it will be farrowing with natural sounds, inverted drones and subtle ambient and faint hiss explorations throughout the course. And then all of that turns back to the beginning with rough brownish sonic masses full of power, life and intensity. One can easily extrapolate to the formula of move between zero and one or between silence and noise. Undoubtedly it is an example of the classical representation of the noise music though for the sake of more overwhelming provoking mindset some stoned, absurd, and freaked-out seeds would have been added to the mix (or actually not – I am being partially under the extravagant influence of Big City Orchestra at the moment). Aires is the project of Portuguese Vitor Bruno Pereia and the outing is a bit in the discography of Colectivo Casa Amarela.

Gallo 84 – Shimano (2018)

  • Ambient
  • Soundscape
  • Avant-garde
  • Microtonal
  • Experimentalism
  • Minimalism
  • Microtonal

Comment: by seeing the name Gallo 84 it brought to my mind German krautrock giant Neu!. The Teutonic duo similarly liked to employ numbers and one of their most well-known tracks was being known as Hallogallo. Additionally some Neu!'s endeavours in music are considered as first steps towards ambient music. This 4-notch issue being released on a Portuguese imprint, Colectivo Casa Amarela is also about very broad and frequently bright and serene soundscapes. Furthermore, its gravity point and orbital trace used to be quite similar in comparison with Neu!. However, it is predominantly devoid of rhythms by moving on and making sense by shifting plateaus with different tonality and pulsation frequencies and aligned with different distances. Above all, one is a great rock combo and the other is an outstanding ambient ray. I like the profound intensity and the dynamic interplay between those brighter and darker sonic layers and a new perceivable quality as the synthesis of the layers growing out from within there. It is like a spirited sonic whole by emitting holistic impulses from its very profound core. Superb work by any means.
