Noisefever – Love EP (2018)

  • Synth-pop
  • Electro pop
  • Electronic pop
  • Tracker music
  • Dance pop
  • Alternative dance
  • 8-bit

Comment: just discovered someone has tagged this 4-track outing with such cute labels as idiots music, noise, and stupid. What else could I assume but stick your arse with your stupidity. There must have been a serious brain damage to push such shit out of mouth. The first chords of 8-bit/tracker music/chiptune lead off these 19 minutes which later will be involved in catchy and exuberant dance-appealed beats full of key changes, varied rhythmic folds and delightful melodies. From one channel to be pushed over to the other one in an enchanting way. The Germany-based artist`s issue is a part of the discography of the Finnish Kahvi Collective.

Circa State – Homegrown (2017)

  • Ambient pop
  • Chilltronica
  • Poptronica
  • Electronic pop
  • Mood music
  • Post-IDM

Comment: first of all, this 8-notch outing's purpose seems to be arouse one's emotions and sensations. Furthermore, Circa State's purpose is not only arouse emotions and sensations but also create them in the listener's head. However, it can be considered philosophical dispute with regard to the question of which our sensations consist of? And which is the genuine base of them? By stylistic side I would like to prefer the pigeonhole “post-IDM” with regard to its emotional and technical edge. As I have already said it is very moody music and it employs certain sounds from the genuine IDM to foster the soundcape. Those gentle bubble-alike synthesised progressions, acidic microgrooves and atmospheric layers atop are intended to provide an enchanting emotive accompaniment. The more I listen to it the more it will grow on me. Grower. Homegrower. Paradoxically or not, such sort of music does not allow describe itself with many words. Because of that, in a word, just listen to it and enjoy the vibe of it. The decent release is a part of the discography of the Finnish Kahvi Collective.

MigloJe – Perception (2017)

  • Ambient drone
  • Microtonal
  • Microsound
  • Minimalism
  • Experimentalism
  • Avant-garde
  • Abstract
  • Dark ambient
  • Leftfield
  • Micronoise

Comment: it is said very exactly at the site of Kahvi Collective that the Lithuanian artist MigloJe is the master of drone in the discography of the imprint. Indeed, Perception is certainly a disparate case if to compare it to other issues I have heard so far. It avoids merry beats, easier synthesised progressions and picturesque compositions, it is being deliberately reserved and sealed in minimal droning and dark ambient aesthetic while arousing the listener's perceptions nevertheless. The structure of compositions used to grow slowly and stepwise. At times the aesthetic of droning is painted with loaded electricity and a wisp of more white coloured (orchestrated) overflows and some electronic effects, glitches, vague clicks and beeps and barely audible rhythms. Less is more and it will be approved eventually. As Malcolm Mooney of CAN once chirped in the beginning of the 70s that silence is an invisible conversation. It is a sublime drift between almost silence and sub-noise/microscopic noise. Of course, you shall have to add your perceptible appearances tightly correlating with them to the whole as well. It is an essential part of the perception. It may be a soundtrack for your nightmares. Highly appreciated in the perception of mine. Take enough time and silence to perceive it accurately. I guess in Lithuanian the title is as Suvokimas

Voyager - Another Wonder (2012)

/Electronic music, Downtempo, Kosmische Musik, Psybient, Ambient trance/

Comment: Justin Scott Dixon aka Voyager`s music is a drift along with oneiric synth propulsions and moody atmospheres. The pace is determined by trance, big beat and tekno drenched rhythms. At times electronic instruments are accomplished with natural drums and samples thereby broadening the palette of this 11-track release. Indeed, it is a trip with subtle elements waiting to be discovered. And the cover print is mesmerizing to connect with the sonic aesthetics over there. The issue is released by Kahvi Records, a prolific record label. Furthermore, if you like music being issued on Ektoplazm, this album is thought for you.

Younnat - Radiovision (2008)

/Psychedelic, Easy listening, Chillout, Sampledelic, Electronic pop, Electro-rock, Poptronica/

Comment: Radiovision is the sophomore issue by the Ukrainian artist Oleg Serdyuk who used to fuse diverse intersections and sonic influences on the album. However, this can be considered a classic one which is compiled of catchy bubblegum-ish rhythms, reed organs, sythesized loops, all in all, making hugely mood and perception. Serdyuk uses to exploit hiss samples of Manu Chao`s radio tuning, Solovyov-Sedoi`s classic Moscow Nights, and the Latvian electro-disco rock legends Zodiac (indeed, which awaits to be more discovered by the Western block people) which at its most frenzied moments resembles of Messer für Frau Müller. An intrinsic beauty which suggests Radiovision is much better than Eurovision.

Weldroid Attitude Indicator (Kahvi)

I suppose, there is no question about Tamas Zsiros aka Weldroid`s ability to proof himself as an artistically established musician among the IDM-niks in worldwide. No doubt, his previous releases Stranglehold (2008, Kahvi), and Splines (2010, Soft Phase) has showcased his strength to reach off mesmerizing rhythmic patterns, playing out in abstract cadences at the one time, or keen likely to harmony-based occurences at the second time, or infused versions of the two abovementioned ones at the third time. Yet, it is not a kind of near-softcore IDM appearance, having its flow on a blend of motorik gears and electro-esque blurbing of the robot-alikeness in the style of Autechre or Dopplereffekt, respectively. In a word, based upon a sheer cutting edge conception.

However, the Hungarian`s third release (15 tracks within approximately 80 minutes) under the legendary Kahvi Collective seems to be more outstripping vis à vis with the two previous issues. Aside every kind of obligatory nucleus-based angular metallic techno beat variations around here you can detect for krautrock-alike Moog-based blurbs in the vein of Tangerine Dream or its members` solo projects (Silicon Man Extraterrestrial), deliciously malicious sonic effects, in-deep-psychedelia-poking-around synth brooding or elemental cosmic layers to overlap and spice up the whole record. One of the best electronic albums of 2010 to date.
