Rangers - Homemade Cassette Collages II (2008)
9.6
/Lo-fi, Shoegaze, Improvised music, Psych-rock, Drone rock, DIY, Space rock, Avant-garde, Psychedelic, Experimental rock, Alternative/
Comment: the Dallasite Joe Knight aka Rangers` a pair of lengthy tracks does reflect exactly upon the emergence of a huge array of the tape labels worldwide in recent years. The particular issue is composed of spaced-out guitar progressions, smoky synth motions and change-overs, and loosely shuffling drum sequences which in general are channelized into exhausting shamanic droning which in turn strikes with the invigorating punch. Furthermore, the listener can perceive both the timeless influences of Ariel Pink, and R Stevie Moore, and more peripheral sonic shamanists and demented folkers and shoegazers (Glenn Branca, the minimalists, The Silver Apples, A Beautiful Machine, Ducktails, Lee Noble, Jackie-O Motherfucker, for instance). In a nutshell, it is a boisterous, and dizzy envelope which provides a way of how ideal pop should sound.
Bagpipe Whiskey - Asparagus Puppy EP (2009)
9.0
/Folktronica, Breaks, Psychedelic, Acid pop, Electronic pop, Sampledelic, Sound collage/
Comment: Bagpipe Whiskey is the one-man-project by Benjamin Mason from Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK whose issues are being related to such imprints as Kift Flipper, and Parallax Sounds to date. This set of 4 tracks (spreaded out over 17 minutes) is a dizzy compound of chopped beats, and organic sounds where lofty electronica and synthesized psychedelic slabs and more or less acoustic ascensions (and intense scratch units now and then) are merged with pleasing motives and uplifting harmonies. There may be drawn parallels upon the likes of Four Tet, Monokle, ChromaData, DJ Shadow. By the way, the release was published on the 31st October (the Halloween day).

Azoora - A Thousand Ways EP (2012)
9.3
/Psychedelic, Alternative, Cosmic fusion, Alternative dance, Krautrock, Indie, Space rock/
Comment: Azoora can be considered a domestic group within the list of 23 Seconds, Gothenburg, the Sweden-based records being in action since 2006. These 6 tracks used to emerge out from a sublime blend of hirsute psychedelia, bucolic guitar strumming, exulting motorik rock propulsions, gloomy synth bubbling and suggestive spacey reverberations. Inspite of the balanced quality and related links between the tracks the favourite notch of mine is Keep On Running, which includes hidden captivating layers to go in the subconsciousness of the listener. Therefore the quartet`s aesthetical approach can be compared with the ones of other British groups such as Clinker, and The Womb, for instance. In a word, keep on listening to it. You will get drowned in it at a certain moment.
