ÆTHER GENERATOR – GHETTO PLASMA BLASTER (2014)

/Experimental electronica, Abstract, Minimal dub, Avant-garde, Kraut-techno, Drone, Microtonal/

Comment: I do not know what exactly does it mean “ghetto plasma blaster” regarding its functionality and purpose. However, musically it is an impressive set of 10 tracks composed of droning noises, low bass frequencies, bass-heavy rhythms and spaced-out electronic chaos often amplified by dub music-like reverberations and echoes bringing forth some very deep sound layers from the bottom. These elements constitute different combinations within the compartment of electronic music. At times there are up more light-hearted moods supported by glockenspiel chords (888 Stone Steps To The Top). Barry Leaman and Steve Meltzer have done good job because all the aforementioned elements are craftily interwoven with each other and thereby providing no gaps for boredom and nonsense. Although the issue has been released in 2014 it could have been a part of emerging electronic music scene for some decades ago due to its timeless touch and dexterity and unconnectedness to human related aspects. The release is a piece of the discography of an interesting and diverse music label, called 2419 Record Label.

MC Melodee - Crunch Time EP (2014)

/Hip-hop, Urban music, Rap, Soul-hop, Nu jazz, Gangsta rap/

Comment: my first impression about this handful of tracks was not very enthusiastic because all of that seemed to be way too straightforward and simplified regarding the production and configuration. Actually it was a quite unusual experience to listen to gangsta-inflected music dominated by a female musician from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. However, this bunch needs more listening times to open up its nature and surface its merits. The listener can discern sublime soul and jazz music debris below the rhymes and chants fattening up your soul and mind. MC Melodee is helped by the likes of Cookin`Soul, Robbie Anthem, Feliciana and D-Luzion, BuddahSPK, Brady James, and Like of Pac Div).

Post Human Era – Help, I Invented The Internet (2012)

/Electro-indie, Alternative pop, Poptronica, Epic, Art pop, Indie pop, Remix, Americana/

Comment: Daniel and Michael Finfer aka Post Human Era`s 7-track/12-track issue embarks on catchy yet sublime, even epic melody and harmony progressions at Supplies which will continue in next compositions in a similar way. More profoundly, it is the electro-indie/pop issue with bold Americana influences ultimately surfacing the talent of the Finfers. Great singing and arrangements behind it are set to establish the overwhelming punch. Maybe you will find out some similarities with such Americana and experimental pop/rock moulded artists as Magnetic Fields, Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, and His Name Is Alive, however, the members of Post Human Era used to bring forth their own idiosyncratic concept and vision. The album will be finished off by a remix version of Glowbug about Building The Machine. The issue is a part of the legendary Moscow-based cult label Clinical Archives (I am still waiting for new issues under the imprint). I recommend listen to other issues by the combo and its related acts as Ancient Lasers, and Glowbug.

Benjamin Dauer & Specta Ciera - Traced in Sand (2014)

/Ambient, Soundscape, Abstract, Modern classical, Experimental electronica, Crossover/

Comment: Traced in Sand is a collaborative issue between Benjamin Dauer, and Devin Underwood aka Specta Ciera. The most general adjective which could be ascribed to the issue is deep. More profoundly, these six tracks used to converge at a crossroad of ambient, classical, experimental electronica, glitched-out minimal rhythms and more tectonic, dub music-alike overthrows, however, being tightly interwoven with one another frequently. On the other side, which is deep it might also be picturesque and arousing – Dauer, and Underwood did it. The finishing track Over the Coastline chimes like a borderline between more abstract, hyper-realistic and recognized sounds, however, presenting barely audible sonic effects throughout the course. The launching track Ice Train depicts a post-apocalyptic world saturated with radioactive vapour and bleak terrains. Indeed, these are good examples about minimally tonal yet highly emotive electronic music. In overall, it is like your own life where exciting moments used to happen to force back general ennui and drabness. The issue is a part of the discography of Glaswgow-based imprint Distance Recordings.
