Kinskop - Home Folder (2010)

9.1

/Post-rock, Remixes, Indietronica, Art pop, Ambient pop, Downtempo, DIY/

Comment: at the first sight this batch of tracks  seems to composed of ragged-edged rhythms which is mixed up with lo-fi/DIY attitude and electro-acoustic tendencies in a loos way. However, by listening to it onward the result can be considered a charmingly flawed vision being spotted upon the realm of post-rock/chamber rock and indietronic horizons where wiry yet bewitching guitar chords are interlaced with lush concrete sounds and sometimes more ambient/and downtempo-related progressions (in a remix track, entitled Carwindow Creatures by Vertical67).

Eleanor Friedberger - Epitonic saki Session (2011)

8.8

/Alternative rock, Singer-songwriter, Live session/

Comment: Eleanor Friedberger (born in 1976) is one half of a famous family duo, called The Fiery Furnaces. who this time provide her 7-track set within the frame of Epitonic saki Sessions. In comparison to the aesthetics of her parental group EF`s sound is more simplistic - it is without orchestrated bores, sonic tricks and sound effects and conceptual frameworks. In a word, she is a singer-songwriter now. Nevertheless her songs are poignant, dashing and tumultuous. And by its lyrics it includes the hint at Soft Machine, the legendary art/avant-rock band coming out of the so-called Canterbury Scene.

Coma Cinema - Stoned Alone (2010)

8.0

/Indie rock, Chamber pop, Singer-songwriter, Lo-fi, Alternative pop/

Comment: Coma Cinema is the solo project by Mat Cothran whose 13-track album involves indie rock facades which are spiced up with some lo-fi tendencies and chamber pop glimpses. In a word, it is a nice listening, though, he undoubtedly has produced some more persuasive albums (Blue Suicide; Baby Prayers).

Chimney Fish - Tribal Lace (2009)

8.8

/Ethereal pop, Minimalism, Post pop, Avant-pop, Dream pop/

Comment: Chimney Fish is the one-woman-project of Annie Culver  whose album Tribal Lace used to rotate around fragile "singing" which in fact is subjected to vowel effects surrounded with thick hiss carcasses, however, chiming like a tribute issue to the sirens, who in imagery used to be mystical creatures with seductive singing. Suggestive and otherworldly. By thinking of kindred souls there can be drawn parallels upon the likes of Elisabeth Fraser, Iron Like Nylon, Niobe, Meredith Monk, H Stewart.

Ludwig Maravilla - Dentro del Vientre de la Bestia (2012)

9.0

/Experimental electronica, Crossover, 8-bit, Glo-fi, Chiptune, Chillwave, Indie, Breakcore, Avant-garde/

Comment: this 14-track album originates from Mexico, Mexico which takes on refined electronica which in turn are backdropped with different stylistical touches. Indeed, it involves the elements of fascinating noise, glimmering indie and chillwave, hirsute chiptune and breakcore-esque beats. Now and then Ludwig Maravilla has no hesitation to anguish up with thudding bass lines and to calm down with uplifting bubblegum disco beats and world music-infiltrated turns.
