Comment: this Brisbane, Australia-based sophisticated issue is an instance of contemporary indie music though 10 years ago it would have been named either as experimental electronica or avant-whatever. However, it does not mean that such categorizations would be wrong. The point is all around us has changed remarkably due to such artists as Tortoise, Radiohead, Stereolab, Animal Collective, Beirut, Ariel Pink, and Panda Bear who have brought many vanguard ideas to the surface to poison the mainstream indie music. Indeed, it must have been a human language because otherwise there would have been no hope at all. In other cases, we would have been drowned in highly decayed music being denoted with the meaningless alternative pop/rock definition. More profoundly, at I Wanna Understand the artist mixes up dubstep frequencies with chill-out jazz jitters. Weird Weather is more about an exalting indie folk/rock number. This bundle of 5 tracks starts off with a broken-down, shrill, warped melody in the self-titled track and in this way coming to the next track Street Noise which is an exquisite, dreamy folk and indie pop mixed appearance with epic peaks. The following composition You Know Who also proves the fact the artist is very expert at composing sublime progressions which used to overwhelm your senses and heart. The result is a self-assured, accomplished issue with beatific climactic points in melodies, harmonies and compositions in overall. The outing is a part of the discography ofan excellent Australian label Wood And Wire.

Elbee – Visions Of Vactrols (2014)

/Downtempo, Experimental electronica, IDM, Sampledelic, Experimental techno/

Comment: Lloyd Barrett aka Elbee reveals his craftiness to scan different sonic pallettes and realms. Actually it is quite puzzling to find out the word to describe this dizzying whole. More concretely, it is replete with an innumerable amount of twists and dodges – from world music and New Age inspired breezes to more dark hued electro and alien-like breakbeat outfits, from cerebral yet catchy techno propulsions to compelling electronic appearances. At times the cadence is deliberately downshifted to create even more confusing, spaced-out feeling. However, the issue will be finished off with The Indexilarm Dimension which chimes like a modern classical piece created by the cyborgs. In a word, it is a great work released on Wood & Wire.

Mudlark – Zimdahl (2014)

/Math rock, Art rock, Epic, Avant-rock, Experimental rock, Post-rock, No Wave/

Comment: Wood And Wire is a fine Australian label whose catalogue is a part of those labels thought for distribution of cutting edge music produced on the Green Continent. Mudlark is a fine example of how merge avant-garde tendencies with math rock and post-rock bottoms in an organic way. More concretely, Zimdahl encompasses lots of majestic overdrives embellished with hi-hat sounds, clockwork-alike and electronic effects, repetitive sonic patterns and angular yet delay-enriched guitar chords and there are up many interactions between guitars and rhythm sections. Undoubtedly such kind of music does have more similar characteristics with academic circles than pop-oriented guitar pop bands. Still it sounds somewhat poppy in a strange and otherworldly way (similarly to Mice Parade, for instance).  It is truly artsy and marvellous created for the listener`s sake who likes music. In a word, it is a very mature work with a lot of depth.
