Comment: these 53 minutes and 4 compositions are “dedicated” to nuclear accidents in the atomic energy plants around the world. More profoundly, at Lucens (1969), Chernobyl (1986), Kyshtym (1957), Three Mile Island (1979), and most recently at Fukushima Daiichi (2011). These are probably the most remarkable ones though smaller accidents may have been happening. Shit happens if people are doing things even if these processes are indispensable because of the mooch of the human induced economy is going to move on without possibility getting to decelerate the process. I do not think of it the nuclear reactors must be shut down just measures to avoid such sort of disasters should be even more enhanced and possible deviations to be foreseen. However, musically I tagged it as an instance of post-industrial music among the other classifications. Furthermore, one can figure it out in a very straight way. The music over there is to depict industrialized scenes being abandoned by human beings. Besides having gotten informed factually and chronologically about these highly clutch and events the audible result is staggering – lots of memory loaded hisses and glitches, arousing sonic effects, concrete music drenched glimpses, metallic drones at times being variegated with orchestrations and less abrasive electronics. These 53 minutes is a subtle play with shades between darkness and lightness, between a burden and redemptive freeing. The adverse effects are adeptly converted into a state of art. The issue is a part of the discography of Murmure Intemporel. Behind the nom de plume is Jean-Luc Hervé Berthelot, a prolific artist within the netlabel scene for many years.

Mmöner – Training Saga (2017)

  • Electronic music
  • Fantasy music
  • Mood music
  • Alternative
  • Primitive music
  • Avant-garde

Comment: the mystical creature named Mmöner is back with his/her sophomore outing called Training Saga. The artist describes it as old stuff about training skills. Because of that it can be admitted ideologically he/she has stepped out of the forest theme (Forest Eruption, 2016) to put the finger into a sport/training theme. Instead of glorifying and mystifying the forest as our very genuine home the new subject is remarkably more human-related and mundane, even dealing with obvious banalities (though I guess it is imbued with a tongue-in-cheek attitude). Yet musically the difference does not make sense because sonically the outings are tightly correlated. Continually you can visualise and thereby think off a kernel of sounds getting inspiration from the fantasy music soundtracks which in turn are mingled with primitive electronic developments and childish rhythmic patterns which eventually will result in the somehow hyper realistic flow of peaky, exalting, saturated chords. As if the set of three tracks being overloaded with a torrent of serotonin and being warped by the fairy-tales surfacing deep from your subconsciousness you had heard that in your childhood. Even if it's formal appearance is to be moody it's deeper intention is to enter into into the listener's brain and provide an immensely complex experience. Fir sure, it is an uncanny listening session at the recent times.

Comment: if I can remember for the right way once there existed such an imprint as Milano, Italy-based Paragrafo Records which was reclaimed as having focus on weird, electronic and experimental music. One of the artists coming out from there was Berlin, Germany-based Mogadiscio Ensemble. Unfortunately almost all the traces behind the imprint are gone (just a couple of issues are uploaded at Bandcamp) though fortunately the combo is up there at Bandcamp to provide an immense set of 38 tracks. The amount of the compositions is big enough to write a solid column about it. First of all, it is huge enough to get enough material to feed your ears and brain. More profoundly, the average track within it is quite short of being approximately 2-3 minute long and containing a shitloads of diverse ideas. From old school industrial synthesised layers and rough yet vivid rhythms, deliberately clogged-up progressions of the lo-fi and DIY culture, appealing outsider house numbers, off-kilter, outsider jazz induced developments. It may resemble a bit an early Cabaret Voltaire which had provided different impulses and ideas on industrial and post-punk to further progress into a wider audience appealed compartment, more profoundly to trod seminally on dance music, post-disco, proto-house music. At times it chimes as if being channelized through some shitty filters and cables. Yet the result, however, is very elegant. On the other side, the title does have a clear hint at Aphex Twin`s Selected Ambient Works 85-92 which similarly did provide an episodic coincidence with the ambient style. In fact, there is no classical ambient structures within that whole, there are up only some fragments of reminding of the style. However, there may be behind a methodology of deconstructing the style. Anyhow the result is a top predator.

Mirth Naarc – FX (2016)

  • Electronic music
  • Alternative dance
  • Urban music
  • Electro
  • Hip-hop
  • Glitch-hop

Comment: this handful of tracks is created by Martinas Rakshtinas aka Martin Rach, a prolific and talented artist from Lithuania. Mirth Naarc is one of the projects of him and this album of 22 minutes is tagged by him as techno, dance, and abstract hip-hop. More profoundly, spiky incisive drumming is tightly mixed up with an electro matter if to describe it in a gross way. Yet stylistically it is a case of contemporary hip-hop music where digitalised technology and a multi-faceted rhythmic approach prevail the course. A lot of different rhythmic shapes which either are followed by each other or used to be superimposed on each other partly. Emotionally its lightheartedness is beguiling because the ultimate impact of it can be quite dystopia-related and therefore depressive. The machines are governing over a human being mercilessly. Without any emotion, without any discrimination. The issue is released on Folksoundomy, and Free Music Archive.

Malicious Wonderland – Wasteland (2017)

  • Electronic music
  • Leftfield
  • Post-industrial
  • Drone
  • Avant-garde
  • Experimentalism
  • Industrial techno

Comment: since reading the artist's name and the title of the album I got aware of a possibility that wonderland can be malicious and the scene of the play can be performed in the middle of the wasteland. Indeed, it is a serious play with blackened, ill-omened soundscapes and varied rhythms where austere, rusty noises are amplified to an extent where the changes in the quantity used to redound in the quality. In a word, post apocalyptic metallic shrieks and steely lurking and iteratively emitting diabolical orchestrations do constitute the predominant layer within the 12-notch course. By exploring the discography you can see the artist is inclined to focus on darkened, murky themes like dystopia, and darkness veiled within our hearts. Behind the project is the same artist who is being known as Reflections From Nowhere.

Lezet – Intimate (2017)

  • Electronic music
  • Improvised music
  • Alternative
  • Primitive music

Comment: I am quite stricken of how and at which degree Igor Jovanovic decided to change his mind and path in comparison to his previous outing Aether (2016, Kermesse). He abandoned his way of previously walking along modern classical, drone, chamber music pieces to recently provide something which can be described as if slow burning in improvised music on a helium-filled keyboard which sounds due to relentless tooting quite similarly to a treated bagpipe. It seems to be so primitive and gawky it will make fun to a listener. Is it the music of the free jazz musician who lost the gravity? May it be way too intimate being only understandable to the composer only? The only exception in the row of short-running compositions is Teeth wherein one can hear remarkably cranked-up sound yet the formula is analogous. This 7-notch outing is a bit in the discography of Etched Traumas.

Comment: if to compare this 7-notch outing to H Stewart`s Letter to Kansas City (2011, Folksoundomy) being commented yesterday at RMH one can find out some gross similarities. First of all, it involves chords induced by a keyboard and this in turn is being wrapped up by austere, glitched-out noise clouds wiggling and wobbling like an outing by a rabid composer of having gotten back his/her inspiration recently and now he/she is very enthusiastic to flood a track with a bunch of different bits and methods. Gaga over. Lady Gaga over? No, it is a different, more subtle story with regard to the superstar. On the other side, if Letter to Kansas City can be considered the songwriter album of H Stewart so far then Hybrid does not provide focus on lyrics. There is up one track which chimes like a record from a nightmarish comedy session being backed up by gruesome electronic music and at times there are up some snippets of spoken word. However, having your ears to be set on these compositions more closely you can feel true richness of the album. Furthermore, this album is to set different parts against each other thereby establishing a dynamic contrast. Calmness and silence created through the aforementioned piano and clavichord chords and pulsating, piercing droning, intense electronic bubbling and torrents of modest white noise on the other side are adeptly juxtaposed. However, at Inner Voices one can surprisingly perceive of how those intense signals can be emotive and gentle in a way. In a nutshell, listen to it and get wowed away with it. That's invigorating and exalting. The outing is a part of the Chicago, Illinois,US-based imprint Pan Y Rosas Discos. Isabel Nogueira is a female musicologist-artist from Porto Alegre, Brazil whose music can be compared with the likes of Big City Orchestra, Maja Ratkje, Laurie Anderson, Zoviet France.

Comment: this handful of pieces are composed by an American artist, H Stewart and released by an imprint, Folksoundomy. She is being known as vowel, sound poetry artist dwelling deep in the avant-garde/experimental music scene first of all. This time she releases her emotions and memories. Indeed, you can partake of those flickering sparse undulations being tapped out on a cheap Casio keyboard and being surrounded by austere sonic effects coming out from a laptop. The result is impressive in its heartbreaking longing and ennobling soul pain showcasing H Stewart is also a solid singer if needed. Indeed, the strength of the outing is that her intimate incantations are delicately stripped down and addressed because of that showing up its inner magic and power. This is music I would like to listen to during late and lonely hours.

Comment: Marco Cervellin`s set of 8 compositions is a fairly corroborant flow of pastel-alike string chords and synthetic glimpses and hovering orchestrations which have been presented either in a linear way or in a iterative way. Both ways are to make sense while making difference from each other. He has been producing his music in the Italian countryside because of that I guess the result is so organic and picturesque and cinematic. On the other side, behind him is an immense experience and wisdom of the Italian history in music and especially in film scores and Italian turn of mind while avoiding to be an excessively sugary outing so let's sum up all of that to ultimately get the recent result. The more I listen to it the more I am losing the stylistic borders of his music which in turn of course, is the sign of universality in his music. There must be that compelling essence to come out from the tracks. You can draw parallels upon the likes of Ennio Morricone, and The Pink Floyd yet Cervellin`s does have its own way to go forward. You will not search for gems for a long time. A cut above.

Comment: by listening to TNKS`s sophomore outing Nostalgic Happiness you may perceive it as if a watered down post-rock issue is put in front of your ears. In fact, the explanation is way too simplistic and little saying to the listener. From these 28 minutes in the set of 7 pieces in total there used to emerge enough elements to tickle your cerebral synapses in a breezy way. Indeed, sun is shining and gentle gusts are stroking your cheeks and dishevel your hair while you are spending your time in the middle of a picturesque meadow in the countryside. Throughout the course you can perceive the intact bucolic feel which of course could closely be related to fairly nostalgic pictures from one`s remote past. These 7 tracks constitute a platform to put off your memories toward the childhood. Toward something you cannot reach anymore because physically we have no possibility to overcome the burden of entropy (if we would get it would we wish it?). Musically and stylistically the album`s touch harks back to the chillwave/glo-fi/hypnagogic movement. Indeed, hypnagogic pop as a stylistic phenomenon is closely bound to falling asleep, dreaming and memories. There are bands up within the style who exploit the corresponding intentions (Memoryhouse, Memory Tapes). Jokingly, The Smiths was obviously a pre-hypnagogic combo due to conveying such tracks as Back to the Old House, This Night Has Opened My Eyes, and Asleep (even if the latter one focused on suicide). Exuberant yet gentle guitar chords used to draw its elliptical lines across the synthetic terrain and IDM-esque crispy beats while being coloured by sublime saxophone beeps and colourful orchestrations at times. By the way, I tagged it as mood music as you can see above but it does not mean it is either somehow simple-minded or "lazy". More profoundly, you can hear easiness in timbre and mood pouring out from the sophisticated instrumental compositions. The wondrous outing is a part of the discography of Sucu Music. Additionally I recommend listen to the debut release Gate One. By kindred souls you should listen to Brother Saturn

Comment: it happens approximately in the mid of 2008 when I discovered more closely then such a great platform as lastfm and mostly due to it I discovered a huge, independently existing sonic world called the webaudio/netlabel scene. Of course, there were up an immense amount of artists who had been existing on their own way. One of the most magnificent artists was The Hirundu from Blackpool, UK; firstly John Crewdson-led combo/or John Crewdson only had been so productive though his tenure as the combo's frontman started off at the end of the 80s, secondly The Hirundu's sound was being so variegated and provoking yet being technically in accomplishment a cut above in comparison to most other combos around. From incisive lo-fi/DIY/post-punk madness to kinda radiophonic and plunderphonics art and broken psychedelia to an idiosyncratic electronic music and stoned dance act which later on evolved into a dark ambient branch. Telemachus, the 12-notch outing is a step further within the discography showing up Johnny Crewdson's ability to create potent ditties. These can freely be entitled pop songs of certainly deserving to be played on respected indie/alternative pop radio shows. Or maybe it is way too radical and unpredictable to be presented through the air because one can feel a tongue in cheek attitude in these wonky pop songs. However, it is a part of the credibility of the Hirundu we used to adore and jealously defend for because of being a hallmark of our own strong identity. On the other hand, I have had no time and wish to listen to The Fall's last albums for a while because I know what I could expect by MES and it does not cheer me up anymore. What you could get by Johnny Crewdson it is being a cheerful expectation due to a cornucopia of seminal ideas. From murky experimental rock to moody jazz standards to a blissful ambient progression to a funky ska number to a chopped-up yet exuberant electronic/ post-punk to something indecipherable and the description goes on and on. Top tier by any means. Hail to The Hirundu. By the way, Johnny Crewdson has also been a member of another combo, Golf Harris. Pitch And Putt has been the unofficial imprint for The Hirundu's music for all these years.

Comment: I am truly glad to be back at the discography of the Argentina-based record label Abstrakt Reflections of which soaring has been impressive since its starting point. Yesterday I felt myself a bit nauseous with regard to softened values in music today actually I do not. A human being's life is full of contradictions it might be even better not to thoroughly analyse yourself and your doings from one day to another. I can feel this huge bunch of 16 pieces includes some softened elements too though in overall it is the balanced whole of crispy rhythms and spaced-out synthesised orchestrations which will take you far away, bringing you out somewhere there is no place for distress and pain. You are allowed to see a big picture. Indeed, beauty saves the world. There are up enough examples of the kind, for example, Symptomatology. With regard to the title and on the other hand relying on the otherworldly feeling of the outing it can be compared with the doings of such adventurous heroes as Hans Hass, and Jacques Yves Cousteau who had spent much time of their life spans under the water. However, is it either the sound of underwater or Outer Space? I guess the both variations are right because the music over there is thoroughly immersed in divine touch. From highly lofty plateaus to going down into mystical abysses. By listening to this thoroughly balanced and organically multifaceted set you can think of heretical thoughts of having no necessity for music criticism as a phenomenon. Indeed, the words are excessive to convey it. Some tracks are remixed by such producers as Huron, r.roo, and c0ma. Denis VAs is a mastermind and these 49 minutes and 20 seconds constitute a best outing in this year.

Comment: such albums as this one the world needs for now and much more in amount. Aside the vaporwave style nowadays music is way too gentle and dodgy being emotionlessly tapped out on cellphone apps of music making and having little blood and life within its veins. Undoubtedly it is predominated by softened values of the generation of contemporary youth of the so-called snowflakes. We need again the generation of heroes to be arrived at. The veins are meant to be the rhythms of it. Approximately 6-8 years ago there was up a style called witch house/drag house getting inspiration from magic realism, coldwave and synthwave, industrial music, but also darkened hip-hop and trip-hop music of such juggernauts as Tricky, and Massive Attack. With chillwave which had been existing approximately at the same time the style makes sense and provides hope. It was the beginning of a new launch. The South Korean artist's 7-track outing conveys the credibility of the aforementioned elements' best parts. Furthermore, one can hear those damned soft values within the mix being craftily integrated with more glowering and provoking elements. By contemporary artists one can hear the influences of Death Grips sometime. It is like an instance of pop music seeping out from the castle of the Count Dracula. The release is a part of the discography of Elegant Elephant.

Comment: this 4-notch outing by Leipzig, German artist Olliver Wichmann aka Synflict is a classical post-industrial one with slowly progressing sonic terrains being culminated atop with spiky, metallic sparks and hollow echoes and spoken flickers the last of them at a time may be perceived as the playground for sanity and madness to get tightly interacted. By focusing on the titles of the issue you can meet such ones as Unrest, Exhaustion, Flashback, and Void. Each of these compositions used to be truly long yet they constitute a coherent solar system with one another. It does say quite much about the issue. By moving along this path you will be discerning uncanny, strange sounds surely of not coming from your safe and secure world. Additionally, at the foot one can hear sounds being inclined to the so-called Klingklang aesthetic being also closely related to German electronic circles. Besides the predominant electronic manipulation one can partake in guitar induced flows and because of that there are up a bunch of intriguing combinations, mind-provoking interactions to be interrupted by short circuits (read it as incisive sonic effects). On the other side, it is a subtle drift between emotions and the repulsion of them. This disturbingly awesome issue is a part of the discography of an Italian imprint, Nostress.

Simple CUT – Stay (2016)

  • Electro pop
  • Alternative pop
  • Dance pop
  • Remixes
  • Electronic pop
  • Synth pop

Comment: the last two issues of blocSonic being commented on Recent Music Heroes were rap/hip-hop related (Graphic Antics` What Does It Mean?, and Headsnack`s Alternative Facts) but this one being preceded to them is coming from Russia and stylistically it is a blend of synth-pop, indie pop, and electro pop. Of course, what kind of segment is more pre-dominant than other ones it depends on a certain track. Either hovering synthesised orchestrations are backed up by thudding drum beats or the sugary yet earnest lyrics is subjugated to the autotune effect or heavily chopped-up it depends on a certain composition. It is a solid love balladry for a contemporary AOR. Additionally, listen to the project`s other issues as well (In Your Arms, All About You).

Comment: there are up 28 and a half minute which can be considered either a dream or nightmare from very deep of your subconscious mind. Indeed, beautiful compartments in the beginning will get interrupted by varied noises with different timbre, tonality and intensity. Even worse, the borderline between the beauty and ugliness is substantially blurred and thereby being guileful and dangerous for your inviolate mind. And you are going to get even more disturbed and messed up because the crowd noises you arguably cannot stand for in every day's life may sound pretty good in the face of fucked up machine humming and reverberating echoes of harsh steel. While listening to this span I was thinking of how relative all the things around us seem to be though we are seeking to find out absolute truth and things on its own. And how much and how quickly all is changing around us. Pertaining to experimental/avant-garde /electro-acoustic/noise music/improvised music/jazz music within the netlabel scene earlier on it was being headed by Moscow-based imprint Clinical Archives but now as it is being defunct for almost three years it is being led with the same intensity and rush by an imprint from Chicago, Pan Y Rosas Discos. There is no slots just to be let free in the scene.

Cinema Noir – Fernweh (2015)

  • Post-rock
  • Alternative rock
  • Epic
  • Electronic music
  • Indie rock
  • Indietronica
  • Remix

Comment: I am back again at the discography of Nostress Records though it is the first step of mine to Cinema Noir, a combo from Palermo, Sicily, Italy. Allegedly this 6-notch issue is their first step (partly) into electronic music. More profoundly, it includes majestic and blissful progressions through guitar buildups and synthesizer-based clouds, respectively. Indeed, the listener gets wrapped up in hazy, hiss soaked clouds and sublime dynamics of sonic abysses filled in with unknown surreal creatures because it chimes so beautifully and blissfully. Its beatific touch does have a remarkably more tremendous impact in comparison to every day's life. If you get stricken by the Sun then you may experience a similar feel. Frequently it reminds of a Mogwai's turn into electronic music (at Happy Songs for Happy People) though Cinema Noir's turn seems to be more overwhelming and crucial both mentally and physically. For example, listen to a track called Miles Davis, the most irresistible composition over there. You can hear many themes and progressions of running simultaneously in one and the same track. At Persepolis the music turns into something to get its power from the roots of minimalism. It chimes as if a post-rock track being produced by Steve Reich. There is up one track being remixed by another Italian combo Veivecura. In a nutshell, it is a sonic leviathan which must be heard.
