Milky Way Wishes: A Kirby Super Star Tribute (2013)

/Chiptune, 8-bit, Chipbreak, Brass pop, Crossover, Urban music, Alternative pop, Poptronica, Tracker music, Metal, Conceptual, Nintendocore, Electronic pop/

Comment: Ocremix.org is a site for music activists and artists who are being enthusiastic for searching and creating with regard to the videogame music. This time a bunch of artists who have created 23 compositions are being keen to pay tribute to such men as Dan Miyakawa, and Jun Ishikawa who created a game called “Kirby Super Star”. However, do not make adverse opinions about the issue because that hint does not mean this tremendous mixed bag involves 8-bit/chiptune/chipbreak progressions only. There are also up enthralling guitar driven and orchestrated (with or without brass sections) opuses with obviously different sound quality rates. For instance, Sixto Sounds exploits punchy metal drums, powerful guitar riffs and overwhelming orchestrations with a hint at mariachi music. PrototypeRaptor reveals his preferences in the vein of hip-hop, soul, and R`n`B music, of course, set out in his own terms. By going on, gentle melodies and light-hearted, volatile motives are also represented over there to spawn good sentiments and touching sensations for you. In fact, the release is a tickling quest for the listener to rediscover new undercurrents, sonic plateaus and highlands and densely crossed styles being still possible to be dug out from some compartments of pop music. There are represented such musicians as halc, Insert Rupee, Geoffrey Taucer, Usa; PROTO-DOME, Ergosonic, Sir NutS, Brandon Strader, Hylian Lemon, Mazedude, Benjamin Briggs, OverCoat, Monobrow, OverCoat, Sixto SoundsPrototypeRaptor, The OverClocked Plaid Muffins. Few tracks are composed in collaboration between some of the aforementioned artists. In a nutshell, let`s listen to this smorgasbord of two discs and find out your cup of tea.

OverClocked ReMix - Super Mario 64: Portrait of a Plumber (2014)

/Chiptune, 8-bit, EDM, Remixes, Alternative rock, Fusion, Nintendocore, Mood music, Chipbreak/'

Comment: this 21-track miscellany involves many artists with disparate approaches/remixes ranging from orthodox 8-bit/tracker/nintendocore music templates to more moody and orchestrated progressions and organ driven jazz rock/fusion excursions, bouncy electronic dance music, cloudless film score induced compositions and even majestic guitar-based rock music. I guess this might be a sort of challenging sonorous smorgasbord for any plumber who is prone to take hold of more pretentious music rather than listening to this one which mostly come from the adult-oriented radio stations. More profoundly, eventually this creates the feeling you can perceive after an incisive rain torrent and at the time of the generation of a rainbow arch across the clouds. On these two discs are represented such artists as halc, Nutritious, Sole Signal, Tuberz McGee, Scaredsim, Brandon Strader, The Coop, prophetik, Fishy, Fratto, Mikeaudio, Argle, Sir Jordanius, Theory of N, G-Mixer, Electric Concerto,

Legacy: 25th Anniversary Game Boy (2014)

/Chiptune, Mood music, Alternative pop, Conceptual, Electronic pop, Metal/

Comment: this compilation involves 15 tracks dedicated to GB games. Stylistically the whole is mottled extending from brisk indie pop progressions and catchy electro pop propulsions to South Asia inspired quasi ethnic music hovers, New Age/pop classical extensions and acute metal riff laden compositions. In any cases, despite different rhythm expressions most of these pieces seem to be subjected to the same motive. It is quite surprising that chiptune/tracker music numbers are represented so austerely. There are represented such artists as The GuitahHeroe, urdailywater, Malcos, Rexy, DusK, Hylian Lemon, Sir_nutS, Argle, timaeus222, Bluelighter, Brandon Strader, HelicopterKnife Fight, Eino Keskitalo, Tuberz McGee, Chernabogue. In a nutshell, the result is moody and worth to be picked up.

George R. Powell - Legend of Zelda_Majora's Mask: Then the Healing Came OC ReMix (2014)

/Neoclassical, Soundtrack, Epic, Remix, Alternative, Game music/

Comment: these 200 seconds are fabulous ones – full of epic, film score-alike ascensions, sublime expansions and delicately murky glides. The remix comes out of such site as OcreMix which main topic is dedicated to chiptune/tracker music though this time the progressions used to be very far away from the style. The tracks` style reminds me of another American Nicholas Kirk`s handwriting who has been closely related to Whitestone Motion Pictures.  The Ninendo game`s original music was created by Koji Kondo, and Toru Minegishi.
