Jorge Grela – Expande (2016)

  • Ambient
  • Musique concrète
  • Electronic music
  • Alternative
  • Field recordings
  • Glitchtronica
  • Avant-garde
  • Soundscapes
  • Experimentalism

Comment: it is nice to be back again at the discography of the Chilean imprint Pueblo Nuevo. The artist comes out from the capital of a neighbouring country, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Jorge Grela (born in 1970) provides a set of 19 minutes where one can perceive emotions filled noises, wobbly soundscapes, catchy glitches, and bouncy sound effects. In a word, let's call it emotive ambient music. The result may not have been so appealing without exploiting recorded sounds from the streets and from nature. Thanks to it the soundscape seems to be fairly expansive and broad and made open. Here it is being sophisticated and exuberant. One is the effect of another. Stunning stuff.

Luis Marte – Routier (2016)

  • Alternative dance
  • Club dance
  • Kraut-techno
  • Techno pop
  • Tech-electro
  • IDM
  • Avant-techno
  • Experimental techno
  • Motorik
  • Micronoise
  • Glitch techno

Comment: one part of the rhythmic sort of music has been related to the depiction of speed and driving across the highway and staring at the dotted line. For instance, it was so by Kraftwerk, and Neu!. Argentinian Luis Marte's Routier is a successor of this glorious motorik rock/krautrock-esque tradition though doing it in a techno-based and IDM format (at Grenade, and Not Find Another Like one can hear very Kraftwerk-esque whistling bleeps wandering throughout the pieces). On the other side, it is hard to estimate do come there influences either directly or not. It might be these ones come through the neo-krautrock and IDM and clicks and cuts and glitch scene, i.e therefore indirectly (being presumably influenced by such artists as Seefeel, Jan Jelinek, Mark Van Hoen's projects, Autechre, Mouse On Mars, Kreidler, To Rococo Rot). More profoundly, the artist is obsessive at lying around beats and humming sounds and elegant noises thereby creating the impact of watching the panorama while driving into the sunset. Furthermore, these rhythms could freely create a soundtrack for road movies (Vanishing Point, for instance; just remember astounding Primal Scream's album of same title being influenced by a cult motion picture). All in all, it is a beautiful (techno) outing by analysing it from different points of a space. It is a bit of the discography of a Chilean imprint, Pueblo Nuevo.

Francisco Pinto – Boo Boo (2008)

  • Indietronica
  • Alternative pop
  • Indie pop
  • Electro pop
  • Shoegazetronica
  • Electronic pop
  • Synth rock
  • Dream pop
  • Electro-indie
  • Synth pop
  • Acid pop

Comment: let’s continue to make acquaintance with the discography of the Chilean imprint Pueblo Nuevo. Recently I commented on a quite brand new one, Guerra & Rammsy`s Torque EP from the year of 2016 of which core was concentrated on a house vibe with hints at electro and techno. Francisco Pinto`s magnum opus, 19-track originates from the year of 2008 and is a different case because of apparently loving poppy electronic music and indie evenly. Indeed, it is a sublime drift between shimmery guitars in the vein of dream pop and shoegaze on occasion, acidic keyboards and drum machine-led rigid yet catchy beats. For instance, listen to Metropolis, one of the most catchy composition within the whole. The same could be said about URL. However, the whole album is filled with ditties arousing your senses and sensations. Maldita Marisol is a bold electro pop example with rollicking yet intense synthesizers. El Arco de las Cosas starts off with sublime Cocteau Twins-esque loops and reverberations. In a word, it is a great issue and could freely be used as a visit card to get acquainted with the Chilean indie music. It is not a surprising fact altogether the southern hemisphere of American continent has also been a prolific terrain for new and intriguing guitar-based crossovers for a while.

Guerra & Rammsy – Torque EP (2016)

  • Electro-house
  • Alternative dance
  • Tech-house
  • Club dance

Comment: this 3-track EP clocking in at a 20 minute is a dynamic example coming out from the umbrella of Pueblo Nuevo. Indeed, stylistically it is a carnival of house music with nibbles at techno and electro vibes. The technical sides of it are variegated with more loose flickers and colourful quivers which used to expand and contract effectively thereof freeing its way for more emotional appearances. In a word, the debut issue by the collaboration of the Chilean Álvaro Guerra, and Rodrigo Rammsy is an enjoyable statement.

F600 - At Home Like a Tourist (2011)

/Robot pop, Club dance, Electro pop, Dubstep, Alternative dance, Ambient techno, Dub-techno/

Comment: The Chilean musician Miguel Conejeros` 10-notch issue reveals many different facets and angles regarding contemporary electronic and rhythm centred music. There are represented electro and dub threads with often hints at robotic aesthetics. The release does involve many exciting stylistic combinations, rhythmic vibes, profound echoes coming from the nexus, blissful synth hovers and poignant sonic effects atop. In a word, it can say the album may have the placebo effect for your body and soul. Highly recommended.

Lars From Mars – Life On Mars (2009)

/Experimental electronica, Glitchtronica, Avant-electronica/

Comment: Lars From Mars` music merges a modern approach of electronica with an old, though, vanguard one. At times it sounds like a dada-alike one because of providing heavily manipulated results being thoroughly chopped and cut up or pitched up to a degree of showcasing a sense of humour an even absurd. The soundscape is relatively straightforward and easy to follow – these elements do not clash and splash against one another, however, the whole is quite intense nevertheless. It involves a lot of sonic elements – from the aforementioned cuts and glitched-out noises to compelling bleeps, epic interferences and mutant sonic bits. Obviously for Mars habitants this outlet would be a fine pop album.
